*** T E N L I N E R S *** Written in 1991 & 1992 for AMOS Basic by Glenn N Babic The three ten liners on this disk are "The Mutant Factor" (written in 1991 and published in the AMOS Newsletter, Volume 8), "Pop 'N' Panic" and "Mazed Mouse" (both written in 1992 and published in the Australian Commodore and Amiga Review in the same year). I thought I would submitting them also to the PD Library as they have been fixed of all bugs (only "The Mutant Factor" had any bugs [two, of which both were rather insignificant]) and enhanced (the two newer ten liners are now as perfect as I see possible [I didn't worry about "The Mutant Factor" as it is pretty crap and so not worth optimising]). Also, when "Pop 'N' Panic" was published, the I's and |'s of the font it was printed in were barely distinguishable, so many people may have got "Error in Amal string" messages and not known how to correct them. These ten liners were the first real games I ever wrote. In all of them, a single key press after a game has ended will start another one... "The Mutant Factor" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Scenerio: There has been a sever spill of a dangerous substance in a chemical and biological complex. It is imperitive that the substance is contained, as release into the air, ground or water will cause horrible mutations to the sur- rounding population. The only way to contain it safely is to send in a remote- controlled robot to clean it up. YOU are its operator. Unfortunately, experi- mental laboratory organisms have already mutated and are bent on the robots destruction... Instructions: To completely clean one of the eight laboratories you must col- lect all of the orange chemical spilt amongst the broken canisters. A mere touch will absorb the chemical. However, watch out for the mutant organisms, as they can only be repelled by absorbing one of the larger puddles of chemical: Because your robot fuels itself on the chemical, large amounts increase its strength greatly, scaring off organisms and allowing you to break throught the walls of canisters. This strength rush doesn't last for ever, and as the game progresses it lasts for an increasingly shorter time. Also the time limit must not reach zero, or the chemical begins escaping into the ground and all's lost. "Pop 'N' Panic!" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Scenerio: Mario and Luigi's laundry was long overdue to be washed (no longer could the smell (and the mysterious movement!) from the clothes hamper be ignored!) so Mario reluctantly took the washing down to the basement laundry of their Brooklyn apartment building... After loading up the washing machine with copious amounts of detergent and squashing all the clothes and linen in as well, he switched it on... After a few minutes of shuddering and odd noises, the washing machine exploded and from it spewed forth giant, deadly, soap suds (obviously mutated from the reaction of the excessive detergent and the pungent laundry of the greasy Italians). Now Mario must destroy all the bubbles by throwing his plunger at them (the larger bubbles split into two smaller bubbles when hit, a la Pang) while dodging them by dashing madly about the dark base- ment, jumping from ground to exposed beam and back again. Will he ever cease the relentless flow of giant suds?... Instructions: Simply guide Mario about the scrolling basement with the joystick and press the fire button to throw a plunger up into the air. Each group of four levels has one, two, three and four large bubbles at the beginning - the difficulty between these present as a relatively shorter time limit. You begin the game with four lives (three in reserve). "Mazed Mouse" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Scenerio: Life as a lab mouse is a real drag! Being the subject of hundreds of behavioural experiments is extremely stressing, with the only relief being when a batch of morphine has to be tested (Wow!.. Look at the lovely neon sky and all those paisely horses!..). Besides that, it's a real bummer! Like today for instance, you are being forced by the sadistic scientists to find your way through ten increasingly larger mazes to a wedge of cheese before the time limit runs out. If you succeed, you'll be treated extra specially for your rare, intelligent superiority to the rest of your species. If you fail, it'll be back to being put in strobonomes and injected with female sex hormones for you! Instructions: The controls consist of the UP cursor to move you forward, the LEFT and RIGHT cursors to turn you 90° in the corresponding direction, and the DOWN cursor to destroy a wall directly in front of you (if you have a power punch available and the wall isn't part of the mazes border). Where ever you go you leave a trail of flurescent droppings(!) (caused by all the radiation you've been subjected too in the past!) that mark your way. - Glenn N Babic Reg. #1646
