1.0 to 1.02 Conversion Problems
===============================

In some rare cases, you may encounter "skipping" or "flashing"
when playing a sound under 1.02 that you recorded under 1.0.  If
this happens, select the sample in OpenList and "Edit" it.  In the
editor, select "Begin".  This will remove all non-destructive edits,
and it will fix the "flashing".

Improvements to 1.02
====================

1. SMPTE error handling has been redone.  It should now be more
   reliable.
2. The CueList now has a '?' gadget allowing you to turn
   on/off different types of error detection.  If you have
   entries that often quit playing in the middle, try turning
   off SMPTE Jump.
3. The CueList now lets you enter the number of sounds to
   preload with '?'. Increase this number if you have trouble with
   sounds that don't trigger.
4. The busy pointer is a new 2.0 style.
5. Record will now stop when there is less than ~500K free
   on the recording device.
6. The Bars&Pipes integration tools are included on the
   disk in the B&P directory. See Appendix D for the installation
   procedure.  Note that these are BETA versions and you
   should report any bugs in the B&P tools to Dave Miller at 
   Blue Ribbon Sound Works @ (404) 377-1514.

Bugs Fixed in 1.02
===================

1. The 'Slow hard drive' bug has been fixed.  Also, as a result
   of fixing this bug, Studio 16 is more effecient at reading
   data from any drive.
2. CueList & Edit bugs fixed.
3. Crashing bug in Transport fixed.

Information Not In Your Manual
==============================

'Slow Hard Drive' Notes
-----------------------

If, after installing version 1.02 of Studio 16, your hard disk
is still abnormally slow, you need to change the DMA mask
on your hard disk.  If you have a 3000 or CBM controller,
you use 'HDToolbox' in your 'Tools' drawer.  Once HDToolbox
is running, select "Partition Drive" then "Advanced Options".
Now select your partition from the "bar", and select
"Change file system for partition".  Make a note of the original
MASK then Change the MASK to: 0x7FFFFFFE.
To save the changes, select "OK","OK","Save changes to drive".
You will need to re-boot your Amiga for the changes to
take effect.

If you are using a GVP hard disk controller, you use "FastPrep"
in manual mode, instead of HDToolbox.  See your GVP manual for
more information.  The correct DMA MASK for GVP controllers
varies--call GVP.  However, on newer controllers the above
mask should work.

Fast RAM
--------

In most cases, you must put some of your Fast RAM in the Amiga's
autoconfig space for maximum data transfer speeds.  For example,
on GVP 030 cards you can put memory in the autoconfig space,
or in the "extended" non 24 bit space.  In this example, you
must put some of the RAM in the autoconfig space.  This is
where Studio 16 will buffer samples to.

For more information on setting your RAM configuration, talk
to your Dealer or RAM manufacturer.

FastFileSystem & SyQuest Notes
------------------------------

We have noted that some versions of the 1.3 FastFileSystem have
bugs that cause Read/Write errors or even crashes when used
with Studio 16.  These problems appear to be more pronouced when
using a Syquest drive with a GVP series II controller. To fix
this problem, you can use the following solutions:

1. Upgrade to WorkBench 2.0. It is much less buggy than 1.3
2. Upgrade your GVP ROM's to the latest version.
3. If you must use 1.3, upgrade the FastFileSystem to a more
   recent version.  We have included a recent version designed
   to work with 1.3 in the 'L' directory.  Copy it onto your
   hard disk with the SHELL:
         COPY STUDIO16_1.02:L/FastFileSystem L:
   In order for the FastFileSystem to take effect, it must be
   copied to the RDB.  This is done with the same software
   you use to partition your hard drive.  Contact your dealer or
   or your hard drive controller manufacturer for more 
   information.

NOTE: You must run your hard drive partitioning software (e.g
HDToolBox) after installing 2.0 or a new FastFileSystem in order
for the new file system to take effect.

SCSI Reselection
----------------

When partitioning your hard drive, it is a good idea to turn
"Reselection" OFF.

StudioStop
----------

There is a new Shell command in your 'C' directory called
"StudioStop". You can use this to stop currently playing sounds
from the Shell. For StudioStop to work, the module "Utility" must
be resident.  Use the StudioOpen command (see your manual).

SmpteMonitor Error codes
------------------------

When SmpteMonitor is running, you may see flashing squares in
the upper left hand corner.  Every time a square flashes, it means
that a type of SMPTE "error" was detected.  From Left to Right,
the squares mean:

SMPTE Time Out
   No time code was detected for about 1/2 a second.  For example,
   pausing your video deck will cause this.

SMPTE Error
   An invalid time code was read.  Such as 00:00:00:48.  These
   type errors typicaly occur when the time code source
   is noise or distorted.

SMPTE Jump
   A discontinuity, or "jump", has occured in the time code.
   For example, 00:01:00:01, 00:01:00:02, 00:03:00:12, 00:03:00:13
   would cause this "error".  Jumps typically occur when you
   fast forward or rewind the time code source.

Known Bugs
==========

StudioPlay/StudioClose

If you create a script that has a StudioPlay command immediately
followed by a StudioClose command, the end of the playing sound
may be clipped off. To solve the probelm, put a small delay after
the StudioPlay.  E.G "Wait 1"
