Any damage directly or indirectly caused by the use or misuse of this documentation and/or the program(s) it describes is the sole responsibility of the user her/him self --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Introduction -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Did you ever play a two player, joystick controlled game? After playing it for 5 hours you wanted to play another two player game, which you had to start from the workbench, what did you do then ?? a) unpluged the joystick in gameport 0 , plugged the mouse in ( With the power on, risking to damage the CIA of the Amiga ) , Startup the game unplug the mouse again, put the joystick back in and finaly play the game? b) Played arround with the Right-Amiga key together with the cursor-key's and right-alt key for 10 minutes to. Terrible way of controling your mouse pointer isn't it. Or you can use this little program, so you can use your joystick to control your mouse pointer. Alternatively, this program can also change the port the mouse pointer reacts to.This feature is specialy usefull were a left-handed and a right- handed person share the same Amiga; Buy an extra mouse, plug it in port 1 place one mouse at the left side of the keyboard and at the right side & use this program to switch between mouses. Requirements -------------------------------------------------------------------------- This program should run on every amiga, from a A1000 KS1.0/256Kb to a 68060 powered A4000 with loads of ram and the newest kickstart. If not: contact the author PLEASE !!! (See below how to reach me) Tested on an A1200 with an CSA1250 turbo board and 10Mb RAM. Installation -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just copy SetPort to the C: directory, or anywhere you like. It does not need any assing's, external files or devices. How to use SetPort -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From CLI: Type 'SETPORT portnumber devtype' where portnumber is the number of the gameport used for input ( 0 = port 0 / 1 = port 1 -->> How difficult !!! ) and devtype this the type of input device used for controling the mouse- pointer is can be: 'j' for joystick, 'm' for mouse, 't' for trackerball or 'f' for freeze (no controler at all!!) you can also specify only one option: ( If you only specify '1' only the input port is set to 1, the device is not changed. or if you specify 'j' the current port is set to joystick mode ) to set the mouse pointer back to normal (power-up default) just type: 'SETPORT 0 m' or 'SETPORT m 0' (as the sequence doen't matter) Personaly I use the WorkBench commodity 'F-Key' (KS2.1+) to control the port: Just define, for example, the Right-Amiga-J combination for RUN PROGRAM 'C:SETPORT j >NIL:' , the Right-Amiga-m for 'C:SETPORT m >nil:', Right-Amiga-0 for 'C:SETPORT 0 >nil:' and Right-Amiga-1 for 'SETPORT 1 >nil:' Save the definitions (Menu :'Save Defined Keys') and 'hide' the progam (if you have F-Key in your WB-Startup drawer you now always can control your mousepointer with a flick of the key's) Note : Most joysticks only have one button, this button will act like the left button of the mouse. So Menu's are only accessable with the help of the keyboard (Holding down the Right-Amiga & the Right- Alt key will popup your menu bar) Note2: A CD32 Joypad is extremly good for controling your mouse pointer, you can even access menu's directly. Note3: The mouse speed set in the preferences will also used for controling the speed of the pointer with other input devices. Bugs ?? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I Don't hope so, but if you find any please write or call (See About The Author how to write) Only bug I can think of is the 't'rackball option: I don't know if it's realy react to a trackerball, according to the documentation I used it should be (But you never know), If anybody can try it ( Or try a drawing tablet or some other input device connected to the game port ) and write to me if it works I would be very gratefull.
