              Determining the Version Numbers Of Your Drivers

To  help  our  Technical  Support staff better serve you, please obtain the
version  numbers  of  your  EPSON_SCAN  Loader module and EPSON_SCAN_ToDisk
program before calling for support.  Follow the steps below to do so.

For  Kickstart/Workbench  1.3  users,  load  the  Loader module into a text
viewer and search for the string:

	$VER:

and  record  the  text  displayed after the $VER:  string.  Do this for the
ToDisk program if you do not have ADPro nor MorphPlus.

For  Kickstart/Workbench  2.0 (or later) users who have ADPro or MorphPlus,
you can type the following commands from a Shell:

	cd <location-of-ADPro/MorphPlus-program>
	version Loaders2/EPSON_SCAN full

For users who don't have either of these programs, type the following:

	cd <location-of-ToDisk-program>
	version EPSON_SCAN_ToDisk full

                      Using the Environment Variables

If  you  find that your scanner software is not working within your system,
you  might  want to try setting some environment variables that control the
scanner software.  These variables are described below:

EPSONNOCACHE
	This  environment  variable,  when set, will disable the interrupts
	during the scanning process.

EPSONDISABLE
	This  environment  variable, when set, will disable the data caches
	on your 68030 or 68040 during the scanning process.

To set an environment variable, type the following at any CLI/Shell prompt:

	setenv <variable_name> 1

To unset it, type the following:

	unsetenv <variable_name>

The  Install-EPSON  script  can  place  the  'setenv'  commands within your
S:user-startup  file  for  you.  To do so, select Expert User mode from the
initial installation screen.

You  will only need to use these if you find that the scanner does not seem
to work (for whatever reason) with the caches enabled.

DO  NOT  INITIALLY  PERFORM THIS OPERATION.  FIRST TRY THE SCANNER SOFTWARE
WITHOUT THIS VARIABLE DEFINED.

For  AmigaOS  1.3  users only:  To use environment variables, you must have
the  ENV:   assignment  assigned  to  RAM:ENV  directory.   Otherwise,  the
'setenv'  command  (which  initializes  this environment variable) won't be
able  to  execute  the command.  Also, if you want to remove this variable,
you  will  need to manually delete it from the ENV:  directory; there is no
equivalent for the AmigaOS 2.0 (or later) 'unsetenv' command.

                        Enhanced AGA Preview Screen

If  you  are  running  the scanner software on an AGA-equipped machine, you
will have the benefit of seeing your preview screen in 256 shades of gray.

Note  that  on  a  256  shade grayscale screen the scan box and its handles
might  not show up as clearly--some parts of the box might "disappear" into
the image.  This is normal and will be addressed in a future version.
