Squirrel SCSI Interface 1.12 ---------------------------- 29th August 1995 ---------------- $VER: ReadMe 1.13 (29.8.95) Welcome to the Squirrel SCSI Interface. This file is intended to supplement the manual, giving you the latest details on your SCSI Interface and supplied software. Installation ------------ The installation process is designed to be fully automatic, note that a number of system files are updated to later versions; if at any time you reinstall your system software you must reinstall the appropriate pieces of the Squirrel SCSI software to update these files to the required versions. New in 1.12 ----------- 1.12 includes minor changes for the Iomega® Zip drive and includes support in the CD32 emulator for NEC SCSI-1 CD-ROM drives (such as the NEC CDR-210P). New in 1.11 ----------- Hard drive mounting in 1.11 is substantially different from earlier versions; in earlier versions SCSIMounter was used to mount all partitions on external devices, in this version the SquirrelSCSI program (found in C:) has an additional option, "MOUNT" which mounts all partitions on hard drives connected to your Squirrel interface. This has the advantage that the parameters of the partitions being mounted can to be 'tweaked' to take best advantage of the Squirrel. In addition support for RDB loaded file systems has been added, ensuring that alternate filesystems (such as CrossDOS, CrossMAC & Ami-FileSafe) can be used hard drives connected to a Squirrel. CDTV and CD32 support is now available for the A600, note that many CD32 titles require at least a 68020 and/or AGA graphics and so will not work. New in 1.1 ----------- 1.10 includes for the first time CDTV emulation support (for both CDTV titles and CD32 titles which use CDTV routines), note however that many CDTV titles fail when confronted with the 68020 fitted to an A1200... A program for configuring CD32 emulator options, CD32Setup, is included; this allows the instruction and data caches, fast memory and 'fast VBR' support to be enabled and disabled (the default is instruction cache on, everything else off). To access this during boot up of a CD32 title, hold down either the left mouse button, or the Red button on a CD32 controller. Having set your options, the title setup may either be 'Save'd, 'Use'd or 'Cancel'd; if 'Save' is selected the setup will be permanently saved on your boot disk (in the CD32:TitleSetup drawer), 'Use' will make the settings effective for this boot only, and 'Cancel' will ignore any changes. Note that by accessing this program during boot up certain fundamental system parameters are changed (the screen changes from black to grey and the Workbench pointer is enabled for example), these simple changes may be enough to stop a title from working successfully or introduce visual corruption. To avoid these, decide which settings work, save them permanently and then do not access the setup program surring subsequent reboots. SCSIMounter ----------- A licensed copy of SCSIMounter 2.04 from Martin A. Blatter is included; this provides an extremely easy method for mounting partitions on either removable or fixed disks with your Squirrel SCSI interface. Full documentation is included in the SCSIMounter drawer in both AmigaGuide and plain text format. Note that this copy of SCSIMounter is licensed to HiSoft (check the About box), a non-licensed freely distributable copy of SCSIMounter 2.04 should be available on Aminet sites and mirrors. High Speed Serial Usage ----------------------- If you are attempting high speed serial communications whilst using a Squirrel mounted hard disk (or other device), the normal Squirrel operation can introduce additional interrupt latency which causes characters to be lost (typically error 6, line error from your comms program). If this occurs the SquirrelSCSI command can be used to disable the normal high speed Squirrel mode and use in place a low-interrupt latency mode; this is achieved by the CLI command: SquirrelSCSI POLLEDIO to switch back to the normal I/O mode the command SquirrelSCSI BLINDIO may be used. (the SquirrelSCSI command is found in the CD32:C drawer) SquirrelSCSI/Extras/DOSDrivers ------------------------------ This drawer contains several mount files: FP0 is for an MS-DOS format Floptical® drive (in either 720KB, 1.44MB or 21MB mode) PC270C is a 270MB MS-DOS format SyQuest® cartridge mountfile. For each of these files the UNIT= line in the tool types will need to be altered to reflect the SCSI ID of the relevant device. To automatically enable these drivers on each reboot they may either be placed in the WBStartup drawer (for WB2.05) or the Devs/DOSDrivers drawer (WB2.1, WB3.0, WB3.1 and above). CD0 FLAGS --------- An additional tool type, FLAGS=1, is present in the CD0 icon's tool types; this flag to cd.device allows Commodore's CDFileSystem (which normally doesn't try to find multiple sessions on a multi-session disc) to 'see' the final session on a multi-session disc. FLAGS=1 should only be used when you are using the Commodore CDFileSystem via cd.device.
