Welcome to the updated edition (V 3.03) of Diskmaster. Like edition 2.01: If you want to get rid of the text you're seeing when you boot up, remove all the lines with 'echo' in front of them from the startup-sequence in the S-directory. You can use 'Edit Startup' from the Project-menu. Also delete the line 'WaitLMB'. Then save it and quit. Do this only after you made a copy of this package, so other people will be able to understand it like you did. Thanks and till later.... AbortCommand Now a short desription of the programs mentioned above: 1. Diskmaster V 2.0 ( Copyrighted 1990 Gully from Paradox) : This is a very nice diskprogram. It can do almost everything with your files: It views GIF, JPEG (these two only with external programs!), ILBM and many more kinds of pictures, it plays modules and 8SVX samples, it can read HEX and normal text. It can pack (and ofcourse) unpack files DMS, LHA, LZH and even LZX. It can format and copy disks. If you want to add commands or functions just edit the configuration file called 'Startup.DM' and is located in the S-directory. Use the 'Add cmd Window' from the 'Project'-menu to make room for your commands. If it asks you to add commands just press cancel, place it in the right position and use the 'Save config' from the Project-menu. Now you can edit the configfile by using the 'Ed DM' also from the Project- menu. All you have to do is fill in your wishes. The line 'single;external' will activate the program you put after that line. See for yourself and try it. For instance you can put Protracker or an other program you use often in Diskmaster. DON'T FORGET TO SAVE AFTER YOU ARE DONE WITH THE CONFIGURATION !!! (YOU CAN USE THE SAVE & QUIT-OPTION IN THE EDITOR) If you're ready, use the 'Reconfigure' in the Project-menu and you're off... * note: there is an extra file in the S-directory called Startup.dm1. In this file are some more commands you could add to your config. Be carefull, not all of them may work!! If you want to use the 'Find' option in the (middle) command window, you have to click on the directories you want to search in first. Then press the 'Find' button and enter the string you want to search for. A little note on the textreader. If you want to read a HEX-text click once on the file you want to read and press READ in the middle window. If it's a normal text it will automatically show on your screen if you double-click on the text you want to read. If you see the text, you can search for a string by pressing 'S'. If the string is found and it is not the one you are looking for, press 'C' to search for the next string. Pres 'T' to go to the top of the text and 'B' for the bottom of the text. If you want to read HEX-text normally press 'M'. 'Escape' abordes and 'Q' and 'RightMouseButton' are used to go to the next text. Scrolling through the text can be done by pressing your left mousebutton and moving your mouse up or down. 'Shift + Arrow Down' makes the text scroll downwards for an entire page, 'Shift + Arrow Up' makes the text scroll upwards for an entire page and 'Arrow Left' and 'Arrow Right' scroll to the left and right. For those of you who have a HardDisk and a Workbench on it, there is a 'Loadwb' option in the Project menu. Use this only if you booted with Diskmaster. That's about it for Diskmaster. O yeah, it still uses a lot less memory than Directory Opus! 2. PPshow ( Copyright (c) Nico François ) : PPshow is a picture/animation viewer. PPShow fully supports the 16.8 million colors and HAM8 mode of the AGA (AA) chip set of the Amiga 4000 and Amiga 1200. Press 'M' to toggle the mouse pointer on/off. Press 'S' or the left mouse button to start/stop the animation. Press 'N' to advance a frame (when stopped). More about this program in the complete package available at the nearest Public Domain Bulletin Board (or ask your contacts). 3. Cignus Ed Professional Release 3.5 : ( Copyright 1987-1993 CignusSoft Software ) This is the latest version of this professional editor, security cracked. The features I use most are: Amiga B : Block on/off Amiga C : Copy block to memory Amiga V : Insert block Amiga K : Delete line Amiga L : Insert Line (last deleted line) Amiga S : Search for string * note: if the first string you are searching for is loacated and it is NOT the one you are looking for, press 'Amiga S' again to search for the next string. Ofcourse there are a lot more functions, but that is up to you to find out and use them. 4. Deksid v1.1 (Copyright by Christian Warren) : Merely a simple HEX-editor. Nothing more and nothing less. I am sure there are more editors then just this one, but this is the one I use the most and it is very usefull to me. Besides there wasn't enough room on the disk for a professional HEX-editor. 5. DMS (Copyright 1994-95 PanCom Software) : Nothing special about this feature. I'm sure that you have used DMS before. One of the reasons I put DMS in Diskmaster was because I was fed up with using a special DMS (un)packer if I wanted to (de)crunch a disk. For those of you who do not know what it does: DMS packs a disk INCLUDING the bootblock on that disk. Most games have their own bootblock and it will not run without it. DMS packing can only be done if the files you want to pack are on disk. Just use 'DMS to Df0' or 'DMS add' in the Archives-menu. If you want to add DMS (=crunch/pack a disk), be sure there is a Source directory. In the upper right of the two big windows are letters. The 'S' stands for Source and the 'D' stands for Destination directory (wow what a logic). If there is nothing in it, it means that this window is not active. If the DMS-adding is complete, there will be a file in your Source directory called Rename-me.DMS. This is the disk you just packed. 6. LHA (Evaluation V1.51 Copyright 1992 by Stefan Boberg) : Lha is one of the most used packers available. It packs all the files you want into one package, which you must name first. If you want to see what's in a lha-file, use 'LHA List'. Extracting can be done by using 'LHA Extr.' to extract in the Source directory or use 'LHA X> dest' to extract to the destination directory. Unpacking to RAM is also possible. If you Double-click on a LHA packed file it will automatically unpack to the Destination directory so be sure the Destination directory is what you want it to be (preferably empty). All LHA funtions are also in the Archives-menu. 7. LZX 1.00 (Evaluation) 68020/68030 Version : (Copyright 1995 Data Compression Technologies) LZX is almost the same as LHA, except this util packs more and faster. The version icluded here is the 68020/68030 version, so you can't use it on lower versions. I myself prefer Lha, but if you get a LZX-packed file, at least you can UNpack it. LZX funtions are also in the Archives-menu. If LZX won't pack, it means that you do not have enough memory for packing. Shut down one or more programs or just reboot. This should help (although I can not imagine that there are KS 3.+ machines with less than 2 Meg mem, so memory shouldn't be any problem). 8. FastJPEG 1.10 AGA (Copyright Christoph Feck, TowerSystems) : The name says it: a fast JPEG picture viewer. Included is the AGA version. The complete program is available at almost any PD Bulletin Board. If you want to see a .JPG picture do NOT double-click on the filename, but select the picture and use the 'View JPG' from the Files-menu. 9. Powerpacker Patcher V1.1 (Copyright 1991, Michael Berg) : This util makes it possible to load and unpack Powerpacked files. If you want to hear a powerpacked module, choose 'Load PP' from the Files- menu and double-click on the module you want to hear and it will be unpacked and be played. If you run other programs and PowerpackerPatcher is on, they will also be able to load powerpacked files. To unpack a PP-file, copy it from the Source directory to the Destination directory and it will automatically be unpacked for you. If you want to copy the complete PP-file without being unpacked, choose 'Quit PP' from the Files-menu. That's all. If you want to use it in a shell, just type 'PowerpackerP' and it is on. An other 'PowerpackerP' will terminate it. * notes: - It uses the (included) Powerpacker.library V 35 or higher. - Turning PowerpackerPatcher on and off again many times may couse your system to crash. Complaints can be made to the programmer of PowerpackerPatcher. 10. Killclick 2 (by Daniel Martin) : KillClick2 stops the annoying clicking sound on version KickStart V36 or greater. KillClick2 is based on KillClick, written by Brian Gontowski. It is automatically activated at startup. You can also use it (if you didn't boot with this package) in a shell. Just type 'Diskmaster:c/killclick2' and after a few seconds the clicking noises will stop. The original version can also be used on a KS 2.0 machine but is not included and does not work on multiple drive machines. 11. MakeFastMem : MakeFastMem is a little program that changes a chunk of ChipRAM to FastRAM. At least the OS is fooled to believe that. The reason for doing this is because some people (programmers) believs that they MUST ask for FastRAM, and believe that the user always has that. That is really stupid, and has caused problems for a number of people with 1 Mb ChipRAM for example. In Diskmaster in the Control-menu are three sizes of fastmem you can choose from. If you want more or another size, use the 'Shell' from the Project-menu and type 'Makefastmem xxxxxx', where the xxxx stand for the amount of fastmem you want. That is all you have to do. 12. KingCon V1.3 (Copyright © 1993,1994 David Larsson) : KingCon is a very good replacement for the (oldfashioned and outdated) Shell from Commodore Amiga. This window will be used (in this package) as a display window. It's really handy for long LHA-filelists. Use the right slidebar on the window to review the list. It has a lot of new features, like: - Reviewbuffer - Complete-filename/command option - Iconify - Minimize/maximize in size with one button - Screenchange and more...... For the complete package call your nearest (Public Domain) Bulletin Board or ask your contacts. 13. AbortCommand : This little program will end programs that got stuck in a loop. It can be very annoying if you are editting something and want to try out a new demo or something (PC eat your hart out: this is what we call REAL multi- tasking) and suddenly the demo won't stop. All you have to do is open a shell and type 'AbortCommand'. This will open a small window asking which CLI you want to abort. If the number doesn't exist it will let you know. Very easy actually. Before using this program you can check which programs are active by using the 'Status' command in a CLI (not included in this package). Soooooo that's all folks... Enjoy the package. This package can ofcourse be expanded to fit your own needs, but then you will need a HardDisk (you should see my config!). If you want to have it on your HD, just copy all the files into their proper directories and your off. Don't forget to edit the S:Startup.DM after the installation. If you don't it will ask for the Diskmaster disk. In the config just replace 'Diskmaster3.01:' with your path(s). Greetings from The Sorcerer and until a next time...... PS.
