Where are they all disappearing to? by Bill Gates: Have you noticed that when Amiga companies disappear, they don't just stop advertising all of a sudden, they just quietly slip away? There are many companies doing this at the moment. Did anyone notice Silica sneak out of the magazines? Remember when the Anglo-corp bought Silica, they went from a double page spread advert, to a single page in Amiga Format, they disappeared completely from Cu Amiga & all of the other mags. Special Reserve went from hogging page 1 & 2 of every Amiga mag, to somewhere in the middle with only one page. Soon after, they went to half a page, and now they just `sometimes' have half a page in the middle of `some' magazines. What about 17Bit? For years they had a page of full of CDROM disc offers and a list of the latest stuff in their library, now they are reduced to half a page and they have recently disappeared from Amiga Format. Gordon Harwood? They're disappearing as well, but you bet they'll be back for Christmas! Also, remember when there used to be loads of full page ads showing off the latest games? Yeah, they were a pain in the arse at times, cos the magazines were all full of them, but now? Uh Uhhh. I haven't seen an advert like that for a while now. Another thing that's disappeared, the demos! I used to love trying to get hold of the latest demos and then once I've found them, I used to love watching those tunnel sequences and other effects. Now? There aren't very many. Remember the days when Spaceballs were producing demos every few months and they were ones to remember, like State of the Art, 9 fingers, geez I miss them sorta things. I know some of the groups have gone P.C, but I don't see the logic of that. I mean, what would you find challenging. Making a really good demo with only a 68020 or 68030 with 2 or 4 meg of RAM or a P.C with a mammoth 8-16 meg Pentium 90/133? I know which machine I'd rather show something special on. Oh by the way, I've just made a demo with 5 minutes of animation, what did you use? A P.C with 16 Meg, doh, anyone can do that! WHat about the CDROM discs? Remember last year and the year before? There were quite a few P.D CD's, plus loads of CD32 titles, they just seem to be dying like goldfish in a pool acid. Sure, they are still coming out, but they're slowing down like anything! The 17Bit 6 CDROM `should' be available soon, so hopefully us CDROM drive owners will be treated to a decent CD soon. Also, I've heard something about V12 releasing a CDROM disc, it's either in the process of being made or it's not long been out. Please let me know about this CD Steve, as I'll send you a cheque for it straight away, just gimme the price & a few details. Also on the plus side, Cu Amiga plan to produce a CDROM edition of their magazine every quarter and Amiga Format are releasing a CDROM version of their mag, every month!!! At long last someone has decided to say stuff you non upgrading disk drive only lot. Good on ya A.F. If you've noticed any other companies disappear these past few weeks, let us know. You can let us know exactly where they've gone as well if you know. Until next time, happy Amiga product hunting. ED'S FINAL WORD:WE JUST FOUND OUT THAT THE V12 CD IS AVAILABLE AND IS PRICED: £15.99.... buy it, or be a penguin. (eh?-Ed.)
