Minimum Requirements Amiga 500 1 Meg of Memory 1 Floppy Drive Workbench 2.0 or above Some programs will require 1 Meg or more of Memory. I JUST RECEIVED MY DISKS. WHAT SHOULD I DO FIRST? Each package you receive contains your disks and a newsletter. Begin by reading the newsletter. Read through it carefully. Find the programs that interest you. Read the program descriptions, taking special note of the Requirements. I CHOSE A PROGRAM I WOULD LIKE TO REVIEW, WHAT NOW? 1. Once you have found a program, find out which disk it is located on. 2. Boot (turn on) your Amiga with the Workbench in one of the drives. (Hard Drive users with Workbench 2.0 or above just turn on the Amiga.) 3. Once you are at the familiar Desktop, insert the chosen program disk into any disk drive. 4. An Icon will appear on your screen. The Icon will tell you which Volume and Disk # is present in your disk drive. 5. Move your pointer to the Icon and click twice. A window will appear displaying the contents of the disk. Each program on the disk will have its own Drawer. 6. Locate the program drawer and double-click it. Another window will pop up with the program's Icons. 7. With some programs, there may be an Icon that resembles a book that says DOC FILE. Double-click it and read the instructions pertaining to the program. WHAT IF THERE IS NO ICON OR A PROGRAM THAT CAN ONLY BE RUN FROM A SHELL? To get to the Shell, insert your Workbench Disk. 1. Double-click the Workbench Icon and a window will appear with a number of drawers. 2. Double-click the Shell Icon . A window will open with a prompt that looks something like this: Workbench2.0>_. This prompt tells you where you are, or in what disk and drawer you are. Member please note: This prompt may differ on your computer. Do not be alarmed if it is not the same. Please continue with the rest of the instructions. AFTER YOU ARE IN THE SHELL 1. From your CLI or Shell prompt you need to tell the Amiga the location of your chosen program. If, for example, the program is on Disk Volume111-D2 in Drawer XICON; at the prompt, type in CD VOLUME111-D2:XICON. (CD, Change Directory allows you to move from one directory to another.) 2. Type DIR, and this will give you a list of all the files in this Drawer. If the file scrolls off the screen, there are two things you can do: a. Enlarge the window with the mouse. Now type: DIR again and a list will appear on the entire screen. Or, b. While the directory is listing, press and hold down the control key. While holding down the control key, press and release the ÒSÓ key and the list will stop. To start the list again, repeat the procedure. This will work in any CLI or Shell window. 3. To execute the program, type in the Program name at the prompt: VOLUME111-D2:XICON> XICON (ENTER) or 1>XICON (ENTER), and the program will start. INSTALLING FONTS, LIBRARIES, AND DEVICES Some programs come with their own Fonts, Libraries or Devices. If this is the case, you will need to copy them into the correct drawer on your Workbench or System Disk. 1. If you have a directory utility, use it. Copy the Font from our disk into the Font:Drawer. Copy the Library into the LIB: Drawer. Copy the Device into the DEVS: Drawer. 2. If you do not have a Directory Utility program, then open a CLI or Shell, and CD (Change Directory) to the Drawer where the Font, Library, or Device is located. At the prompt, type: COPY "name of library" .LIBRARY SYS:LIBS (ENTER) or type: COPY "name of device".DEVICE SYS:DEVS (ENTER) . IF you need to copy a Font, there are two steps: 1. COPY "fontname" .FONT SYS:FONTS (ENTER) 2. COPY "fontname" SYS:FONTS (ENTER).
