Information about PDQMail (updated January 24, 1992) =================================================== Throughout the documentation, and from time to time in the various support echos you'll see references to PDQMail, PDQTick, PDQAreafix, PDQTraffic, etc. This file should answer some questions you might have about these things and how they work with DLGMail and DLG. PDQMail ======= PDQMail is the "broad name" for utilities and, in the future, possible enhanced executables which will work with your DLG Pro BB/OS / DLGMail system. PDQMail and DLGMail are BOTH written and (C) 1990,91,92 Intuitive Software, but the programs themselves are marketed differently. DLGMail is the set of Fido mail processing executables distributed exclusively through Telepro Technologies, now included with all copies of the DLG Pro BB/OS sold. PDQMail is the set of Fido mail processing (and related) executables distributed exclusively through Intuitive Software directly. You might say that PDQMail utilities and other executables fill any voids left in your Fido mail processing system. PDQAreafix+ =========== A full-featured Areafix request processor, PDQAreafixPlus is an enhanced and expanded PDQAreafix program. PDQAreafixPlus is broken into two parts, an Areafix process for message echos and a Raid processor for file echos. More features are slated for it in the coming months to make it even better! PDQAreafix+ is part of PDQMail Utilities Volume I. PDQTick ======= A full-featured Tick/Hatch file echo processor, allowing you to join in some of the many file echos which exist and receive (and send) files from other system. The Tick function can automatically process new files right into the DLG File Area, making them available immediately to your users! Compatible with multinetwork use, files can be released to any other 3D or 4D address. Password and CRC security. Outbound files are sent from their final destination directories within your BBS system, no additional "outbound:" space wasted. File areas may be designated as Local, or non-local (soon with the "passing through" option for automatic deletion after all destinations have received them). Replace option allows identically named files to replace existing files when received. Ignore option allows specialty handling of files via PDQHub, for rehatching or local processing. Configurable "uploader" and announcement name. Configurable multi announcmenet message header and tailer. Support for automatic purging of pass-throughed files. Support for dual storage of new files, allowing operator to move new files around within DLG while not destroying the distribution file integrity. Rescue and bad reporting functions allow you to add and process new file areas after receiving of files in them has begun. PDQTick is a part of PDQMail Utilities Volume I. PDQHub ====== PDQHub's ever-expanding lineup of functions is primarily designed to relieve the busy system operator from tending to needless file moving chores. Cleverly written and configured by you, it will detect a number of "defects" in your system which might otherwise go unnoticed, hatch files, deleted and move files, and keep you informed of its doings. Trap for files by name (including wildcards), then process them automatically. PDQHub allows you to "rehatch" files when combined with PDQAreafix. PDQHub is a part of PDQMail Utilities Volume I. PDQTraffic ========== Keep track of echomail imported/exported on a daily basis for up to one full year at a time. Easily located areas where your feed has been dropped. Allows you to confirm your net's billing for cost-recovered echomail distribution. PDQTrack is a part of PDQMail Utilities Volume I. It is distributed with DLGMail, as a crippled utility, to assist you in managing your network connections. After purchaing the PDQMail utilities keyfile, the crippled PDQTraffic will become full-featured. AVAILABILITY ============ All programs described above are available NOW as part of the PDQMail Utilities Volume I distribution, except for PDQTraffic which is included with DLGMail distributions since it works in crippled mode. Purchase of PDQMail Utilities Volume 1 can be made from the support system, Steve's One Stop DLG Shop, Fido 1:114/52. Please see specific pricing and ordering information below. Updates are available electronically through the network or from the support system. Support is maintained through the PDQMAIL support echo. ORDERING/PRICING ================ To keep costs down and order processing efficient, the following purchase policy has been found to be the most efficient means of distributing PDQMail software and taking advantage of the electronic distribution means already established because you run a BBS and are part of a network: PDQMail Utilities Volume I costs $50.00 plus "handling" where applicable. Please read carefully about the available methods of receiving the software below, then figure the handling charge accordingly... 1) If you plan to log into the support board and download your keyfile from your private file area, there will be NO handling charge. You must log in and establish your own account on Steve's One Stop DLG Shop (602/788-7144) before this can take place. New accounts will not be created by the developer... The actual latest release versions of the software will be made available to you in restricted public file area 3003. 2) If you would like your keyfile placed on hold for you, and optionally the latest PDQMail Utilities Vol I archive, there will be NO handling charge. 3) If you would like your keyfile file attached to you and automatically mailed to you when it is completed, please read the following carefully: First, you MUST be listed in the official Fido nodelist, and have the HST, V32 or V32bis nodelist flags. Next, add the appropriate amount (from the table below) for handling. Since TrapDoor isn't always the most cooperative mailer on overseas connections, a maximum of 10 tries will be attempted to gain a connect to your overseas system before placing your keyfile and/or archive on hold for you here. Keyfile alone Keyfile and latest archive =========================== ========================== US Customers add $2 US Customers add $5 Canadian Customers add $4 Canadian Customers add $10 European Customers add $7.50 European Customers add $15 4) As of 5/25/92, postal delivery will no longer be an acceptable means of delivery - the additional handling involved in packaging and dropping off at the post office, with a window wait of from 5 to 30 minutes to get postage correct is an unacceptable hassle, plus an electronic delivery of software is much faster and, generally, cheaper anyway.
