CSA/AMIGA PIGGYBACK BOARD INSTRUCTIONS 3-5-86 Welcome to the world of the 68020/68881 and large ram! The following installation instructions will make getting started easy. Included on this diskette are the following programs which will help you: 1. MemOn.bas Turns off the write protect bits in the CSA extended 32 bit ram (enables the ram for write) and adds 512K bytes of ram to the Amigados system memory. 2. addmem An Amigados command to add memory to the system. 3. FPCPTest.bas A 68881 test program. There is a bug in this program which causes it to fail when run a second time. This is a program fault and not a 68881 problem. 4. testfpp Part of the 68881 test program. 5. MemTest.bas A simple test for all 512K of CSA extended 32 bit ram. 6. Cache Enables the on-board 68020 cache memory (256 bytes). 7. No_Cache Disables the 68020 cache. 8. Mandelbrot This program is an implementation of the famous Mandelbrot set as described in the August, 1985 Scientific American magazine. It is a good demonstration of the power of the 68020/68881 combination. To utilize the 68881, type: p3 (for parameter preset 3), f2 (to activate the 68881) and g (for generate). An f1 will generate without the 68881. After you have installed the 68020/68881 piggy back board and the optional memory board, you have a Turbo-Amiga. The Turbo-Amiga will run all programs without any special operating procedures with the following exceptions: 1. The IBM PC emulator will not run. 2. The Workbench 1.1 calculator has a bug in it which prevents it from working with the 68020. Use the calculator supplied on this diskette. 3. When using the CSA 32 bit memory, make sure that any bit planes are allocated to the the Amiga 16 bit memory. The Amiga special purpose coprocessors cannot access the CSA 32 bit memory. AMIGA INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Carefully remove 5 screws from the bottom of the Amiga computer. 2. Remove the plastic top cover from the Amiga computer (use a flat screwdriver near the corners to gently pry the case apart). 3. Remove many screws holding down the metal electrostatic shield inside the computer. 4. Untwist the two twist tabs holding the electrostatic shield down to the Amiga computer main board. 5. Carefully remove the electrostatic shield. 6. Solder a short piece of wire joining pin 10 of IC chips #J,K,L and N on the Amiga WCS board. The WCS board is the amiga daughter board (inside the Amiga) which contains the Kickstart ram. See the CSA 68020 User's Manual for its exact location. 7. With a long screwdriver, carefully remove the 68000 processor chip from behind the disk drive on the Amiga computer board. Note: Steps 8-11 apply only if you are installing a CSA memory board along with the CSA piggy back board. 8. Unplug the 7-pin power connector from the Amiga computer board. 9. Install the CSA power adapter plug between the Amiga power connector and the Amiga power supply cable. 10. Plug the Amiga power supply cable into the CSA power adapter plug on the Amiga computer board. 11. Plug the other end of the CSA supplied power cable into the CSA memory board. 12. Lay the mylar insulator supplied on top of the Amiga computer board so that the plastic posts protrude through the correspond- holes in the insulator. Make sure that the ribbon cable to the Amiga disk drive is firmly seated. It comes loose very easily. 13. Carefully align the pins of the CSA piggyback board (with the CSA memory board attached, if purchased) in the 68000 socket on the Amiga computer board. 14. Firmly press the CSA piggyback board pins into the 68000 socket. Make sure that the pins are well seated in the socket. It is difficult to see if all the pins are properly seated in the Amiga 68000 socket. Gently apply pressure on the piggy back board, feeling for proper seating. It is easy to bend a pin on the piggy back board in this step. When you are sure that all pins are engaged properly in the Amiga 68000 socket, apply firm pressure to fully seat the pins. 15. Before replacing the electrostatic shield and plastic Amiga covers, connect the Amiga computer to its peripherals and AC power and boot the system normally. Use the kickstart 1.1 "Piggy" diskette supplied by CSA. 16. If you have installed a CSA 32 bit memory board then you should load and run the basic program "MemOn". This will enable all four 128K sections of the ram and add 512K of ram to the Amiga- dos available memory. Look at the listing of this file to see how this is accomnplished. The four leds on top of the CSA memory board will illuminate if this function is successfully accomplished. To turn off the write enable (write protect a section of ram execute: poke &H6f0X0000,0. The corresponding led should extinguish, indicating a protected section of ram. You can read the status of these bits by executing: print peek(&H6f0X0000). "X" is as follows: X Bank Address Range 0 0 7f000000-7f01ffff 2 1 7f020000-7f03ffff 4 2 7f040000-7f05ffff 6 3 7f060000-7f07ffff This memory will only be available if you have purchased a CSA 512K memory card. 17. Load and run "FPCPTest.bas" to check the 68881 floating point math coprocessor using Abasic. This test can only be accomplished if you have purchased the 68881 chip with your piggy back board. 18. The calculator included on this disk has been corrected to run with the 68020. The workbench 1.1 calculator had an error in it which would prevent it from working properly with the 68020.
