If you have too many partitions, you might run out of memory and some programs won't run anymore. If you drag this gadget, you alter the size of the selected partition. For example, when you drag the gadget to the left the current partition gets greater and the previous one gets smaller. To change the partition you are working on, just click at that part of the bar that represents the partition. Each partition represent a physical unit so you have to enter unique names for each partition. This name can only be changed by the Install Program. HELP_END HELP_TEXT_3 \c2\b1 DOS Name \c1\b0 \z10Here you can enter the DOS name of the selected partition. This is the name which you see under the icon of this drive on the Workbench. If you have created more partitions, you have to enter different DOS names for each partition, otherwise AmigaDos will be confused. You can also change this name from the Workbench with the rename options in the pull-down menu. HELP_END HELP_TEXT_8 \c2\b1 Select FileSystem \c1\b0 \z10The FileSystems are programs which are shipped with the computer. They interpret the data on your harddisk. For example, changing the FileSystem of a harddisk without reformatting the drive would mean that your computer wouldn't be able to interpret the data on the drive correcty, because they were stored with a different FileSystem-syntax. Which FileSystem you select, depends on the usage of the selected Partition and the KickStart version you are using. NEXT_PAGE \c2\b1 Select FileSystem \c1\b0 \c2\b3\BFFS\b0\c1\N - FastFileSystem. This is the fastest Filesystem. It appears first under Kickstart 1.3. Normaly, you use this FileSystem. \c2\b3\BOFS\b0\c1\N - OldFileSystem (Kickstart 1.2). \c2\b3\BAFS\b0\c1\N - AlternateFileSystem. If you want to use a non-AmigaDOS partition (for AMax etc.), you have to select this FileSystem. HELP_END HELP_TEXT_7 \c2\b1 Select Bootpriority \c1\b0 \z11If you have connected several drives (Harddisks,Floppydrives etc.) to your Amiga, the Amiga has to decide after each reset from which partition to boot . The Amiga makes this decision by looking at the bootpri value of each partition and boots from the partition with the highest value. \b3If formatting a second drive, the boot partition (usually DH0:) should have a Bootpri of 1.\b0 NEXT_PAGE \c2\b1 Select Bootpriority \c1\b0 \z10If booting from the drive with the highest bootpri fails (no disk in drive, etc.) the Amiga will look which drive has the same or lower bootpri and attempts to boot this. You can enter bootpriorities from -127 (never boots) to 127 (boots always). The bootpriority of the floppy drive is 5. You should enter a lower value for your partitions. Commodore suggests that a harddrive should have a bootpri of 0. HELP_END HELP_TEXT_6 \c2\b1 Enter Buffers \c1\b0 \z11For each partition, you can enter how much memory of your Amiga will be used for buffering data from the partition. The last data that was transfered between harddisk and Amiga is stored in this buffer. Since data access to the buffer is faster than a access to the harddisk, the Amiga will look first if the requested data is currently in the buffer. NEXT_PAGE \c2\b1 Enter Buffers \c1\b0 \z11Raising the buffervalue will increase the speed of your harddisk but decreases the free amount of memory. We suggest a value from 32 to 64 for each partition. Since each buffer eats memory alter this value carefully. HELP_END HELP_TEXT_4 \c2\b1 Transfer Mask \N\c1\b0 \z11If you have trouble with the DataFlyer and another expansion (like an accelator board), you can change this value to protect memory regions against DataFlyer transfers. Transferrate \c1\b0 \z11The max. transfer value is the maximum of data shipped between the Amiga and the DataFlyer. Normally, you don't have to change the default value. If you have more than one controller, there can be some conflict between them. You can solve the problem with changing this value. \b3The default Max Transfer rate value is 7FFFFFFF.\b0 HELP_END HELP_TEXT_11 \c2\b1 Install harddisk \N\c1\b0 \z11By selecting this function, you start the install process. After a safety check, the install program writes the neccesary information to the harddisk (\c1\b3\BRDB\b0\c1\N). A status window will inform you about the progress (all steps done gets a checkmark, while a step in progress gets a cup of coffee). NEXT_PAGE \c2\b1 Install harddisk \N\c1\b0 \z11After writing the RDB to your harddisk, the install program will ask you if you want to format a partition. If you select FORMAT, the partition will be formatted. Warning! All data will be lost! NEXT_PAGE \c2\b1 Install harddisk \N\c1\b0 \z11Now the install program will copy all neccesary DataFlyer files to your harddisk. After copying all DataFlyer files you can copy an (AmigaDOS) disk to your hard disk. NEXT_PAGE \c2\b1 Install harddisk \N\c1\b0 \z11Now your harddisk is installed. Leave the install program and perform a reset. Enjoy your harddisk! HELP_END HELP_TEXT_14 \c2\b1 Read from harddisk \N\c1\b0 \z10The fragmentation of your harddisk in several partitions is stored on the first blocks of your harddisk by this install program. At startup, the install program will try to read this information from your harddisk. If this is the first installation, there will be no such information and the install program will default to one partition with maximum size. You can use this option to reread the information from the harddisk. HELP_END HELP_TEXT_13 \c2\b1 Read from file \N\c1\b0 \z10With this install program, it is possible to save the information you have entered for a harddrive to a file (see : \c2\b3\BWrite to file\b0\c1\N). With this option you can read the saved data from a file. If you destroyed the information saved to the first blocks of your harddisk, it's impossible for the Amiga to find the partitions and the data on it. So, loosing the information on these few blocks will vanish all your data on the harddisk. NEXT_PAGE \c2\b1 Read from file \N\c1\b0 \z11If you have saved the information to a file, you can restore them by reading with this option from a file and then reinstall your harddisk with the \c2\b3\BINSTALL -> RDB ONLY\b0\c1\N option. NEXT_PAGE \c2\b1 Read from file \N\c1\b0 \c2How to read a file\c1 \z11If you have selected 'Read from file', a file requester will appear. After selecting the file you want to read, the install program will load it. HELP_END HELP_TEXT_18 \c2\b1 Write to file \N\c1\b0 \z10With this install program, it is possible to save the information you have entered for a harddrive to a file. If you have destroyed the information saved to the first blocks of your harddisk, it's impossible for the Amiga to find the partitions and the data on it so we recomment to save the information from each harddisk you have installed to a file. Please : Don't put the file to your harddisk...destroying it will also destroy this file! HELP_END HELP_TEXT_12 \c2\b1 Badblocktest \N\c1\b0 \z11With this function, you can check if there are hard errors on your harddisk. If you work with your harddisk and get many read/write errors some sectors of your harddisk might be defective (first check if the errors are 'normal' AmigaDos errors -> checksum errors. etc.). NEXT_PAGE \c2\b1 Badblocktest \N\c1\b0 \z11If you think, you have some hard errors on you harddisk, test the harddisk with this function. Warning! After a badblocktest ALL data will be lost! So be carefull with this function (first do a backup from your harddisk). HELP_END HELP_TEXT_110 \c2\b1 Automatic or manual installation \c1\b0 \z10\c2You can decide between two kinds of installation.\c1 If you just want to make your harddisk run select \c1\b3\B AUTOMATIC \b0\c1\N. The harddisk will be installed with default values. If you select \c1\b3\B NO \b0\c1\N you will get to a menu, where you can change all values according to your harddisk. HELP_END HELP_TEXT_109 \c2\b1 No harddisk found \c1\b0 \z10\c2The install program can't find a harddisk.\c1 Possible reasons : - The cable between the \c2DataFlyer\c1 board and your harddisk isn't connected correctly. Check cable. - The harddisk isn't configured correctly. Please look in the harddisk manual to find out the correct jumper settings. NEXT_PAGE \c2\b1 No harddisk found \c1\b0 \z11Possible reasons : - The \c2DataFlyer\c1 board isn't in correctly in the Amiga slot. - The harddisk is defective. - The \c2DataFlyer\c1 is defective. Please turn off the computer, wait a while, and turn it on again. Try installation once again. HELP_END HELP_TEXT_108 \c2\b1 Compatibility problems \c1\b0 \z11Your harddisk was installed with an older version of the install program. There are several changes in this version with the result that the older install program is not compatible with this version of the install program. NEXT_PAGE \c2\b1 Compatibility problems \c1\b0 \z11To use the features of the new prep program, do the following: - Make a backup of your harddisk. - Install your harddisk with the new prep program. - Restore the backuped data to your harddisk. It's better if possible, to reinstall your Harddisk with this new software. HELP_END HELP_TEXT_107 \c2\b1 Copy a disk to your harddisk \c1\b0 \z10With this function you can copy a (AmigaDOS) disk to your harddisk. The best use is to copy your Workbench disk to the harddisk. Warning! You MUST copy a Workbench to your harddisk that matches to your Kickstart (Kickstart 2.04 -> Workbench 2.0, etc.) since the harddisk won't boot correctly if you copy the incorrect Workbench (programs on the Workbench 2.0 need Kickstart 2.0...). HELP_END HELP_TEXT_106 \c2\b1 Error while formatting \c1\b0 \z11If the install program gives you an error while formatting the harddisk, reset your Amiga and boot from a Workbench disk. Now format your harddisk with the 'FORMAT'-command from your Workbench (DOS manual : Format). HELP_END HELP_TEXT_105 \c2\b1 Do you want to format a partition ? \c1\b0 \z11To use the partitions from your harddisk as a normal AmigaDOS device, (see filesystems) you have to format it. Since you access a partition by partition name, it is impossible to use this name twice. Please change the partition name. HELP_END HELP_TEXT_103 \c2\b1 Create a bootdisk \c1\b0 \z11You have Kickstart 1.2 Kickstart 1.2 doesn't support autoboot, so you must create a bootdisk which will mount your harddisk. If you're working with the original Installdisk select \c1\b3\BABORT\b0\c1\N and create a copy of the Installdisk and boot again from the copy. Start the install program again. If the drive needs to be Low-level formatted, click the \c1\b3\BLow Format\c1\b0\N button, otherwise select \c1\b3\BNo\c1\b0\N. HELP_END HELP_TEXT_113 \c2\b1 Low Level Format \c1\b0 \z11How a drive is Low-Level formatted is based upon the interleave ratio. Most 3.5" hard drives use an Interleave of 1 as standard. If you are uncertain of your drive's required interleave, select \c1\b3\BAuto Interleave\c1\b0\N and the install software will test for the best interleave. By unchecking the Auto Interleave box, you may select any value by clicking it's radio button. Select the \c1\b3\BOK\c1\b0\N button to begin Low-Level formatting the drive. HELP_END
