## Loading samples

	To  load samples in memory click on the corresponding sample
	gadget and select it with the file requester.

	A maximum of 20 samples of any size can be loaded. 

	You  can select up to 20 samples per time.  NOTE:  after the
	20th  sample the 21th will be loaded on the 1st, the 22th on
	the 2nd, and so on.

	Samples  will  be loaded from the sample gadget you selected
	onwards.

	Note:   if  a  playing-sample  is encountered the next files
	will not be loaded and you will be signed of this event.

	Loading  routine  will  load  samples giving priority to the
	FastMem to avoid ChipMem shortages.

	Actually are supported both the IFF standard that RAW files.

	There  are  several  controls  that  are  not  included with
	panels, they are:

	  A  slider  gadget  that  controls  the  master  volume.  All
	  samples volumes depends from this slider.

	· @{b}Volume sliders@{ub}

	  One volume slider for each sample is available to change the
	  sample  volume.   Range  of  this  slider  depends on master
	  volume value.

	· @{b}Status bar@{ub}

	  To  the left bottom side of the screen, is the actual status
	  of  the  program.   Useful  to  know  the  actual  status of
	  operations & activities.

	· @{b}Channels status@{ub}

	  A  graphical  tool  to  see  what  channels are used in that
	  moment.

	· @{b}Pitch bar@{ub}

	  A graphical pitch display of the selected sample.

	· @{b}Samples' name@{ub}

	  In  addition  to  the  up  and  down cursor use the mouse to
	  select the desired sample.

	· @{b}Status panel@{ub}

	  A  little  window to display most important variables of the
	  program.

	  From top to bottom:

	  - Module:

	    Current loaded module name.

	  - SList:

	    Current active samples' list name.

	  - Filter:

	    Current status of the low pass filter.

	  - Memory:

	    Current amount of total free memory.

	  - Pitch:

	    Selected  sample  pitch  value  with  specification of which
	    sample has been selected.

## Misc Panel

	  This gadget switches on/off the low pass filter or better to
	  say, the POWER LED.

	· @{b}[BACKW]@{ub}

	  To  reverse  the  sample  is  the  function  of this gadget.
	  Reversing will be done on the selected sample.

	· @{b}[FADE]@{ub}

	  This  function  is  used  in  conjuction  with  other screen
	  gadgets.  So this brief explanation is not sufficient to use
	  it.  By pressing here you will activate the auto-fading of a
	  sample, the selected one.

	  Other parameters are necessary to fade a sample; look at the
	  right  side  of  the selected sample name, you will notice a
	  number.   This  number  is  a delay between each step of the
	  sample  volume  slider.   Increase  it and the sample fading
	  will  be  more slow.  As same as increasing, decreasing will
	  make  the  fading  more  fast.   This 'speed number' must be
	  included between 0 and 999.

	  Another  parameter  in necessary to perform the auto-fading;
	  the  direction of fading.  To the right side of our previous
	  number  there  is  a cycle gadget specifing the direction of
	  the fading.

	  Simply  to  use,  it  can assume only two values:  UP n' DN.
	  Obviously  the  first  is  to fade volume from silent to the
	  current  value  and the other is to fade volume from current
	  value to silent.

	  NOTE:   The  auto-fading function works asyncronously giving
	  you  the  possibility to perform all program actions without
	  taking care of it.

	· @{b}[SYNCH]@{ub}

	  This  is one of the best functions of Soundy.  It is able to
	  synchronize  samples  between  them  without losing precious
	  time to do the same work by hand.

	  Samples  are  different and this function will not work 100%
	  of  times.   Do not use it when performing on parties!  It's
	  useful when you are organizing samples to try new effects or
	  mixes. 

	  Samples are synchronized with this procedure:

	  Can  be  multiple  destination  samples but only one source.
	  Result  of  operation  will  be that all destination samples
	  will be synchronized with the source.

	  Example of operation:

	  1) Load at minimum 2 samples

	  2) Click on the [SYNCH] gadget

	  3) Now click on the first sample just loaded (operate on the
	     name of the sample). This will set the source pitch  that
	     will  synchronize  the  pitch  of  the  second sample  to
	     the rate of the first

	  4) Click on the second sample

	  5) Click another time on the [SYNCH] gadget

	  Now the samples are synchronized to the same speed

	  NOTE:  Only the destination sample pitch will be changed

	  To  synchronize  more  samples click more of one destination
	  and follow the same procedure.


	  IF YOU WRONG SOMETHING:

	  By   clicking   on  samples  previously  selected  you  will
	  deactivate them; useful to correct your selection mistakes.

	  HINT:

	  If  you  are synchronizing rhytmics samples you must cut the
	  beginning of the samples to the beat that starts the sample.
	  Doing  so  you  can  be  sure  of  an  excellent  result  of
	  synchronizement.   Demo  samples  provided  with  Soundy are
	  cutted with this method.

	· @{b}[FREE]@{ub}

	  Picking  this  gadget you will free from memory the selected
	  sample.

## Pitch Panel

	  This  gadget  activates  a function to bend the sample pitch
	  with  mouse.   Once pressed the gadget you may move mouse up
	  n' down to change the pitch value.  A status bar will report
	  in  realtime  the sample pitch.  This function simulates the
	  bender joystick of all common keyboards.  To deactivate this
	  function hit one of the ALT keys.  NOTE:  Mouse pointer will
	  disappear  when bending sample.  Also note that you can play
	  any other sample while bending.

	· @{b}[BT :2]@{ub}

	  This function halves the sample beats (acts on pitch value)

	· @{b}[BT x2]@{ub}

	  This function double the sample beats (acts on pitch value)

	· @{b}[DEF]@{ub}

	  By  pressing  this  gadget you will reset pitch value to the
	  first time loaded value.

## Smps' List Panel

	  This  gadget  will  pop  up  a  file requester to choose the
	  samples'  list  to  activate.  Remember to put the string of
	  recognization  of  the samples' list otherwise an error will
	  occur.

	· @{b}[NEXT BANK]@{ub}

	  Clicking  on this gadget the samples' list will advance from
	  the  previous  STOP  command.  NOTE:  If a playing sample is
	  encountered  the  samples'list  will stop loading.  Once you
	  press again this gadget, loading will advance from here, not
	  from the previous or the next STOP command.

	· @{b}[OFF]@{ub}

	  This gadget deactivates the samples' list currently active.

	· @{b}[RANGE]@{ub}

	  This gadget allows to change current  sample's  list
	  range displaying a nice requester.  For  more  infos
	  about samples' list ranges refer to the @{" scripting " Link "Using_scripts"}
	  section.

## Touch Panel

	  By  changing  this  slider  you can set the delay before the
	  auto-restart-function takes place.

	  Range from 1 to 99 (a value of 50 is equal to 1 second)

	  By  changing  this slider you can set the delay between each
	  repetition of the auto-restart-function.

	  Range from 1 to 99 (a value of 50 is equal to 1 second)

	· @{b}[SLIDER A]@{ub}

	  By  changing this slider you can adjust the [SLIDER R] value
	  to a fine value.

	  Range from 0 to 99 (adjustment only)


	From  the left to the right are represented the three values
	of the three sliders respectively from the top to the bottom
	of the panel.


	Purpose:

	This  effect  is  the  main  feature  of  many  professional
	samplers.   By pressing the corresponding keypad '[' and ']'
	keys  you will notice that between each sample restart there
	is  no  silence.   So,  the  purpose  of this function is to
	eliminate  the  sound  lack  between  repetitions.   Another
	important  feature  of this function is to repeat the sample
	with a certain repeat rate; this, if you let the key pressed
	a  bit.   Do  not spent your time to do it by hand, pressing
	and releasing keys rithmically!

	  pro-tracker  module  to  load.   Be careful to what you have
	  selected!   Soundy  is  not  able  to  recognize if what you
	  selected is a pro-tracker module or not!  So I not guarantee
	  the  system functionality if you select PLAY with that piece
	  of file!

	  Frees   the   current   module   from   memory   asking  for
	  confirmation.

	· @{b}[PLAY]@{ub}

	  Starts playing module in memory.

	  Note:  samples that were in playing will immediately go back
	  to  their  playing  status  after  you  click  on the [STOP]
	  gadget.

	· @{b}[STOP]@{ub}

	  Stops playing module in memory.

	The  first  cycle  gadget  is the default load mode.  It can
	assume these values:

	  Used to play the sample two times

	Usually more than three times looping does not need.


	The  second  cycle  gadget  is the default play mode.  It can
	assume these values:

	· @{b}[STEREO]@{ub}

	  Refer to @{" playmodes " Link "Using_playmodes"} section.

	The  third   cycle  gadget  is the default file type.  It can
	assume these values:

	· @{b}[AUTO]@{ub}

	  This   flag   will   activate   the  auto-sample-recognition
	  function.   Soundy  will  automatically detect which type of
	  loading method is required to read selected samples.

	  NOTE:   Raw  samples  cannot  be  auto-recognized so set the
	  cycle gadget to the specified RAW sample type.

	· @{b}[IFF8]@{ub}

	  Refer to @{" filetypes " Link "Using_filetypes"} section.

	· @{b}[RAW8]@{ub}

## Keypad

	Numeric  pad  is  provided  with  9  keys  relative  to nine
	numbers,  this,  excluding the 0 key.  Now, think to have on
	the  fifth key the selected sample at the actual pitch rate.
	From  this, onward & backward, think to have the same sample
	with  different pitches...  but how much different?  Easy to
	say,  previous  pitch  value  plus or minus the KEYPAD_RANGE
	value.   The  pitch  value you are playing on that sample is
	the result of this formula:

	New_Pitch = Def_Pitch + [ ( Keypad_Key_Value - 5 ) * (-10) ]

	Example:

	Actual pitch: 147
	Keypad range: 10

	By pressing keypad keys you will have this result:

## Filetypes

	Soundy  handles  different  types  of  samples, let's see in
	detail:

	· @{b}IFF8@{ub}

	  This  is  the  more  diffused  samples'  standard around the
	  Amiga's  world.   Any  Amiga program that uses audio handles
	  this standard.

	· @{b}RAW8@{ub}

	  This  is  a  RAW  format,  and  as  raw  format  it can't be
	  classified.   To  restrict  the  group of raw formats we can
	  classify  it  as  an IFF8 sample without the IFF information
	  header.

	  NOTE:

	  On  RAW  samples  playing speed can't be known, so a default
	  speed is assumed to be correct.

	· @{b}RAW16@{ub}

	  This  is  another  RAW format, and as raw format it can't be
	  classified.   To  restrict  the  group of raw formats we can
	  classify  it  as an IFF16 sample without the IFF information
	  header.    These  files  can  be  produced  by  professional
	  keyboards or by sophisticated 16 bit audio-cards.

	· @{b}VOC@{ub}

	  This   is   the   standard  file  format  of  Sound  Blaster
	  soundfiles.    These  files  are  diffused  on  the  IBM  PC
	  computers.

		This  option  displays  the  information  about  the
		authors of the program itself.

		Acting on this option you  will  exit  from  Soundy.
		A confirm must be done  for  this  DANGEROUS option!

	· @{b}Change Palette@{ub}

		You don't like  colors  we've  choosed  for  Soundy?
		Change them with this function!

	· @{b}Flange Range@{ub}

		This option allows to change  current  flange  range
		displaying  a   nice   requester.   For  more  infos
		about the  flange range  refer  to  the @{" playmodes " Link "Using_playmodes"}
		section.

	· @{b}Keypad Range@{ub}

		This option allows to change  current  keypad  range
		displaying  a   nice   requester.   For  more  infos
		about  the  keypad  range  refer  to  the  @{" keypad " Link "Using_keypad"}
		section.

	· @{b}Clear all samples@{ub}

		This   option  allows  to  delete  all  samples  in
		one shot. Playing samples will be skipped.

## Playmodes

	Soundy  has  different  ways  to  play samples, let's see in
	detail:

	· @{b}MONO@{ub}

	  This playmode will play a maximum of four samples per time.

	  NOTE:

	  With  this playmode you have need of the @{" special cable " Link "Using_special_cable"} to
	  make  your  Amiga able to play always on both audiochannels.
	  If  you haven't  the cable installed  you will listen to the
	  samples on a single audiochannel.

	· @{b}STEREO@{ub}

	  This  playmode  will  play a maximum of two samples per time
	  placing  them  in  a manner that the Amiga will play them in
	  stereo.

	  NOTE:

	  With  this playmode you have no need of the @{" special cable " Link "Using_special_cable"}
	  to  make  your   Amiga   able   to   play   always  on  both
	  audiochannels. If  you  have  the  cable  installed you will
	  listen to the samples at twice volume.

	· @{b}FLANGE@{ub}

	  This  playmode  will  play a maximum of two samples per time
	  placing  them in a manner that the Amiga will play them with
	  a flange effect.

	  NOTE:

	  This  playmode  requires a value to be set.  This value will
	  determine  the  flange  depth of the sample.  You can set it
	  automatically  with  the  samples'  list  or  with  the item
	  "Flange Range" placed on the "Miscellaneous" menu.

	  Principle of operation:

	  To  create  the  flange  effect Soundy plays a sample on two
	  audiochannels  with  a  "Range".   This "Range" it's a pause
	  that  Soundy  waits  before to play the 2nd time the sample;
	  the  same  sample  that  was  started to the pression of the
	  corrisponding key.

## Keyboard control

	A  lot  of  key  shortcuts are available on Soundy; starting
	from  menu shortcuts that are displayed on the right side of
	each  menu item to arrive to the gadget ones that are signed
	with a line under the gadget shortcut letter.

	Special keys not reported on the screen are documented here:

	SPACEBAR  - Switches the current sample volume between 0 and
	            his max.

	ARROWS    - With Up/Dn arrows you can  select  samples  that
	            will be used successively for other  operations.

	            With Rg/Lf arrows you can do a  fine  regulation
	            to the sample pitch.

	DEL       - Same function of [DEF] gadget.

	ALTs      - Same function of [BENDER] gadget.

	SHIFTes   - Are used to select multiple files  on  the  file
	            requester.

	BACKSPACE - Same function of [FREE] gadget.

	KEYPAD '+'- Same function of [BT x2] gadget

	KEYPAD '-'- Same function of [BT :2] gadget

	KEYPAD '['- Used in conjuction with the Touch panel

	KEYPAD ']'- Used in conjuction with the Touch panel

	            Last two key are used to act on the sample start.
	            Their function is the same but two keys are used
	            to be more finger friendly.

	KEYPAD '/'- Used to stop the sample in conjuction with the
	            Touch effect

	NUM. PAD  - All numeric pad keys are used to form a little
	            keyboard with 9 pitches of the sample sample

	NOTE:

	With  the  word  'selected'  we  mean  the sample that has a
	light-blue color.

## Using a Special Cable

	The  maximum  of  contemporary Amiga sounds is four, this is
	what  we know for a long time.  We know too that Amiga plays
	sounds  on  the left or the right audio channel according to
	the  selected  channel.  Now the problem is how to remedy to
	this  "audio  trouble";  For  instance you can't listen to a
	sound  on  a  single  channel!  This is because I define the
	Amiga stereo feature as a fake!

	Note  now  that Soundy will play samples randomly so...  eg:

	It's  a  text file containing a list of samples to be loaded
	in  a  certain  order  and  time.  From previous versions of
	Soundy,  samples'  lists  were  equipped with a brief set of
	commands, now Soundy can be totally controlled by the script
	to give you the maximum confort and security of operation.

	An  example  script is provided into the Soundy package.  It
	will  be  in  the <OWN>:Soundy/Samples directory if you have
	previously choosed the complete installation option from the
	Installer.

	Once  you  have  activated  the  samples'  list,  it will be
	completely     indipendant     from     your    work.     To
	activate/deactivate  the  samples'  list refer to the panels
	explanation.

	To have best results with Soundy at your party, if you chose
	to  have one, is to assemble the special cable connecting it
	outside Amiga audio channels.

	Do not spent your time to make high quality samples when you
	use  Soundy  in your private parties!  'cause the quality of
	sounds  will  not be appreciated from an high power speaker,
	so  reserve memory for a greatest quantity of samples (this,
	if your party has disco music!).

	A  good  suggestion  is  to  sample  at  high frequency (eg.
	25.5khz)   that  samples  that  represents  classic  musics,
	choirs, singers or not rythmic music.

	This  program  is  a  product  of  anger and despair.  I was
	unable  to  find a simple program that will perform realtime
	play of samples in an intellingent way.

	Who gived to me the idea to develope this software was a man
	aliased "Walter One".  A new type of DJ, nor a 1200 Technics
	system  or  something  else  was  used  but  two  FZ-1 Casio
	keyboards.  Simple, isn't it?  Believe in me, very efficent!
	With  ten  1,44Mb disks he was able to play different musics
	for more than an half hour changing sounds reflecting to the
	people response to the music.  It was a rave party and I let
	you imagine the kind of music used in.

	  Soundy  borns where the need to make this work is high and
	money to do it are few.  With any Amiga model and Soundy you
	can perform the same work of an F-Z1 Casio keyboard.

	  Soundy is a rather complex  program  which is difficult to
	maintain - especially since there is only one person to take
	care  of  it:   me.   Although  one  tries to write correct,
	bug-free  software,  one  cannot  always  achieve this goal.
	Tough  -  but  that's  life.   It  rains  when you leave the
	umbrella  at  home.   Toast  falls  buttered-side down.  The
	phone rings while you are in the bath.

	  In  case  you  come upon one of those nasty features which
	even  the author was unable to track down and remove, follow
	these steps:

	  1.  Keep calm.  Shouting, cursing, crushing disks may help
	to cool your temper, but it will not help anybody (the least
	yourself!)  if  it  results  in a sudden cardiac infarction:
	you will have problems in reporting the problem.

	  2.  Read  the  documentation!   The  bug  you may want  to
	report may be a deliberate feature.

	  3.  Repeat  previous  step  as  often  as  possible.  Yes,
	really,  do  so.   Read the documentation.  You will be glad
	you did.

	  4.  Describe  your  problem  elaborately.  A comment  like
	`things  fall down when dropped' may have inspired Sir Isaac
	Newton,  but a similarly laconic comment `playroutine do not
	work'  will most certainly fail to give any useful hints how
	to approach the problem.

	  5.  If  you  wish  to  report  a bug in the  samples' list
	script  include a sample samples' list script to produce the
	bug.

	  6.  Do not forget to write it down!  There is a difference
	between noticing a bug and reporting it (honestly!).  Do not
	suppose  that  a  bug  will  be  fixed  in  a future program
	revision  or  rely  on  anybody  else  to  report it:  do it
	yourself.   Send  a  letter  to  the  author, preferably per
	electronic  mailing  services  or  call the Soundy's support
	board.

	  7.  State your system and program configuration.  It helps
	a  lot to know on which machine the program caused problems.
	Please  include  information  such as memory expansion size,
	Amiga  model  (A500+,  A600,  A1200,  A3000,  A4000,  etc.),
	graphics  hardware  (ECS,  AGA,  etc.),  CPU  type (MC68000,
	MC68020, MC68030, MC68040, etc.).

	  8.  Report programs that were in multitasking while Soundy
	was running.

	  9.  Report all of this to author @{" address " Link "Addresses"}.

	Note to all Amiga 1200 users:

	  You  will  notice  that  Soundy  cannot  play  more than 2
	samples  per  time...   This  is  not a bug of Soundy nor an
	installation  bug...   it's  an Amiga 1200 keyboard bug!  On
	A1200  Commodore has changed the old keyboard chipset making
	it  different  from  all  Amiga models.  It's something new,
	something  shitty!   Now  on these keyboards you can't press
	more  than  2 keys per time!  Try yourself with any program!
	So don't be angry with me...
