RELEASE 2.0 Asside from simple bug fixes, V2.0 of C of A is significantly different from V1.0. The changes are too vast to mention here. It is highly recommended that everyone read the new manual. C of A V2.0 has been play tested. However, because the game was so extensively rewritten, it is almost a completely new game. Eventhough all old known bugs were fixed, there is the possibility of new bugs. If you come across any bugs, type-o's, or problems, please send a post card, with as complete description of the problem as you can, to: GLAUG P.O. Box 246 Lafayette, IN. 47902 KNOW BUGS: The following bugs are known to exist in V2.0, none of these can be fixed at this time: 1) Because of a bug in AC-BASIC involving strings, the manual program sometimes prints unusual characters. None of the garbage seen so far interferes with understanding the text. 2) The 512K version of the game is so memory intesive that it MUST close the WorkBench screen to work. Currently the machine will lock up when the game ends and it tries to reopen the WorkBench screen. This DOES NOT affect the game in any way. But, you will have to reboot the machine when the game is over. This should not be a problem sence you will most likely want to reboot with your own WorkBench after a game anyway. 3) Again, because the 512K version must close the WorkBench screen, users who have 512K and TWO drives should be sure and place BOTH disks in the drives before starting the program!! Otherwise, since the WorkBench screen has been closed, AmigaDOS has no where to put the requester asking you for disk2, and hello Mr. Guru! GETTING STARTED CA is contained on two disks. These disks MUST be named 'ArdaniaDisk1' and 'ArdaniaDisk2'. The first disk contains the program files themselves along with support files and the manual. Disk two contains all of the data files. ArdaniaDisk1 comes as a bootable disk, however not all of the system files are on this disk. In order to play CA you must first transfer some system files from your Workbench disk to ArdaniaDisk1. 512K users need to use a special install script file. Because the 512K version is so memory intensive there is no room for WorkBench in the system. The special install creates a different startup-sequence which does not start WorkBench, but boots the game directly. 512K users with only ONE drive have a special install procedure they must follow, see below. INSTALLING CA 1) Before continuing MAKE A BACK UP!!! The process of installing your disk will write to it!! Keep the originals in a safe place! 2) Boot your Amiga with a Workbench which you know has the following files on it: c/EndCli c/LoadWB c/run c/stack libs/diskfont.library libs/icon.library The original workbench which came with your 1.2 enhancement software or with your machine has these files on it. 3) From any CLI window type the following: IF YOU HAVE A LEAST 1 MEG: execute ArdaniaDisk1:InstallCofA_1MEG IF YOU HAVE ONLY 512K: execute ArdaniaDisk1:InstallCofA_512K These are script files which will copy all of the required system files from your Workbench to ArdaniaDisk1. NOTE: if you are not sure what a CLI window is or do not know how to open one, see your Amiga Manual. To start the game simply reboot your machine (CTRL-AMIGA-AMIGA) and place ArdaniaDisk1 in the internal drive. Then, 1) If you installed the 1 MEG version, double-click on the disk icon when it appears, then double-click on the icon for the version of the game which will run on your machine: 512K or 1MEG version. Both versions WILL work, but you will most likely want to run the 1MEG version. 2) If you installed the 512K version CA will start automatically when you boot with it's disk. Crown_of_Ardania should ALWAYS be started by booting with ArdaniaDisk1. FOR USERS WITH 512K AND ONE DRIVE Because there is no way to avoid AmigaDOS putting up requesters asking you to swap disks, you need to do the following to put ALL of C of A onto a single disk. 1) BACK UP DISK 1 !!! 2) Boot your Amiga with a disk you know has the following files on it: c/EndCLI c/LoadWB c/stack c/run c/assign libs/diskfont.library libs/icon.library 3) execute ArdaniaDisk1:InstallCofA_512K 4) Delete the following files from Disk1: ShowFile READ_ME_FIRST READ_ME_FIRST.info Crown_of_Ardania_1MEG Crown_of_Ardania_1MEG.info InstallCofA_1MEG InstallCofA_512K .info Disk.info C_of_A_Manual C_of_A_Manual.info Message Screens/ManScroll Man/Man.text Man 5) Make the following directories on Disk1: Data Sounds 6) Copy the following files: a) The entire contents of the Screens directory on Disk2 to the Screens directory on Disk1. b) The entire contents of the Data directory on Disk2 to the Data directory on Disk1. c) All of the files in the Sounds directory on Disk2, EXCEPT Fanfare, to the Sounds directory on Disk1. d) Copy the assign command from your WorkBench to the C directory on Disk1 7) Edit the startup-sequence on Disk1 so that it reads: Stack 9500 Assign ArdaniaDisk2: ArdaniaDisk1: runback ArdaniaDisk1:Crown_of_Ardania_512K EndCli FOR USERS WITH 1 MEG AND ONE DRIVE Sorry, but the 1 meg version and all of its files will not fit on a single disk. You will have to do some disk swapping. Also, when AmigaDOS puts up the disk swap requesters it will force the Workbench screen to the front. Therefore, you will need to click the back-gadget or press Left-Amiga-M to get the CA screen back where you can see it. GLAUG hopes you find this disk enjoyable. Your comments and suggestions are highly encouraged. PUBLIC DOMAIN DISKS: GLAUG has a regular Public Domain Series of disks for $4.00 each to non-members and $2.00 to regular members.
