The disaster occurred on April 14, 1912, when the Royal Mail Ship Titanic, on her maiden voyage, brushed an iceberg and took 1,500 souls to their deaths in freezing water. The program not only covers that fateful night, but also the reasons she was built, the reaction to the disaster and finally the discovery of the wreck. Titanic II will be of great interest to students studying Maritime history or for those simply interested in Titanic. Full instructions for operating the program can be found within Titanic II. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS ==================== Titanic II will work on any Amiga which has at least 1MB of chip memory and OS 2.0 or later installed, the program will also make use of an external floppy drive if available. Titanic II can be installed to Hard Disk, see below. INSTALLING TO HARD DISK ======================= To Install Titanic II on to your Hard Disk you can use the supplied HDInstall Program. If you would rather do it yourself The following should be noted. Titanic II finds its files by reading in the Titanics.prefs from the current System disk (be it floppy or Hard Disk), if this file is not found Titanic II uses its defaults, consequently it will not know where to find its files and the program will abort. Getting around this problem you can do the following. First load the TitanicII.prefs into a text editor such as Ed. Looking at the file you will see that the first three lines contain the paths of Titanic's three directorys: Titanic1:Music/ Titanic2:Pics/ Titanic1:Data/ So if you had installed Titanic II to a partition called Work and into a directory called Test, you should edit the file to read: Work:Test/Music/ Work:Test/Pics/ Work:Test/Data/ Also if you wish to throw all Titanic's files into one directory say for instance Test2, you should edit the file to read: Work:Test2/ Work:Test2/ Work:Test2/ Once you have finished editing the file you should save it to your Sys/S directory, and when you next run Titanic II it will hopefully find it's files from the paths you have given it. You should also copy the Diskfont.library and Titanic fonts, found on Titanic disk 1, to your Libs and Fonts directorys. EARLIER VERSIONS ================ There is just one earlier version of Titanic II entitled simply `Titanic'. This title is still available from the CLR as disk CLE 54. ADDITIONS FROM EARLIER VERSION ============================== * The user-interface has been revamped for a more polished look. * A palette editor has been added, so you can now choose the screen colours and save them to disk for later use. * Real-time clock displayed on screen. * In-built screen saver, with full configuration. * You can now alter the interval time between the Slide-Show pictures. * A 50 question multiple choice quiz has been added to test your knowledge of the Titanic, the quiz give's a score and rating. * New section called `The Voyage', this screen has 11 small pictures. Each picture detailing the maiden voyage of Titanic. * New section called `A New Titanic', this screen gives details of a replica Titanic that is being built by the Japanese. * New section called `Casualties', these screen's offer a graph or table, and a conclusion on the amount of passengers lost and saved. * New section called `Companies' these screen's offer a selection of, companies related to the Titanic, each screen has a company logo. * New section called `Other Sources', these screen's offer a selection of Titanic related material from media sources. * New section called `Prophecy', this screen gives details of a prophecy made about the Titanic disaster. * A couple of pictures have been added to the picture section. BUG_FIXES FROM EARLIER VERSION ============================== * Titanic II no longer reads all the fonts stored on the system disk into memory, it simply searches and loads the required fonts. * The annoying flickering of the scroll bar in the `Cross Section' has been removed. * The HDInstall program now works has it was intended. * Over 40 spelling mistakes have been corrected. OTHER TITLE'S BY THE SAME AUTHOR ================================ TUTANKHAMUN ----------- Available from your local (Central Linenseware Registry) as disk's CLE 63. Tutankhamun is very much in the same format as Titanic, it too uses text, diagrams and pictures to convey its information.
