This includes additional features added to Math-Amation since the manual went to press. We have had a lot of fun composing this product , which we believe, can become a valuable tool to you the end user. The enjoyment need not finish here however. If you complete the registration form and accompanying information sheet, you will contribute to the course of development of this product. The resulting modules will match the needs of you the end user. If you encounter any bugs in Math-Amation please report them as soon as possible. This is the first release of the program and due to its size and complexity we are unlikely to have eliminated them all. Bugs are no good for you or for us. Memories and Answers Output: Two additional output features have been added to Math-Amation. One enables you to produce a list of the memories and their contents. The other enables you to output the last fifty results and the expressions which formed these results. Under extras in the main menu you will notice an additional menu choice. This menu choice has two sub-options labeled results and memories. Memories sub-option: When this option is chosen a requester appears on the screen allowing you to select various output formats. You are able to select a range of memories. When the requester is first opened this range is set from 0 to Z which selects all the memories. You can change this by clicking on the string gadgets which specify the range and entering new values. This must be a valid memory specifier. A valid memory specifier is either a digit or a letter. You are also given various choices for the output. It is possible to selected memories output with their titles, labels or both. Simply click on the red square to the right of the choice and a tick will appear in the selected box. You can also choose whether the output goes to the printer or to a file in a similar manner. Results sub-option: This is very similar to the memories option above. It is possible to specify which results you wish to output. The range when opened is from 0 to 49 this specifies that all the results are to be printed. Some output options can also be chosen as with the memories allowing the output of expressions, numbers or both. The option to output to a printer or a file is also given here. Integration: The function plotting module, under algebra in the main menu, has been extended to provide an estimate of the integral of the function being plotted. The limits for the calculation are taken as the bounds set for the plotting of the function ie. Vmax and Vmin. The trapezoidal method is used to evaluate the area contained between the function and the x-axis. The maximum number of points for the integral is 1000. There is no hard and fast rule for the accuracy of the method, but we expect about four digits of accuracy in the returned integral for complicated functions, when 1000 points are used. The Integral could also be used for approximating the area between two curves that overlap. First locate the two points of intersection. Then using the points of intersection as the curve boundaries (Vmax, Vmin) plot the two functions using 1000 points. Subtract the smaller integral from the larger one and this represents the overlap area. Installing Math-Amation on to a Hard disk Drive. If you are the owner of a hard disk drive you may like to have Math-Amation installed on it. Please follow the following steps to make a copy on the Hard disk. 1. Boot your system as normal for use with the Hard disk. This disk that you boot with has a name under its icon on the workbench. This name is refered to as from here on. (Note: If the name is WorkBench then when typing the name, type just WorkBench. However if the disk has a name such as WorkBench 1.2, with a space in the name, then type it between double quotes ie. "WorkBench 1.2". 2. Insert the Math-Amation disk and double click on its icon (Use loadwb if you normally boot to a cli). 3. Double click on the icon labled Cli. You have now opened a Cli (Command Line Interface). 4. Choose a partition on the Hard disk that you wish to install Math-Amation on. Each partition on the Hard disk has an icon associated with it on the WorkBench Screen. This icon is a normal disk icon, and you will have supplied a name for this when formatting the Hard disk. The name of a partition under its icon on the Workbench Screen that you have chosen is refered to from now on as . 5. Then type the following commands pressing the return key after each line. makedir :Math-Amation copy Math-Amation:s/Math-Amation.info to : copy Math-Amation: to :Math-Amation all If you get a disk full requester when entering these, it means that there is not enough room on this partition to hold a copy of Math-Amation. Please type the following if this occurs and start again with another partition or with more disk space. Delete :Math-Amation#? all Be extra careful not to type this command incorrectly. 6. Type endcli to close the cli. 7. If the files have been copied across, then you need to add the following assignment to your startup sequence. The Startup-Sequence is a file that is executed everytime you boot the Amiga. It contains various commands to set up the Amiga System and provides the facility for some customising of how your Amiga boots. The line to add to this file is .... assign Math-Amation: :Math-Amation The pathname of this startup sequence file is :s/startup-sequence on the disk used earlier to boot the system and set up the hard disk. Use an editor to add the assignment to this file. (Note you Must save this file as a text file.) When adding this assignment ensure that it is after any commands necessary to setup the hard disk or a line containing the command BindDrivers It should also be before what may be the last line in the file ... endcli >nil: 8. Reboot your system 9. Double Click on the partition which you choose to contain Math-Amation. 10. Double Click on the Math-Amation drawer and you should see the normal Math-Amation icons. Printers and Preferences This section details how to use a printer with Math-Amation and change the Preferences. It is only necessary to do the following if you are booting directly with the Math-Amation disk. Printers: Math-Amation uses the normal printer drivers that you select under the preferences program with a workbench. The Math-Amation disk however does not come supplied with these drivers, and it is necessary to copy your printer driver to the disk. To do so please follow these steps. 1. Boot your system with a WorkBench which has you printer selected under preferences. Open preferences and go into printer control, and record the name of this printer. Whenever you see below, type the name of your printer instead. 2. Insert Math-Amation and Double click on its disk icon. 3. Open up a cli (Command Line Interface) by clicking on the icon labeled Cli in the Math-Amation window. Now type the following, pressing the return key after each line .... math-amation:c/cd math-amation:c copy devs:printers/ to math-amation:devs/printers endcli We have now copied the required printer driver to the math- amation disk. 4. Read the section below called "Changing Preferences", as it is necessary to select this printer under preferences on the math-amation disk. Changing Preferences: To change the preferences on the math-amation disk one must do the following. Boot the system with Math-Amation disk. Remove the Math-Amation disk and insert a workbench disk containing preferences. Use the preferences on the Workbench to select your printer and colors as normal and exit from Preferences selecting save. Printing Graphs: If you are printing graphs or graphics with Math-Amation and are using a black dot matrix printer you should set Aspect to horizontal, shade to Black and white , image to negative and Threshold to maximum, to obtain clear results.
