LIGHTRAVE 3.1 QuickStart Installation Guide and Technical Addendum. The QuickStart portion of this installation guide is primarily for users installing the Newtek 3.0 and/or 3.1 software for the first time on any given system. If you have already installed a version of the Newtek software on the Amiga planned for LightRave. You should skip the QuickStart installation guide and use the installation procedures in the general LightRave manual. A Note of Caution: The Install-Switcher 3.0 and Install-Switcher 3.1 icons are provided for users installing the Newtek 3.0 and 3.1 software for the first time on any given system. They were not designed for use on systems which already have any version of the Newtek software already loaded. For more information on these utilities see page 2 of this guide. This guide also contains a Technical Addendum. Included here is an installation method for users already possessing one toaster system, that wish to install LightRave on a second Non-Toaster system. QuickStart Installation Guide. The following directions are provided for users installing the Newtek 3.0 and/or 3.1 software for the first time on any given system. They were not designed for use on systems which already have any version of the Newtek software already loaded. If you are not installing the Newtek software for the first time, You should proceed to the general manual. Getting Started: Before proceeding with this installation you will need the NewTek VideoToaster (tm) 3.0 and / or the 3.1 update. The 3.0 software consists of 29 disks and contains a very large library of outline fonts and 3D objects. Also included are Lightwave 3D and it's Modeler. Some very worthwhile tutorials for Lightwave and Modeler are also provided. The 3.1 update consists of 6 disks and is basically a bug fix update for LightWave and Modeler. Also included a few new 3D objects and bug fixes for the Tutorials that didn't correctly work in the 3.0 version. Important: The 3.0 software needs to be installed before proceeding with installation of the 3.1 update. Users should note that a Hard-Drive partition of at least 32 Megabytes is necessary for installation of the 3.0 Video Toaster software. If you wish to install both the 3.0 software and the 3.1 update, a Hard-Drive partition of at least 41 Megabytes will be necessary. Installing Video-Toaster Switcher 3.0: 1) Insert the LightRave software driver into any drive. Click open the LightRave disk and double click the "Install-Switcher3.0" icon. You should click "OK" to continue. You should NOT click the Install-LightRave icon at this time. 2) You will be asked to place Video Toaster Install "Disk One" in any drive. This is the purple disk that reads "Video Toaster 3.0 install disk one". You will However need to put this disk in DF0: (the internal disk drive). You will now see the Video Toaster Install Screen. 3) The selector at the right will allow you to choose any Hard Drive partition other than your boot partition. Select the Hard-Drive partition you wish to install the Video Toaster software on. The Hard-Drive partition you select will need to have at least 32 Megabytes free. If you have the 3.1 update and wish to install that as well, you should have at least a 41 Megabyte partition free. 4) You will need to activate the "From Amiga Icon" button. If you select the "On power up" button, the 3.0 software will not properly install. 5) Make sure the Hard Drive partition selected is the one you wish to install the Video Toaster software to. Also double check that you have selected the "From Amiga Icon". If you do not select the "From Amiga Icon" button, an error will occur and the installation will not continue. At this time click the INSTALL button. 6) You will be prompted for the additional 28 disks as they are needed.They will need to be placed in DF0: (the internal disk drive). Total installation times vary, and are greatly dependent on the speed of your hard drive. 7) After all 29 disks have been installed, the text "Video Toaster Successfully Installed" will appear. Click Exit. Lightwave 3.0 is now installed. If you have the 3.1 update, you may proceed to the next section. If you do not have the 3.1 update or did not have a 41 Megabyte partition available, you should proceed to page 6 of the general LightRave manual. This will detail installation of the LightRave hardware and software driver. Installing Video-Toaster Switcher 3.1: 1) Insert the LightRave software driver into any drive. Click open the LightRave disk and double click the "Install-Switcher3.1" icon. You should click "OK" to continue. You should NOT click the Install-LightRave icon at this time. 2) You will be asked to place Video Toaster "Install Disk One" in any drive. However you should put it in DF0: (the internal disk drive). The 3.1 update disks are the red and black disks that read "VideoToaster 3.1" You will next see the Video Toaster installation requestor. 3) Select the Hard-Drive partition you had previously installed the Video Toaster software to. The Hard-Drive partition you select will need to have at least 15 Megabytes free, although after the installer deletes the non essential files, the 3.1 update will take less than 8 additional megs. 4) At this time, click the INSTALL button. 5) You will be prompted for the additional 5 disks as they are needed. They will need to be placed in DF0: (the internal disk drive). Total install times vary, and are greatly dependent on the speed of your hard drive. 6) After all 6 disks have been installed, the text " 3.1 Update Installed" will appear in the status bar. Click Exit. Lightwave 3.1 is now installed. you should now proceed to page 6 of the general LightRave manual. This will detail installation of the LightRave hardware and software driver. TECHNICAL ADDENDUM LightWave Installation for Advanced Users. The following procedure documents a method for moving Lightwave files from an existing Toaster system to a LightRave system without the Video Toaster software already installed. This procedure requires some knowledge of the Amiga operating system and it's directory structures. To get LightRave working, a bare minimum of files from the Video Toaster software are actually necessary. Only the following files need to be copied to the machine where LightRave will be located. The files MUST remain in the correct directory locations. These directories must either be copied with the files, or created on the new system. The following files in their proper directories are all that are needed for proper operation. TOASTER (Directory) LightWave.fp (necessary for machines with an FPU or Floating Point Unit) LightWave (only necessary for machines without an FPU) Modeler.fp (necessary for machines with an FPU) Modeler (only necessary for machines without an FPU) (note, the LightRave software drivers also reside in this directory) 3D (Directory: this is a directory inside the Toaster directory) Images (Directory: resides inside the 3D directory Objects (Directory: resides inside the 3D directory Surfaces (Directory: resides inside the 3D directory Motions (Directory: resides inside the 3D directory Scenes (Directory: resides inside the 3D directory Envelopes (Directory: resides inside the 3D directory Previews (Directory: Resides inside the 3D directory Note: While LightWave is not very usable without Objects, scenes and surfaces, these directories do not need files in them for LightRave and LightWave to operate correctly. The TIO directory is necessary for importing 3D objects from other formats, including DFX files. The AREXX directory is necessary for using the Modeler Arexx macros.
