(A list is shown at the end of this file. * ************************************************************************ -- Additions/Corrections to ColorKit Pro Manual ------------ Page 13: Default SCSI Device # The scanner may be shipped from the factory with a different device number other than five. The Install program will automatically record the actual scanner ID setting in your ColorKit Pro default file which will be used during operation of ColorKit. Page 20: Scrolling an image with the mouse When your displayed image is larger than your screen, you may also use the mouse to scroll the image. You do not need to depress either mouse button. Simply move the mouse to the edge of the screen to view the area that's hidden. You should hide the Tool menu at the bottom of the screen (using the right mouse button), to enable vertical scrolling downward using the mouse. Page 24: Keyboard Shortcuts Two keyboard shortcuts have been added that enable you to free up RAM in your system. F7 Release all resident image memory When you select F7, this will destroy the current image by releasing all the image buffers in memory. This would enable you to scan a new image which previously may have been limited. F8 Release portions of resident image to hard drive Each time that you select this option, ColorKit Pro will free up approx. 250k Ram by moving portions of the image out to the hard drive cache buffer. This would enable you to open a shell or run another small process without losing your current scanned image. Page 25-29: Calibrating your scanner The Greyscale strip MUST be placed at the 7" mark rather than at the 1" mark as shown in the manual. The values have also been expanded from 100 to 255 for each color and greyscale index. (This provides for better calibration results.) Page 27: Gamma Correction Requester A "Default" gadget has been added to this requester. Its purpose is to reset all forty-four entries to the standard default values before calibrating your scanner. Page 39: Using Pixel Mode for Video Illustration The four polymarkers which are used to size the clip box when you have selected "Pixel Mode" (and an enforced aspect ratio), are now located in the center of the clip box sides rather then in the corners. Page 40: After you have selected a pixel Aspect Ratio in step 3, your changes will take effect AFTER you take action by either sizing the clip box or clicking on one of several gadgets (width, height, dpi, or +/-). Sizing the Clip box: You may now drag any of the four sides to size the clip box. Page 42: Scan Settings Requester There is now a circular list for the Scanner Model name (MS2400, MS2400 w/transparency adapter, and MS1200). Make sure that this is set correctly to either the MS2400 or MS1200. Only owners of the transpar- ency adapter should select "MS2400-Trans" when scanning with the adapter. BRIGHTNESS AND CONTRAST The brightness and contrast sliders have different ranges for the various scanning modes. Monochrome scans can have their contrast adjusted by a range of (-30% to +40%) during the scan. Greyscale and color scans now have a range of (-90% to +100%). When switching between various scanning modes, you will notice that your last contrast setting for that mode will become the current setting. DPI: The DPI "+" and "-" arrows can now change the values by larger increments. Holding down the key while clicking on an arrow will change the values by 10 units; holding the key and pressing on the arrows will change the units by 100. INVERT: A new "Invert" gadget has been added. When this is depressed, the colors from the scanner will be inverted. The main purpose of this gadget is to use with the transparency adapter for scanning negatives. Page 47: Display Requester The "Select Display Mode" gadget was moved to the bottom of the requester in order to minimize the distance you need to move your mouse when selecting several different display options. Page 58: Save Requester The Width/Height Save Info arrows can now change the values by larger increments. Holding down the key while clicking on an arrow will change the values by 10 units; holding the key and pressing on the arrows will change the units by 100. -- Additional Tips and Hints ------------------------------ AGA MACHINES Display Modes There are two AGA display modes that provide a good combination of screen size and colors for Color, Greyscale and LineArt: "DBLNTSC" and "DBLPAL", both High Res No Flicker. (This is also true for your default Workbench setting as well.) Extreme Overscan Setting Depending on your hardware monitor display, the ColorKit Pro Tool Menu area may now be displayed too low on your screen to select the tools with your mouse. (See tip on Function keys.) BRIGHTNESS Remember that for every scan there are several factors that can effect how bright your image appears on your monitor. Monitor: Brightness control Contrast/Polarizer screen on monitor Overhead room lighting Software: Gamma correction (brightens scans) Brightness & Contrast setting Original: Brightness and Contrast of original CACHE SIZE The values you set should be realistic. In other words, do not tell the program to use more Ram then is available or so little that ColorKit Pro will be forced to use your hard drive for most operations. If you are planning on Multi-tasking, you'll want to insure that you leave enough Ram for your other applications. Of course, if the choice is between Multi-tasking and having enough ram cache for scanning speed purposes, we would recommend using the Ram for ColorKit and temporarily not multi-tasking. DISPLAYING AN IMAGE Regardless of the format you wish to use to save the image, we recommend that you always select a HAM or (HAM-8) display mode to view your image. It will be much quicker, especially when you may have to perform several scans of an image before it is to your liking. ERROR CORRECTION Greyscale Displays When displaying greyscale scans using a display mode with 16 greys, we always recommend using the default setting of "Error Correction". Color Scans/Displays When displaying scans of photographs as opposed to illustrations with large areas of solid colors, it is also reccommended to use "Error Correction" for the display. FUNCTION KEYS Remember that you can use F1 thru F5 to select the Tools in the Menu area at the bottom of your screen. (This is also the way you can bring up the requestors when the menus appear too low.) GAMMA CORRECTION Gamma Correction generally brightens a scan. We have found that illustrations (ie: comics) that have been screened may often appear too light when using the calibration curve. If this is the case, you can utilize the Brightness and Contrast settings rather than Gamma. To easily see the effects, try two different Preview scans of the same original, with the Gamma Gadget selected (blue) and deselected (grey). When scanning black and white originals (using the "Line Art" setting in the Scanning Requester) it is not reccommended to use the Gamma setting. PRESCAN/SCAN GADGETS Do not press on the Prescan or Scan gadgets, while the scanner head is moving, or while the lights on top of the scanner are blinking, or a SCSI communication error may occur. SCSI CONTROLLERS See the seperate file or printout included regarding SCSI Tips and Hints! SCSI DEVICE # The original design of the scanner information requester assumed that the SCSI device number would range in the standard 0-6. However users with multiple SCSI controller cards and logical units may also have valid two or three digit combinations used to open SCSI deveices. Rather than using arrows to change the SCSI device ID number, the requester now contains an editable text field. HOOKING UP TO A SECOND SCSI CONTROLLER Sample values: 100-106 Second controller board, addresses 0-6 WHAT TO DO IF PROGRAM APPEARS TO HANG If the problem was caused by a temporary communication problem with the scanner, you may turn off the scanner, wait 10-15 seconds, and then turn it back on and wait for the ready light to come on the scanner. This should bring up an error requestor. You may then wish to retry the failed operation. If you ever need to turn off/reboot your Amiga while running ColorKit Pro, the temporary caching file in-use on your hard-drive will still remain. If you relaunch ColorKit Pro, this file will automatically be deleted. If you are not going to immediately run ColorKit Pro, then you should delete this file ("Tempfile"). ======================================================================= Files contained on this disk: Read_Me!
