                   SMCUTIL Version 1.0 User Guide
                   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Preface
~~~~~~~
SMCUTIL is a 3rd generation transfer program designed for use with
Commodore's Amiga computers and Front FarEast/China Coach Company's
SuperMagicom/SuperProComm Famicom/SNES cartridge backup systems.

This software was originally known as "SMCPLAY" & "SMCXFER" but have
now been combined together to make the package more streamlined (and to
make updating an easier task).

Requirements
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Copy "arp.library" to your LIBS: directory (if you don't already have it)
Connect your Amiga to your console using the parallel cable (see below).
SMCUTIL has been tested on both KS1.3 and KS2.0 and upto 40Mhz 68030 with
no problems.
Using SMCUTIL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SMCUTIL has 3 modes of operation. These are:

              Play Mode - <DEFAULT>
                          This allows game to be downloaded
                          from the computer and played immediately.
                          (This eliminates the need for a HD drive)
                          The software automatically detects between
                          DOS images and game-files (as they run slighty
                          differently) and executes them accordingly.
                          Play will also detect if the game has been
                          split and will try to locate the next part
                          (if any). If unable to find the next part, SMCUTIL
                          will abort with an error. On successful transfer
                          of all parts the game will be run.

          Transfer Mode - TRANSFER option on command line.
                          Setting this forces SMCUTIL to do the following:
                          1. Download a copy of SAVE-DOS.
                          2. Download the file.
                          3. Pass down the filename to the SAVE-DOS
                             (Eliminating the need to enter a filename
                              on the console screen, just select SAVE FILE).
                             SMCUTIL is intelligent enough to seperate the
                             path off of the filename. Any filename less
                             than 11 characters will be padded, filenames
                             greater than 11 characters will be truncated.

          AutoSave Mode - AUTOSAVE option on command line.
                          This will do everything that the TRANSFER option
                          does and in addition, it will instruct the console
                          to save the file in memory off to disk. At the end
                          of saving (or if an error occurs) the console will
                          restart itself (see limitations).

*PLEASE NOTE*
Split file searching is disabled when using the TRANSFER/AUTOSAVE options.

e.g.  SMCUTIL DH2:Famicom/SFIGHT.1
      SMCUTIL DH2:TOPRACER
      (Play a game searching for split files if any).

      SMCUTIL DH2:Famicom/ROADRUN.NER TRANSFER
      SMCUTIL DH2:DESERT transfer
      (First sends the SAVE-DOS, then the game and finally the filename)

      SMCUTIL DH2:Famicom/ACTRAISER AUTOSAVE
      SMCUTIL DH1:Development/INTRO.FAM AUTOSAVE
      (As Above and will automatically save it too!)

Limitations
~~~~~~~~~~~
Due to the design of the Commodore Amiga's parallel port, all information is
sent to the console in 'GOOD FAITH' without the ability to recieve back any
of the checksum flag's. This means that no checking can take place.
For Example:
   The HD drive has "No Disk" in it, the save process will be aborted but
   SMCUTIL will assume that it finished OK. So it is better to check these
   things before you delete your latest and greatest game off your Hard
   Drive.
The Last Bit
~~~~~~~~~~~~
SMCUTIL was written and developed of a 3 month period. We hope you will enjoy
using it.
