Professional Page Version 3.0 Instructions for Installing on a Hard Disk ========================================== ********************************************************************** * * * To guard against damage to your diskettes, please write-protect * * them before proceeding. Instead, hit the CANCEL button on the requester. * * * ********************************************************************** To get a hard-copy listing of this information Double-click on the Print-Help icon. Automatically, this file will be copied to your dot-matrix printer. You can't do this on a PostScript printer. If you have a PostScript printer which can emulate some other printer type, switch it into its emulation mode, and run the Amiga's Preferences program to tell the system what kind of printer you're emulating (see your printer's instruction manual, and the Introduction to the Amiga manual, for details). REQUIREMENTS ********************************************************************** Professional Page 3.0 requires 2MB memory, and a hard disk. The complete Professional Page system requires a total of approximately 5MB free space on your hard drive. (If you are upgrading this will be significantly smaller since many files will be replaced.) PPage: 1400 KB Tutorial: 120 KB optional Bitmap fonts: 660 KB optional - either in FONTS: or PPage drawer CGFonts: 1500 KB optional - may be put into any partition FontManager: 460 KB optional HelpBook: 710 KB optional Version 1.3 (or higher) of the Workbench software must be installed on your Amiga in order for this installation procedure to work correctly. The Professional Page Installation Procedure  ********************************************************************** From the WorkBench, open the disk or drawer where you want the PPage drawer to be put. Drag the Install_PPage icon from Disk 1 into the destination drawer. Double-click on the icon in its new position. Note:The Professional Page files are not actually placed in the drawer you choose. Instead, a drawer called PPage is created there, and the files are installed inside it. The installation procedure has now been started. If you are upgrading from an earlier version of Professional Page you will be asked whether you want to replace your existing program. Answering 'N' will cause PPage to be installed in the drawer where you have placed the Install icon. Answering 'Y' will cause the new program to be put into the same drawer where the older version had been installed. Next, the utility will indicate the name of the drawer that you have selected. You will then be asked to confirm your choice. If you type 'N', then the installation is aborted. Typing 'Y' will start the installation. This gives you a chance to back out if you made a typing mistake. If you say No here, the installation will quit without changing your hard drive at all. Once you have told the installation to go ahead, it will perform a number of different steps. You have some options to choose. The following points summarize the steps of the installation, and what choices you need to make. 1. A drawer called PPage is created in the location you specified This drawer will contain most of the Professional Page files. 2. The Professional Page program is copied into this new PPage drawer, along with some other files needed by Professional Page. 3a. You will be asked whether the Professional Page bitmap fonts should be copied into your system's FONTS: drawer. There may not be room for them there, or you may want to keep the Professional Page fonts separate from your other Amiga fonts. So you have another option: 3b. You may instead choose to copy the bitmap fonts into the PPage drawer. If you choose this option, two extra icons will be created in the PPage drawer: - PPageFonts switches the system over to using the Professional Page fonts. Double-click on PPageFonts before running Profes- sional Page. - AmigaFonts switches back to the Amiga fonts. Double-click on this icon before running paint programs, word-processors, or other applications which use "normal" fonts. If you will be using only Compugraphic fonts, you might choose not to do either of steps 3A or 3B, since the bitmap fonts take up a fair amount of space. If you later change your mind and want some of the bitmap fonts, you can always run the installation procedure again to get them. 4. You are given the option of installing the Tutorial files to the hard drive. These files will be put in a drawer called NewsLetter These are only used in the Tutorial, and are not needed for production work. 5. If you do not have ARexx installed on your system, the install utility will be unable to automatically install the PPage 'Genies'. Instead, it will ask whether you want to install them to S: for future use. If you respond 'Y', then the Genies will be placed in the S directory of your system partition. Genies require ARexx to function in Professional Page. Placing them in 'S:' will allow them to be used if you later install ARexx. 6. You will not need to do this step if you have previously installed Professional Page 1.3 or higher. If you are running Workbench V1.3, a script called PPageStartup will be placed in your S: directory. This contains some commands which must be executed before Professional Page is started. You should edit the file S:startup-sequence, inserting the following line near the end, just before the EndCLI command: Execute S:PPageStartup You can use the Notepad for this, as long as you're careful not to put in any font or styling changes. Alternatively, you can use either of the Ed or Edit commands. If you are running Workbench V2.0 or later, PPageStartup will be put in the WBStartup drawer and will be automatically executed each time you boot your Amiga. The Compugraphic Fonts Installation Procedure  ********************************************************************** On Disk1 there is a separate install for the Compugraphic fonts. Open the disk or drawer where you want to install the fonts. Drag the Install_CGFonts icon into the drawer. Double-click on the icon in its new position. If you have CGFonts previously installed on your system, the installation utility will ask whether you want to add the fonts to the existing drawer. NOTE: If you respond 'No' and continue with the installation, then the old cgfonts drawer will NO LONGER BE USED BY PPAGE. Only the new CGfonts will be accessible to PPage. Next, the install utility will indicate the drawer you have selected. It will then ask for confirmation. If you type 'N', then the installation will be aborted. Otherwise, the installation will be installed in the indicated drawer. If you choose not to install the Professional Page Bitmap fonts or the Compugraphic fonts at this time, you can re-install them later by repeating the above instructions.
