      Yes  I  know  you're  reading a diskmag, but what about all the other
      ones  out  there  begging  for  your  attention?  All those wonderful
      e-publications that review people's PD and Shareware (and - I'm being
      honest  here  -  usually  make  a  better  job  of  reviews  than the
      "professionals")   and   give  you  fascinating  articles,  wonderful
      graphics, cool music, etc!

      Here  are  my  recommendations.   Please note the omission of "scene"
      mags  (apart  from,  arguably, The Word) as I happen to think they're
      crap,  apart from some of the jokes they put in now and then.  I have
      not  supplied  contact  addresses here, but you can get most of these
      disks from your local PD library.  If not, try 17-Bit.  :-)
      

      ShareWorld  (New  Zealand)  (Public  Domain) (issue #5 reviewed - out
      now)
      
      ~  ShareWorld  is  a  'zine  aimed  at  Shareware  authors  and those
      interested  in the PD/Shareware market in general.  Issue #5 comes on
      two  disks  and  is quite literally jam-packed with articles, images,
      reviews,  fiction,  interviews,  etc  etc.   It's certainly VERY good
      value  for  money.   The whole thing is presented with Magnetic Pages
      which  has  only  a few minor drawbacks (such as screen blanking when
      you  turn  the  page  - argh!  BLINK!) but lots of VERY nice features
      indeed  and  I  have  come  to recognise and really like ShareWorld's
      appearance.   Highlights  of  this  issue  include:   reviews  of new
      software  -  Jump  Em, Legions of Dawn, The Quatermass Experiment #3,
      Trainmaker,  Aquanaut,  etc  etc;  an  absolute  ton  of  interesting
      questionnaires  filled  in  by  LOADS  of  top Shareware/PD coders; a
      brilliant   Mike  Richmond  article  called  "Creatives";  some  good
      original  fiction;  artwork  by  Andy Cashmore, Mr Frosty, Jen Allen,
      Rodney  Entwisle  &  others; plus some p*ss taking contributions from
      myself  which  the  Editor  seems  to  have  rather  oddly taken very
      seriously and lectured me about!  Very amusing.

      Overall:   88%  -  Good  mag.   With  such a huge and varied range of
      content it should appeal to a wide audience.  Worth a look.


      Amiga  Review  (Public Domain) (issue #2 reviewed - out now) (1 disk)

      A  relatively new diskmag, edited by Dave Kirk and featuring reviews,
      news,  and  all  manner of PD-related things, including some artwork.
      The presentation is okay and the music's nice, but it doesn't seem to
      go anywhere and there aren't many contributors.  Coded in AMOS.

      Overall:  70% - Add it at the bottom of your next PD order if you're
                      entitled to a free disk.  Not a touch on many other PD
                      diskmags but could get better.
