G-Lock ReadMe.Doc File: ----------------------- This file is intended to provide additional details that the G-Lock manual did not include. >> PLEASE NOTE: If you find ANY bugs with the software/hardware report them to GVP as soon as possible in writing using the included Bug report forms. GL V1.16 NEW TOOLTYPES/CLI COMMANDS AND FEATURES: The V1.16 version of GL now supports several new tooltypes and CLI commands that you may find very useful. A) Tooltype: "TOLERANCE=n", where the default for n is 4. Tolerance sets the number of fields that the GL program waits before switching to "No Video" mode when it detects via the G-Lock status information that no video is present. This has been added to better support VCR users who may wish to fast- forward and rewind in a playable mode (or pause) and do not want G-Lock to drop back to "No Video" mode. Values smaller than 4 are amended to the value of 4. CLI: "TOLERANCE n", see above for details. B) Tooltype: "SWITCHER=SYNC", where the default is non-sync inputs. Switcher sets the GL program to expect the CVBS 1&2 inputs to be sync'ed together. This will stop the vertical roll when switching between the two inputs if they are locked together. This also has the effect of making the switching between non-sync inputs to be a bit faster. CLI: "SYNC", see above for details. C) Tooltype: "MODE=NORESETREQUEST" This new mode command has always been present as a CLI option, it now can be given as a tooltype. This has the effect of auto- matically rebooting into genlock mode and running the GL program without the reboot requestor asking the user. This is ideal for Kiosk applications. To have this work under WB2.0 or above, simply drag the GL icon into the WBStartup drawer and set this tooltype. You may wish to add the "DONOTWAIT" tooltype also to the beginning of the tooltypes list. D) Tooltype: "PARALLEL=FALSE", where the default is joystick control. Parallel sets the GL program to expect the DB9 control interface to be connected to the joystick port if parallel is set to false (the default). If parallel is set to true than the GL program will expect to have the DB9 control interaface attached to the Amiga's parallel port. This is to provide a more flexible way that the user can connect the G-Lock to their systems if some other device MUST be attached to the joystick port. This also means that the G-Lock can now be used with the Commodore CDTV using this approach. Note that an adaptor must be used to properly connect the DB9 G-Lock interface cable to the DB25 Amiga parallel port. See below for details. CLI: "PARALLEL", see above for details. Redmond, WA 98052 United States of America (206) 882-2009 Voice (206) 883-1430 Fax Notes: 1) When testing the G-Lock with high quality video test equipment, you may find that the differential gain and phase is out of specification (assuming you are starting with the factory calibration settings -- see manual). This can be fixed by simply using the Advanced menus and selecting Advanced menu #2 from the control panel's MENU selection and then either increasing or decreasing the LumaDelay value to give the best display. The difference this makes on the video screen is slight but can be significant when observing the composite output on a vectorscope (NTSC or PAL). 2) When using the NewTek Digi-View and the G-Lock, be sure to use the latest Digi-View software (V4.02 or greater) so that the Digi-View.REXX script will work properly. 3) Appendix E should have mentioned that the ARexx address port for G-Lock is "GLOCK". 4) Please note that you must select the video source connected to the G-Lock in order to view the genlocked video source. G-Lock does not auto-detect video sources connected to the G-Lock genlock. 5) G-Lock will attempt to lock to all types of video sources regardless of their quality. However, if the video is unstable such as when rewinding or fast-forwarding the video in a viewable mode, the G-Lock may at times switch to "No Video" mode automatically. To again view the connected video source, simply click on the source selection button once again. If this happens often you will need to increase the "TOLERANCE=n" tooltype in the GL icon using the workbench info program. See above for more details. 6) Always use the built-in ILBM loader when you wish to observe ILBM files and overlay them with video. This is due to the internal ILBM loader being special in that it can support the newer ECS and AA (AGA Chipset) settable bitplane keying or chroma keying bits and allow the user to set them for special effects using the Advanced Panel #4. If using ARexx, use the ARexx command for this purpose as well. 7) When connecting the G-Lock to Beta-CamSP or MII devices, use the suggested cable and connect the CSYNC output BNC of the cable to the EXTSYNC input of the Beta-CamSP or MII device. Then set that device for external sync input so that it can lock to the G-Lock's signal when the G-Lock is set to operate in YUV mode. You may need to adjust the G-Lock's software settings to get the correct levels as desired. 8) Please note that when the G-Lock is in Bypass mode, as it is when you first power up your Amiga, the RGB output port can only operate in 15Khz display modes even if your monitor is capable of operating at 31Khz (such as the Commodore 1950/1960). 9) The example AmigaVision flow is in development and will be included ASAP and/or be posted on the GVP BBS system. 10) Developers who wish to provide support for G-Lock in their products may do so by simply sending ARexx commands to the SGL (Small memory GL) program directly. Please see the "Developers" directory and programmer's notes on this disk. 11) If you get an "ERROR: x" message on your screen when using the G-Lock, then there may be a problem with your unit. First attempt to correct the problem yourself by making sure your cables are secure and properly attached. If this does not solve your problem, please contact your dealer or distributor for help.
