      Phase  5  have made it into the main news this month, though not with
      an accelerator board or anything like that, no, they've gone straight
      to  the top and said to hell with Escom & Viscorp, we'll make the new
      Amiga.   About time too if yer ask me!  Let Viscorp get on with their
      Set  Top Box, let Amiga Technologies join forces with Phase 5 and let
      Escom rot in hell.  Anyway, the new computer looks set to be a mighty
      graphics  power  house, which is literally going to walk all over the
      P.C's  great graphics.  The processor in the new machine looks set to
      be  well  over  160Mhz!  It's goodbye 68000 range I'm afraid, the PPC
      604e  is  the  replacement.   PLUS!   There'll  be:   A  fast SCSI-II
      controller,  network  interface,  4  speed  CDROM,  1  GB hard-drive,
      integrated  Genlock,  16Meg  memory, Stereo CD quality sound.  Hurah!
      Phase  5 claim that there is no current comparable quality on any P.C
      Pentium  system.   The  O.S will have some sort of compatibility with
      Mac  OS and an emulator may be made available to help it run on a Mac
      or   even  a  (spit)  Windoze  machine.   The  project  has  been  in
      development for a while now and is reaching its final stages, Phase 5
      wants  a large response from Amiga fanatics in order to put the icing
      on  the  cake.  (I didn't know they were into bakery-Ed.) Finally, on
      the  graphics  side  of  things,  the  specification is:  1600 x 1200
      pixels  at  24  bit colour depth and a refresh rate of 72Hz.  Special
      functions  for 3D video effects have been added, so I'll have no more
      of that Doom & Duke Nuke'm bollocks from the P.C corner thankyou.


      I  must  admit that I'm pretty excited at the thought of a new Amiga,
      although  I  seriously doubt that it will be called an `Amiga' (sob).
      To  be  honest, changing the name isn't a bad idea, (even though it's
      illegal  for  Phase 5 to use the brand name `Amiga') because anything
      called  Amiga  nowadays  is  classed as `old hat' and out of date.  I
      think  Phase  5  are on to a winner, but it is vitally important that
      they  sell it in all of the right places, such as Electronic Boutique
      stores, Dixons, Currys and all main computer shops, mail order places
      etc.  Also, and most importantly, Phase 5 MUST advertise this machine
      on  TV  if  it is supposed to get anywhere.  By the looks of things I
      reckon  this  machine  is  going  to be based solely on proffessional
      video use, i.e in TV/Film studios.  This isn't a bad thing, don't get
      me  wrong, that's not what I'm saying, all I am saying is that, DON'T
      FORGET  ABOUT  THE REST OF US WHO WANT A COMPUTER WHICH IS A GOOD ALL
      ROUNDER!

      I  wish Phase 5 the very best of luck, at last someone has become fed
      up  of  broken promises, delayed projects, half hearted efforts, lies
      etc etc...

      It's time for a change.  Amiga Technologies isn't the answer, Viscorp
      probably  isn't either, but Phase 5 deserve a good chance, even if it
      is just for the cracking press release they sent out the other week.

      I  tried to find the address to write to in order to contact Phase 5,
      because  it wasn't included on the press release, but I err, couldn't
      find  it!   I  know I have it somewhere!  I'll try to find it in time
      for next month, but if anyone has it, please send it to me!!!

      Support  Phase  5,  go  on, I dare you!  Write in to Phase 5 and give
      them  your  support  &  for fucks sake, when the new machine arrives,
      unless  it turns out to be awful, bluddy upgrade to it and don't be a
      sad bastard and hang on to your A500/600/1200 etc...

      A.F  will  be converting over to the new platform as soon as there is
      sufficient  support and knowledge to do so, I guarantee that we won't
      wait.
