.o¤° EzSay v1.0 °¤o. Amiga Speech Synthesizer - Replacement tool for "Say" on OS2/3 ©1993-1994 Coded in assembly by Wai Hung Liu (Khul/Infect) ***************************************************************************** About ***************************************************************************** EzSay was programmed because I thought the "official" Commodore Say utility just wasn't good enough. With the appearance of KickStart 2.0+ Commodore are still using the archaic utility they supplied with machines that came with WorkBench 1.2! The actual speech output from the Amiga is not great but it is a lot better than what other machines can offer, 16 bit or not. Obviously with the appearance of the DSP in future Amigas a program like this will be made redundant... What I wanted when programming EzSay was to make a utility that let me experiment and have fun with speech. To take advantage of just some of the new features of the new operating systems, and to use proper gadgets, not just flimsy console windows. So now you have the fruits of my hard work, EzSay! ***************************************************************************** Requirements ***************************************************************************** EzSay can be loaded from the CLI or WorkBench. EzSay is an auto-detaching program so you won't have to "run" EzSay - you will still retain use of your CLI or SHELL. Several files are needed to run (these are included in the package): narrator.device in your DEVS: drawer VOS2.0+ translator.library in your LIBS: drawer V37 No other files are needed. These are standard files that should have been included on your WorkBench disks. Use at LEAST the versions listed above, the latest narrator.device is nearly 50k larger than the previous OS1.3 version! ***************************************************************************** Usage ***************************************************************************** Just type some text into the string gadget, and click on the Action button to hear your Amiga speak! A few of the gadgets are underscored and this means you can select them through keyboard shortcuts. Simple hold down SHIFT and the UNDERSCORED LETTER. Following is a list of complete keyboard shortcuts: SHIFT + A = Action (Speak!) SHIFT + RETURN = Action SHIFT + ESC = Quit SHIFT + M = Toggle mode SHIFT + S = Toggle sex SHIFT + F = Toggle filter SHIFT + T = Activate string gadget SHIFT + I = Information about EzSay ***************************************************************************** Final notes ***************************************************************************** Well I hope you like this little tool (only 5.5k! - less crunched!) The narrator.device provides a simple facility to draw synced "mouths" to expand in time with the speech. So why not include it? At the moment I don't see a point - unless you enjoy seeing a square box resizing itself... The actual data returned by the narrator.device is width and height... Anyway thanks to Poison/Nova=Curacao/Drinks for telling me about the oversight of the 68000 bug... oops! Greets are included in the actual program info. This program is placed into the public domain so spread it like hell (ok? 8-). Bye... Amiga rules - Intel out!
