If you make a backup disk, ensure the correct name before starting the installation program!!! GENERAL This software package has been developed to operate Mitsumi CD-ROM drives with the Amiga series of computers. These drives were developed for use with IBM compatible computers. With an apropriate interface, these drives will work with your Amiga, too! The Mitsumi drives are low cost, industry standard drives. They allow MultiSession and Mode2/1 (Photo-CD) access. The FX-001D is a double speed drive with a data transfer rate of up to 300 kByte/s and an integrated sector buffer of 64 kByte. I recommend the FX-001D as the best choice for the TandemCD package, however all other Mitsumi CD-ROM drives will work, too. The supplied software device driver is able to access all drive features like double speed, Audio playback, PhotoCD mode and multisession support without any user interaction. It will automatically switch to double speed transfer, if a drive capable of this mode is present. It will map disks with multiple sessions to one single session. No special "Multi session" filesystem is required, you may use (aside from the wonderful CacheCDFS supplied) any of the popular CDROM filesystems like the Commodore CDFileSystem or the BabelCDROMFS. REQUIREMENTS You need a Mitsumi CD-ROM drive (LU005S, FX001S or FX001D), a bsc interface card with cable, and an Amiga 600/1200/2000/3000/4000 computer running Kickstart and Workbench version 2.04 or later with at least 1MB RAM. A Harddisk is highly recommended. INSTALLATION For flawless installation a program is supplied for this purpose. First setup your CD-ROM drive as described in the hardware manual supplied by bsc. IF THE CD-ROM DRIVE IS NOT CONNECTED PROPERLY AND IS NOT POWERED UP, THE SOFTWARE WILL NOT INSTALL!! It is not required, that a CD is present in the drive. Now boot your Amiga as you usually would. Insert the TandemCD disk in any drive and double-click on the Install-TandemCD icon. The software will now automatically install itself on your harddrive or startup - floppydisk. The installation procedure is interactive, and extensive online help is available. After the installation process is complete, you should reboot your machine. Now your new CD-ROM drive should be fully operational. FILES IN THIS PACKAGE - tandemcd.device Exec device driver for bsc TandemCD board (A2000/3000/4000) - tandemcd_pcmcia.device Exec device driver for bsc TandemCD PCMCIA interface card (A600/1200) - tandemcd_come.device Exec device driver for modified bsc AT2008/508 AT-Bus controller (A500/2000/3000/4000) The installation program will install the correct device driver automatically. - TandemCacheCDFS ISO9660 file system (DOS device driver), providing a sophisticated caching system offering a n-set associated cache. This FileSystem is restricted for use with the Tandem package, a full version for any cdrom device with additional support for RockRidge and MAC HFS file systems is available directly from Elaborate Bytes: Elaborate Bytes, Oliver Kastl Bisdorfer Weg 7 53332 Bornheim - CDFSprefs This program is a preferences editor for the CacheCDFS. It allows you to change the settings for the file system without struggeling with your CLI, Dos editor and the mountlists. For proper operation, the filesystem MUST be installed with the supplied installation program! - KillDev This program belongs to the CacheCDFS. It allows you to completely unmount your CD-ROM from the system. If the FileSystem is still in use (e.g. there are open files on a disc, or you have opened the volume) KillDev will print an error message. - PlayCD A tiny Audio Disc player. It offers repeat play, volume adjust (FX001 only), track programming, shuffle play. - playcd.font PlayCD can use an own font for its display. However, if you don't want to copy the PlayCD font files to your fonts: directory, you may instruct the installation program to do so. PlayCD will look for its font, if the font can't be found, it will use topaz 8 instead. - EjectCD Opens a small window with an eject button for FX001 drives, because the Eject button is a bit misplaced under the CD-tray. It is useless with LU005 drives. - FindCD This program is used only during the installation process. It creates two environment variables, CDROM_Device and CDROM_Unit. These are only useful during the installation. END OF DOCUMENT
