MT-Copy Startup Multi Tasking Copy (MT-Copy) can only be started from Workbench. Insert the MT-Copy disk into drive 0 and switch your computer on. The Workbench will be loaded automatically. Double click the MT-Copy disk and double click the MT-Copy icon. After a few seconds a small window will appear in the upper left corner of the screen. In that window there's a gadget with the text "Activate". Remove all disks, wait until all the drive lights are off (including the light of the harddrive) and click in the Activate gadget. THE AMIGA MODEL 1200 HAS A DIFFERENT KEYBOARD. MULTI TASKING COPY TURN OFF THE SYSTEM AND CONTROLS THE WHOLE MACHINE. THE AMIGA 1200 KEYBOARD IS NOT SUPPORTED (YET). THEREFORE YOU SHOULD NOT USE THE KEYBOARD WHILE IN THE PROGRAM. IT MAY CRASH OR RESET THE COMPUTER. @endnode @node MenusGeneral "Menu's and Screens General" 2.1. MT-Copy Logo The top of the screen shows the MT-Copy logo. This part of the screen is always visible, except when a system request is displayed. The box in the upper left corner is the QUIT BOX. Keycombination Right Amiga Q or ESC ESC). The LOGO itself is a large box. Clicking here or pressing HELP will get you to the @{"Main Menu" link MenusMain}. The box in the upper right corner displays the TIME in the format HH:MM. If your Amiga does not have a hardware clock the time will not be valid. Probably 00:00 will be displayed. Just below the time box, the AVAILABLE MEMORY is displayed. It displays the number of Kilobytes that is still available within the program. When the program is copying this amount may decrease because of the softtrack system, do not be worried about that. Just below the logo part, there are two red lines. Between these lines are the summaries of the processes that are currently running. This means that when you start a copy operation, it will say so between these lines. By clicking on the line (or pressing the process number key) you will get more @{"information" link MenusInformation} about that process. @endnode @node MenusRequests "Menu's and Screens System Requests" 2.3. System Requests Sometimes a system request appears at the top of the screen. You MUST answer such a request before you can proceed. Keycombination for left gadget is left Amiga V, for right gadget is left Amiga B. @endnode @node MenusMain "Menu's and Screens Main Menu" 2.4. Main Menu In the Main Menu you can select 4 of the 6 options. @{"Disk -> File" link MenusDiskToFile} and @{"File -> File" link MenusFileToFile} are not implemented yet. @{"Disk -> Disk" link MenusDiskToDisk} will get you to the Disk -> Disk menu. In this menu you can copy (parts of) disks, check disks (for viruses), compare disks and format disks. Keycombination F1. With the option RAMdrive + you can add a extremely fast diskdrive in you system memory. This RAMdrive is not the same as an Amigados RAD:. A RAMdrive can only be used in MT-Copy, a RAD: can not be used in MT-Copy. If you want to make a diskcopy and only have one diskdrive, you should add a RAMdrive and copy to and from this RAMdrive. Keycombination F4. You can only create up to 3 RAMdrives. Every RAMdrive takes 935 KByte of memory. This means that if you 'only' have 2 MByte of memory and you create a RAMdrive, you will only be able to partially use the @{"Softtrack system" link MenusInformation}. With the option RAMdrive - you can delete the RAMdrive you created last (the RAMdrive with the highest number). Keycombination F5. @{"System Information" link MenusSysInfo} will take you to the System Information Screen. Here you can read information about the program, it's creators and the disks you processed. Keycombination F6. @endnode @node MenusDiskToDisk "Menu's and Screens Disk -> Disk Menu" 2.5. Disk -> Disk Menu In the Disk -> Disk Menu you can copy, check, compare and format (parts of) disks. You can also ask information about a disk. By clicking Start or pressing right Amiga S you startup a process with the current settings. If one or more settings are not correct, a @{"system request" link MenusRequests} will appear. The text to the right of the startbutton tells the source/destination selection mode. This can be: - Normal: this means you will have to select the source and/or destination drives; - S/D: if this option is active, the Amiga will automatically select the Source and Destination drives. A write protected disk will result in a source, an unprotected disk in a destination. The program does not turn on verification, you will have to do that manually; - Auto: this means you will have to select the source and/or destination drives. The big difference between Normal and Auto is, that after a 'normal' process is done, the process is removed. After an 'auto' process is done, it will wait for new disks and restart the process with the original settings. The text to the right of the source/destination selection mode tells the current operation setting. This can be: - Copy: this will copy tracks from a source to all destinations; - Format: this will format tracks on all destinations; - Quickformat: this will format only the boottrack and roottrack on all destinations; - Compare: this will compare tracks on a source with a destination; - Check: this will check tracks on a source. To the right of the operation setting is the track setting. The first three digits represent the starting track and side, the second three digits the ending track and side. A whole disk occupies track 00.0 - 79.1. Below the menu header are the drives. From left to right there are up to 7 diskdrives (0-6) and up to 3 RAMdrives (0-2). By clicking on a drive you will get information about the disk in that drive. Keycombination Shift plus number of drive (add 7 for RAMdrives). Above and below each drive there is a circel. If the circel is unselected, it is grey. A selected circel above a drive is green and means the drive is a source. You can select/unselect a drive by clicking in this circel or pressing Alt plus number of drive (add 7 for RAMdrives). A selected circel below a drive is red and means the drive is a source. If you want the destination verified, you can click on the circel or press Alt Shift plus number of drive (add 7 for RAMdrives) and a big V will appear in the circel. Clicking there again will turn off the destination. If you cannot turn a source or destination on or off, you probably have the option S/D active. To solve this program, change S/D in Normal or Auto. @endnode @node MenusInformation "Menu's and Screens Information" 2.6. Information Whenever a process is completed or aborted the information screen of that process will appear. It will also appear when you click on the process line or press Shift plus the processnumber. In this screen you get information that is specific for this process. At the top center of the information screen you can find the text of the process line. This is usefull when you have more than one process running. Below that on the left the disk format or @{"MT-Copy Name" link ExtrasTestMT} is displayed, on the right the AmigaDOS diskname is displayed. If the source disk contains a virus, it will say so in the left textbox. Also the background color will be red instead of blue. Thanks to Safe Hex International (read SHI-text) MT-Copy checks all disks without delay for bootviruses and fileviruses (linkviruses). If you have found a virus which is not recognized by MT-Copy, then contact SHI. The larger part of the screen is taken by three big matrixes. The first (the left) displays the tracks read. A filled cel means the track is read without errors. A cel half filled (checkered) means the track was still present in memory (RAM) and read from it. This is made possible with the Softtrack System. Once a track has been read, MT-Copy will remember it until you remove the disk from the drive. If you have a diskdrive that can not detect when a disk is changed you should disable this option by changing the @{"icon option" link IconSettings} Softtracks. A number means the track contains an error. The number reflects the type of error: - 1: Sync ($4489) not found; - 2: Track is not AmigaDOS; - 3: There are not 11 blocks with AmigaDOS sync; - 4: Wrong track; - 5: Error in blocknumber (>11 or <0); - 6: Checksum error in data block; - 7: Checksum error in block header; - 8: Coding error, MFM coding is not correct. This is the most common error with bad disks - 9: Gap error (too big or too small) The last thing you may find in a cel is a cross. This means the track has been corrupted by the Saddam Virus. Use the command Fixsaddam to repair the disk. The second (middle) matrix shows which blocks are used and unused. What you see there is called the Block Allocation Map (BAM). An open cel means that no blocks on the track are used. A filled cel means all 11 blocks on the tracks are used. When the matrix is completely empty, this means the BAM information has not been loaded (yet) or was not valid. The third (right) matrix shows which tracks are written and verified. A half filled cel (checkered) means the track has been written but not verified. A filled cel means the track has been written and verified. A number means a write error has occured on a destination. The number shows the drive on which the error was discovered. If there are errors on multiple destinations a dash (-) will appear. There are three button on the screen: More Info, Use BAM and Cancel. @{"More Info" link MenusMoreInfo} will get you to the More Information Screen. There you will find more (written) information about every operation that was applied on every track of the process. Keycombination right Amiga M. With the button Use BAM you can activate a special mode. After you activated it MT-Copy will only process the tracks that are used. You can only activate this mode after the BAM has been read. Keycombination right Amiga B. Cancel will abort the current process. You will also need this cancel button if you want to remove a process that was started with the Auto-setting. You can recognize the auto setting by the asterix (*) at the end of the @{"process line" link MenusLogo}. Keycombination right Amiga C. @endnode @node MenusMoreInfo "Menu's and Screens More Information" 2.7. More Information In the More Info screen you can get a more detailed description of the current process. The process (for example copy tracks 00.0-79.1 from df0: to df1:) is converted to a scriptfile (for example read track 00.0, read track 00.0, write 00.0, etc.). Every step in this scriptfile is logged here. Also, if an error is encountered you will find a better specification of it in this section. The left part of the screen is the text window. To the right is the text slider. From top to bottom the functions are: Start of text, up one line, one page up or down, one line down, end of text. You can also use the keys of the numeric keyboard. Key 8 means one line up, key 2 means one line down. Key 9 means one page up, key 3 one page down. Key 7 means start of text, key 1 end of text. Amiga model 600 does not have a numeric keyboard. Because of that it is also possible to use the main keyboard. To do this, press Caps Lock. After that the keys I, O, P, K, L, :, ,, ., / emulate 7, 8, 9, 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3. @endnode @node MenusKeyboard "Menu's and Screens Keyboard Screen" 2.8. Keyboard Screen Whenever you start a format process this screen will appear. You can type or 'click' the volumename here. To actually start the process press or click Return. To abort the process press or click escape. This menu will not appear if the tracks to be formatted do not cover track 40.0. @endnode @node MenusSysInfo "Menu's and Screen System Information" 2.9. System Information In the System Information screen you will find 3 blocks of information. The first block contains information about the creators of the program and where to send money for further development. The second block contains information about your diskdrives. It will tell you the speed of a diskdrive. It will only do so after you have written some data (tracks) to a disk in this (or these) drives. The third block displays the names of the first 99 disks you use. @endnode @node IconSettings "Icon Settings" 3. Icon Settings In the icon of MT-Copy there are some settings you may want to change. LANGUAGE= With this line you can set the language to American, Dutch, Germal or Spanish. SOFTTRACKS= With this line you can turn the softtrack system on or off. If you have a diskdrive that does not properly detect an inserted disk you may want to turn this option off READRETRIES=<0/1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9> This line determines how many times MT-Copy will retry to read a track after an error has been encountered. You should set this option to at least 1. VERIFYRETRIES=<0/1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9> This line determines how many times MT-Copy will retry to read a destination track after an error has been encountered. VERIFYEMPTYTRACK= With this line you can determine whether empty tracks should be verified on destination disks or not. When you use disks that you have used before or disks that you have already formatted, verifying empty tracks should not be necessary. BOOTINSTALLED= With this line you determine whether MT-Copy will install a disk during formatting or not. DOSTYPE=<0/5> With this line you determine what dostype is during Format. 0 = Traditional Amiga file system. It has 488 bytes of data per block. 5 = This is the directory-caching version of DOS\3 (FFS). It stores 512 bytes per block, and runs substantially faster than DOS\0. Other dostypes (DOS\1, DOS\2, DOS\3, DOS\4) are not available. SETDURINGOPERATION= If you turn this option on, it means that the program setting S/D will also check for sources and destinations during operation. AUTODURINGOPERATION= If you turn this option on, it means that MT-Copy will also check for disk changes while there are other processes in operation. @endnode @node Extras "Extra's General" 4.1. Extra's General There are two extra tools included with MT-Copy. These are @{"TestMT" link ExtrasTestMT} and @{"SetMT" link ExtrasSetMT}. You will find these commands in the C directory. @endnode @node ExtrasTestMT "Extra's TestMT" 4.2. TestMT With TestMT you can check whether it is safe to use @{"SetMT" link ExtrasSetMT}. Syntax: TestMT DFx: Where x is 0, 1, 2 or 3. You need to insert the disk you want to check before you run the command. @endnode @node ExtrasSetMT "Extra's SetMT" 4.3. SetMT SetMT is used to put a MT-Copy name on a disk. BE VARY CAREFULL WITH THIS PROGRAM. If you use it on game disks that have there own loader it may destroy the game. Use @{"TestMT" link ExtrasTestMT} to see if it's safe to use SetMT. Syntax: SetMT DFx: "name" Where x is 0, 1, 2 or 3 and name is the name you want to give to the disk. You MUST use the double quotes (").
