PANZER BATTLES (Amiga Version V1.2) WARPAINT ________ Some of the icons in WarPaint could use further explanation. Reading from right to left across the top row they are: REAL ROADS This tool creates real roads that units use for navigation, and on which they pay road movement costs. ERSATZ ROADS This tool creates roads which look like roads on the map, and on which units pay normal road movement costs. However, units will not treat these as roads for navigational purposes. Use these to create roads which were actually present on the battlefield, but which you do not want units using. This is especially useful for roads which lead to the map edge. HIDDEN ROADS These are not really roads at all. Units pay the movement costs for the underlying terrain, but will treat these as roads for navigational purposes. This is very useful for leading units through difficult terrain, without giving them a movement bonus. ROAD MASK The hexagonal shaped tool is the road mask. It will hide any visible road on the map, and is used only for cosmetic purposes. DISPLAY CHANGE The orders dialog is slightly different to the example in the rulebook. The divisional and regimental information is now contained in a new menu item, "Division Report", under the "Display" menu. This will show all the info, such as leadership, admin, supply and so on, for the current division and all of its regiments. Regimental supply and casualties are very important, so you should check this report often. TERRAIN TYPES Note for those familiar with IBM HOM Terrain in the Amiga version operates differently from the IBM version; in the Amiga version, each graphic hex picture has a terrain type allotted to it, which is varied using the bottom slider. This operates differently from the IBM version. Please consult the manual for further details. VERSION NUMBER The version number of your release may be found by accessing the "ABOUT" menu item. ______________________________________________________________________ HARD DISK INSTALLATION To run PANZER BATTLES from a hard disk, we recommend that you have greater than 1 Meg of memory. If you are attempting to run PANZER BATTLES on a 1 Meg machine and are receiving out of memory messages, it is likely you will have to remove some of your more memory consuming startup programmes. To do the installation, boot as usual and MOUNT your hard disk. Insert the PANZER BATTLES disk and open it. Click on the PZ_HDInstall Icon and follow the instructions. Then start from the icon. If hard disk space is at a premium, the only files absolutely necessary to run the programme are as follows: pz panzer panzer.info HOM.pic HOM.info fonts (directory - all files in directory - add to existing fonts) Sounds (directory - all files in directory) BATF_Pictures (directory - all files in directory) ______________________________________________________________________ AMIGA 3000/Workbench 2.x users You may run the game directly from the supplied disk, or from your hard disk using the install procedure above. If you are running from your hard disk (using WB 2.x), you may run the programme either from the Panzer icon OR the PZ icon (or indeed, by by typing "pz" in the appropriate directory from the shell or CLI). However, because Workbench 2.x automatically changes directories, etc., we strongly recommend you run from the PZ icon, rather than the Panzer icon. The programme on exit will that way leave 2.x happier. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- KEYBOARD ENTRY When entry data in, say, Warplan (TM), using the keyboard, please note that the key and key are treated slightly differently, in that the key polls the input whereas does not. Thus, if you keep the key pressed, it will have the effect of repeatedly pressing the key. It is generally faster to use the key for data entry, and the key for scanning information. PAUSING GAME Clicking outside any of the open windows will (when control is returned to the user) pause the game; The "marching ants" moving borders around units and other cursors will stop moving, and the game is then paused. NOTE PANZER BATTLES' save game files are a little larger than their HALLS OF MONTEZUMA equivalents, in that there is provision for 190 icons in Warpaint (TM) instead of 150 icons. HALLS OF MONTEZUMA save games are compatible with and may be run by Panzer Battles, but PANZER BATTLES game files will not run with HALLS OF MONTEZUMA.
