Accessing Char Codes from the keyboard

Typing character 'a' is easy, but it's not as clear how to access
characters such as 'à' or '¶'.

These characters are accessed using key combinations from the keyboard.
This means using more than one key.  The correspondence between Char
Codes and key combinations is directly related to the keymap you are
using on your Amiga.  A program called KeyToy is provided on the Extras
disk to let you experiment with which key combinations produce which
Char Codes.  Any time a new version of the Amiga operating system is
released, these relationships could change.

The table below is a guide to Char Codes on the USA keymap.  If you
aren't getting these characters, refer to the "KeyToy" utility (under
1.2 and 1.3) or KeyShow (under 2.0) to check your keymap's key
combinations.

Char Codes 128-159 are unprintable characters and not available from
the keyboard.

For key combinations of ALT with one other key, press and hold the ALT
key, then press the second key, then release both keys.

For key combinations of ALT with two other keys, press and hold the ALT
key, then press the second key.  Release both the ALT and the second
key, then press the third key.
