________________________________ | | | Wheel of Fortune version 1.33 | | December 31, 1989 | |_______________________________| This is a homebrewed Amiga version of the ever-popular TV game show. NOTES: 1. "Amiga" is a trademark of Commodore-Amiga, Inc. 2. "Wheel of Fortune" may be a trademark of Merv Griffin Enterprises. If it is, I hope Merv isn't mad about this. The TV show is much better than this computer game, and everyone should watch it every day and buy all the products of its sponsors. If Merv ever produces his own Amiga version of the game, you should immediately throw this one away and buy the official version as it will undoubtedly be much better. (OK, Merv?) __________________________ To play the game, you must make sure that the following files are in the same directory (or the root) as "Wheel of Fortune" itself: Puzzles (and Puzzles.info, if you want) Checkers } Beach } These are the Arctic } background pictures. Moon } wheel.config (if you have saved your favorite configuration - this is created when you save the configuration if it doesn't already exist) You can edit the "Puzzles" file with any text editor. The format will be obvious if you take a look at it. Of course, you can also throw it away completely (or rename it) and make your own, just so long as it's called "Puzzles" and is in the same directory as the program. If you do edit the Puzzles file or create a new one, you must follow the format of the Puzzles file supplied with this game EXACTLY. The program accounts for every character, and even an extra space at the end of a line will throw it off. Your best bet is probably to start with the enclosed file (or a copy of it) and edit from there. The maximum number of puzzles you can have in the file is about 500. It is OK to use clues other than those supplied so long as they have exactly six letters (including spaces); there's no guarantee that the host will pronounce other clues correctly, recognize plurals, etc. __________________________ Improvements in version 1.1 (July 30, 1988): 1. No longer locks up during speeches (I think). [This was wrong, unfortunately. It still did!] 2. Vanna! __________________________ Improvements in version 1.2 (August 18, 1988): 1. NOW it no longer locks up during speeches (I think and fervently hope). [This was still wrong. It still did. #@!!%$*&!?!] 2. The Vanna animation is a separate task so the game can continue while she's turning the letters. __________________________ Improvements in version 1.3 (December 8, 1988): 1. NOW IT REALLY AND TRULY NEVER EVER LOCKS UP AT ALL DURING SPEECHES! Never. Really. 2. Pause/Resume control. (Game menu) 3. Ability to start a new game anytime. (Game menu) 4. A requester for each player (Players menu) where you can set: (a) Whether the player is a computer or a human; (b) The name of the player; and (c) For computer players, their skill level. 5. Four (fairly silly) different scenes from which to choose. (Options menu) 6. Choice of six set colors for Vanna's outfit, or choose "?" to get a color at random; there are about 500 possibilities. (Options menu) 7. Option to turn Vanna off for faster play or if you just get sick of watching her lurch around. (Options menu) 8. Save feature for your choice of options. Once you have the game set up the way you want, select "Save" from the Options menu. This will create a file called "wheel.config." The next time the game is started, it will be configured the same way. 9. "Last Saved" item on the Options menu. Selecting this sets all the options as they were the last time you saved them. 10. "Default" item on the Options menu. This restores all of the options to their default status. __________________________ Improvement in version 1.32 (December 30, 1988): 1. Won't let you change scenes while Vanna is turning the letters (which trashes the screen). __________________________ Improvement in version 1.33 (December 31, 1989): 1. Added a timer which human players can use if they want. (Game menu). -------------------------- Plans for future versions: 1. Saving high scores to disk. 2. Saving game to disk. 3. Ability to load different puzzle files from within the game. 4. Better (digitized) sound and music. 5. More variety on the wheel (including Lose Turn and Free Spin) and different wheel setups for each round - just like the real thing. 6. ??? ______________________________ ACKNOWLEDGMENTS Thanks to: Sheldon Leemon for his C classes (This is my first real program.)
