DESTINY CARD. (C) 1994 ROBERT WEBLEY. RELEASED INTO THE PUBLIC DOMAIN. CREATED USING CANDO JR. (thanks Amiga Format, a great coverdisk) This trick was first devised by David Altman and published in MAGIGRAM Vol 25 Number 6 February 1993. It is similar to Will Dexter's Goldstrike and yet another variation on it was used on the Paul Daniels Magic Show. This is the computer version. The trick can either be performed in front of the computer, or if you want to really freak somebody out, tell them in advance to have a pack of cards by the phone, phone them up, get them to follow the instructions and then tell them over the phone which card they are on! I don't really need to put too much in the way of instructions here, as you get the instructions on the screen as the trick progresses. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% MIRACLE CARD DIVINATION. (C) Robert Webley 1994. Created using Gold DIsk's HYPERBOOK (Thanks CU Amiga, a great coverdisk) The inspiration for this simple little trick came from a much bigger and more complex trick by Penn & Teller called "THE MOST EXPENSIVE CARD TRICK IN THE WORLD" where a card was freely chosen from a deck, the remainder of the deck was fanned by Penn and elsewhere Teller freeze framed the fan, digitised it into a computer, used a program to locate the missing card and then relayed the information to a screen where Penn could anounce the selected card. This is a scaled down version, there is one big concession... You have to force the card, any method will do as long as the unsuspecting victim gets the 9 of Spades. Once you have done this your work is over. TO LOAD:- Once the hyperbook reader page has loaded, select load from the menu bar at the top of the screen, select miracle card divination and click on the tick. You can do all this as you instruct your victim to memorise their card and not let you see it. Then let them follow the on screen instructions. The trick works itself from here. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% SOFTWARE SYNCHRONICITY. (C) 1994 ROBERT WEBLEY. RELEASED INTO THE PUBLIC DOMAIN. CREATED USING CANDO JR. (Thanks Amiga Format - a great coverdisk) The effect: Resting on top of the computer is a sealed envelope. A screen of eight cards appears all face down, but each with a numbered button on their backs, the magician (that's you!) demonstrates to the victim that by clicking on the buttons a card is chosen and it's value revealed. You do this a couple of times, explaining that the computer shuffles the deck each time so the value of the cards cannot be predicted (this is a lie, but a beleivable one). Finally you ask your victim to choose any card they wish, they click on the card and it's value is revealed, they open the envelope and discover that the card they freely chose matches the one in the envelope! So how does it work? First get an envelope and put the ten of hearts inside and seal it. When the screen of eight cards appears you will find that by clicking on the number buttons the value of the card is revealed in the following manner: 1------------1 1 1 1 FOUR 1 1 OF 1 <- THIS IS THE FULL SCREEN 1 CLUBS 1 1 1 1------------1 to return to the card selection screen you press the left mouse button. This is where the secret lies... The screen should be imagined like this: 1------------1 1 FOUR 1 <- top half of screen 1 OF 1 1------------1 <- invisible line 1 CLUBS 1 1 1 <- bottom half of screen 1------------1 When you click the left mouse button anywhere in the top half of the screen, you are returned to the card selection screen, when you click the left mouse button anywhere in the bottom half of the screen you APPEAR to have returned to the card selection screen, however, ALL the cards on this screen are the ten of hearts! So you simply demonstrate how the cards are all different, always clicking in the top half of the card value screen, until you are ready for your victim to have a go, when you click in the bottom half of the screen, hand him the mouse and give him a "free" selection. His card will appear on the screen (the 10 of Hearts) he then opens the envelope and there is the ten of hearts, he chose quite freely the duplicate of the card sealed in the envelope! A nice touch is that on the ten of hearts screen, wherever you click you go back to the genuine selection screen, so you can invite him to click the same card again to "prove" that the computer really does shuffle the cards each time. Hope you have fun with this little program, if you have any ideas for other magic tricks you would like to see converted to computer, get in touch, or if you have written any yourself write to me.
