HARDWARE - EXPANSION: CYCLONE V - THE XCOPY TWIN SYSTEM CYCLONE V - XCOPY'S TWIN SYSTEM is a coproduction of ANGUILLA SOFTWARE INTERNATIONAL and RICHARD APLIN. The exclusive distributor is CACHET. Claus Peter Lippert of CACHET also has power of attorney to act on be- half of ASI. The hardware and the software to control it have been developed by Richard Aplin, Alf Maier, Chris Allen, Claus Lippert & Eric Reinhart. The reason we developed this hardware was to enable people who spend a lot of money on ORIGINALS to back up the programs they buy. When you use our CYCLONE V to create a backup of your ORIGINAL, you will find, that in most cases you cannot copy the BACKUP disk any further. The reason is, that we only support to back up originals. Also you will find, that the BACKUP is still copy protected. This is, because we do not want to support software piracy in any way. Finally you have to accept, that because of technical reasons, you must only use new disks as backup-disks, or WIPE old disks (using XCOPY or CYCLONE) before using them. We could have changed most of the above, but we like it the way it is. The reason is, it does not effect somebody, who just wants to back up his own ORIGINAL, but it makes life harder for software pirates. SOFTWARE PIRACY IS A CRIME AND HURTS THE SOFTWARE COMPANIES AS WELL AS IT HURTS YOU AND ME, BECAUSE IT MEANS THAT A LOT OF COMPANIES HAVE TO STOP DEVELOPING GOOD SOFTWARE, BECAUSE IT DOES NOT PAY OFF. Anyway, you must only use this hardware as and if the law in your country allows you to use it. MANUAL: IMPORTANT: THE NEW HARDWARE IS AUTOSWITCHABLE. PLUG IT IN ONCE AND YOU CAN LEAVE IT PLUGGED IN ALL THE TIME. CYCLONE WILL DETECT THE NEW HARDWARE AND SWITCH IT ON AND OFF. THIS SHOULD MAKE THE USE OF IT MUCH EASIER. THEREFORE YOU CAN START AT STEP 7. IN THE MANUAL BELOW - YOU CAN ENTER AND LEAVE CYCLONE FROM/TO WORKBENCH AT ANY TIME NOW. You start the program which runs the software per ICON. To do this you have to follow our instructions carefully. 1. Switch off your Amiga and wait a few seconds (approx. 20 sec.). 2. Disconnect all external drives. 3. Plug in the hardware in the port, where you usually plug in your external drives. 4. Plug the external drive which you want to use as the target drive into the hardware. Do not connect more than one external drive (OLD HARDWARE ONLZ). To run CYCLONE V on the A2000 also requires an EXTERNAL disk drive. 5. Switch on your Amiga. 6. Boot Kickstart (only Amiga 1000). 7. Insert CYCLONE V disk in any drive. 8. Select CYCLONE. 9. When CYCLONE V appears on the screen, take the CYCLONE V - disk out of the internal drive. Read the message at the bottom of the screen. If you use an A2000 press S to switch to DF0: DF2:. 10. Select the nibble mode you want to choose with the space bar. If you back up a DOS DISK you can press V for VERIFY (NEW HARDWARE ONLY). 11. Put the new unformatted target disk in the external drive. 12. Put the ORIGINAL, which you want to back up in the internal drive. Make sure, the write-protect is set on the original. 13. Use the cursor keys to set start- and endtrack. 14. After having finished all the above, now press return. CYCLONE V will now commence the backup process. 15. When the BACKUP is done, please take the ORIGINAL and the BACKUP out of the drives. In case you have to back up more than one ORIGINAL repeat the steps 11 - 15 until you are done. 16. Switch off your Amiga 17. Unplug the hardware. Some hints and things you should keep in mind: THE COLORED DOTS: press HELP and SPACE BAR for explanation. Then ESC. Target disks: NEW, UNFORMATTED or WIPED UNPLUG hardware after using it, but switch off Amiga first! (ONLY IF YOU STILL USE THE OLD HARDWARE WHICH IS NOT AUTOSWITCHABLE) Source-drive is always the internal drive Tagret drive is always the external drive (also with A2000!) Before using the hardware, do a speed test at your drives. The closer the speed of both drives is, the better the hardware works. APWM & APWM NIBBLE should only be used for single tracks. If you use XCOPY NIBBLE for the complete disk first and then APWM for single tracks, you will be more sucessfull. If you have any further questions, please give us a call, before using the hardware.
