Welcome to the  OpalVision System  Date: 28 July, 1992 This document lists last-minute inclusions and changes to the OpalVision documentation. You will notice that several relatively small features of OpalPaint described in the Reference Manual are not included in this initial release but will be completed in the next few weeks. It is vitally important that you return the Registration Card included with your OpalVision system so you can be contacted to arrange this upgrade, as well as information about future upgrades and software and hardware releases.  Notes on OpalPaint  Features to be completed soon.  Alpha Paint Work Mode, Magic Wand and ARexx Support (Note ARexx support already included in HotKey and Opal Presents!)  Features that require, and will be included with, OpalVision Frame Grabber / Genlock module.  Frame-Grabbing control (Extras Menu).  Additional Utility Programs.  The following utility programs are not described in the OpalVision documentation but can be found (after installation) in the OpalPaint:OpalUtils drawer on your Workbench. Most utilities can be run from the Workbench or, if required, from a CLI Shell or CLI script. Show24 This program loads and displays an image or list of images. The program automatically senses and loads images in the following image formats: IFF-24, OV-FAST, JPEG JFIF, all IFF palette-mapped formats up to 256 colours and standard Amiga HAM. To stop the display of an image and return to the CLI (or show the next image from the list) click the Left Mouse Button.  Workbench Usage Click once on the Show24 icon in the OpalUtils drawer, then while holding down the Shift key double-click on the icon for the image you wish to display. To sequentially display more than one image, click once on the Show24 icon, then while holding down the Shift key click once on the icon for each image and double-click on the icon for the last image. CLI Usage Show24 filename [filename...]  Backdrop24  This program loads an image into the on-board memory of the OpalVision Motherboard to be used as a backdrop behind the Workbench and other Amiga screens. The program automatically senses and loads images in the following image formats: IFF-24, OV-FAST, JPEG JFIF, all IFF palette-mapped formats up to 256 colours and standard Amiga HAM.  Workbench Usage Click once on the BackDrop24 icon in the OpalUtils drawer, then while holding down the Shift key double-click click on the icon for the image you wish to use as a backdrop. To remove the backdrop image simply double-click on the BackDrop24 icon  CLI Usage BackDrop24 filename To remove the backdrop image run the program again with no arguements, i.e. BackDrop24  Convert24  This program converts image files between various image formats. The program automatically senses the format of the source image in the following image formats: IFF-24, OV-FAST, JPEG JFIF, all IFF palette- mapped formats up to 256 colours and standard Amiga HAM.  Workbench Usage This program is designed to be run from the CLI only, and will not show a Workbench icon.  CLI Usage Convert24 SourceFile [TO] DestFile [AS] [FAST|IFF24|JPEG] [QUALITY nn] Default output file format is IFF24, and default Quality Rating is 75%. The Quality argument is for JPEG format and must be an integer percentage value between 1 and 100.  WacomMouse  This program enables or disables the emulation by the Wacom tablet of the standard Amiga mouse (requires Workbench 2.x). Note that the standard mouse is still active, although there may be some conflict and strange pointer-movement if you try and use them simulataneously! Note that the Wacom driver must be present in the devs: directory. Also see the section below on the Wacom configuration program (to be found in the Prefs drawer) to set up the threshold and Right Mouse Button emulation settings of the Wacom driver.  Workbench Usage To toggle the mouse-emulation action of the Wacom tablet between active and inactive (depending on the current setting), double-click the WacomMouse icon in the OpalUtils drawer.  CLI Usage WacomMouse [ON|OFF] If no arguments are supplied the program will merely toggle between active and inactive depending on the current setting.  MakeThumbnails  The MakeThumbnails program scans nominated drawers (directories) and sub-directories (if selected) on your hard drive for images in IFF-24, OV-FAST, JPEG JFIF, all IFF palette-mapped formats up to 256 colours and standard Amiga HAM. Each time it finds an image it inserts a Thumbnail into the image file. These tiny 24-bit thumbnails add only 5K to the size of each file but allow all programs that use the common OpalVision File Menu to display a minature but very clear representation of each image before loading it. The control panel also lets you select a "Remove Thumbnails" option to remove all image thumbnails in the specified directory and sub-directories. Although OpalVision uses a "private chunk" to store the thumbnail that should not interfere with other programs that implement IFF or JPEG correctly, you may need to remove thumbnails before loading images into some other image processing programs or computer platforms.   Changes to Getting Started Manual  The control program for Wacom Pressure Tablets can be found in the Prefs drawer of your Workbench. Note that Workbench 2.x is required to use the Wacom driver. To run the program, double-click the Wacom icon in the Prefs drawer of your Workbench. The program allows you to specify the active area of your Wacom Tablet and specify whether or not you want the Right-Alt key to emulate the Right Mouse Button. If selected, pressing the point of the stylus is equivalent to clicking or dragging using the Left Mouse Button and if the Right-Alt key is held down at the same time as the stylus point is pressed it is equivalent to clicking or dragging using the Right Mouse Button.
