The game will run on every AMIGA with at least 512 KB of chip memory. If your AMIGA has got more memory, some pictures and songs will be stored in memory so that they will not be loaded while gameplay. Although the game is able to multitask, you should not try it out because of the game speed. "Sneer" is Freeware. The authors are not responsible for any damages caused by this program. If you like the game, do not forget to copy this game to your friends! If you want to thank us, please send a postcard to: André Voget, Sonnenblick 16, 56428 Dernbach, Germany and to: Johannes Selbach, Bahnhofstraße 11, 56424 Staudt, Germany. If you want to get the sourcecode, send 30 DM or 30 US$ (only in cash) to André Voget, Sonnenblick 16, 56428 Dernbach, Germany. The sourcecode will show you how to write an 100 % multitasking game (e.g. how to use the "gameport. device"). ______________________________________________________________________________ II OPTION SCREEN If you have enough chip memory, the title song will be played. Press joystick up and down to select eight options: * [Play]: Press fire button to start the game. * [Difficulty]: If the gadget is on the left side, you will play an easy game. The righter the gadget, the more difficult the gameplay. This lets you determine the number of your lives and how fast the time will run down. * [Song/FX]: Here you can choose between three songs which will be played while playing the game. If you want to hear some soundeffects, select "FX". When you do not hear anything while playing the game, you should pump up the volume or buy some more chip memory :-)! * [Highscores]: Lets you admire the best 40 Sneer players. The highscore list is sorted by score. If you achieve a higher score than the 40th player, you will get into the list! * [Password]: Every fifth level you will get a so-called "password". It contains of five chars (or numbers) which should be entered here by using the joystick. * [Preset/User]: [Preset] lets you play the 100 built-in levels. If you choose [User], you can play your own levels (see "LEVELEDITOR"). * [Leveleditor]: Press fire to create your own levels. * [Info]: Some important informations. ______________________________________________________________________________ III THE GAME ITSELF The game: Collect all diamonds (tomatoes, cars, etc.) without crossing your own way. Sounds easy (or wrong, my english is not at its best :-) In the first level there is only one "collecting thing": the red ball right in the middle of the screen. Take it and you will enter the next level. If you go back and cross your walked way, you will lose one Sneer life. The first level is the easiest one and every player should manage it. The difficult levels will come later. The game is completed if you have collected all "collecting things" in the 100th level. Then you can admire the end of the game history (see chapter V, BACKGROUND). * THE GAME SCREEN: The playfield consists of 20x14 quadratic fields. Below there are some important information: the current level number, the number of your lives, the remaining time and your score. If the timecolour runs from fair green to dark-green, the word "PANIC" will light up. So don´t panic. * HOW TO SCORE: For the normal "collecting thing" (in the first five levels this is the red ball) you will get 50 points. "B" (like "bonus") will bring you 100 points. The bonus field needs not to be entered, you will only get some more points. Every fifth level you have to collect a key. Because the key is so important, you will get 555 points. We do not know why the key is so important. Why not?! When finishing the level, the remaining time will yield some points. You will get an extra life for 500.000 points (assuming that you have lost one life at least). * THE QUESTION-MARK: In some levels there is a question-mark. If you collect it, you will get more time or some points. Sometimes you will lose time or some points. In other cases you will get an extra life or you will jump to the next level. Seldom, you will lose one life. Decide for yourself if you want to collect the question-mark. * HINTS: (1) If you notice that you cannot solve the level, do not waste time and try to get as many points as you can. (2) If you want to initialize the highscore table, just delete the file "HSC" on your disk. When you quit the game, a new highscore table will be saved. (3) There is a secret combination of keys which you should press in the option screen. We will not reveal this combination but hopefully your AMIGA has a numeric pad. Having activated the cheat, you will be able to jump to the next level with the [+] key and jump back with the [-] key. Press [.] and you will jump ten levels forward. (4) If you want to watch the comic which appears after completing the last level, make 100 easy userlevels and play them. ______________________________________________________________________________ IV LEVELEDITOR With the help of the leveleditor, you can create 100 levels for your own or for your friends. To play your self-created levels, get to the option screen (chapter II) and set [Preset/User] to "User". You have to use the mouse to create your own levels. On the left, the gadgets represent the different field types: the blank field, the wall, the "collecting thing", the "b"onus, the key and Sam Smiley, our protagonist. Click on one of these gadgets and then on the playfield in order to place the field type. With the right mousebutton you can clear a field. The gadget [Clear] will clear the whole playfield. By clicking on the gadget [Swap], you are able to swap two levels. For example: If you want to swap level one with level nine, press the gadget in level one, change to level nine and press this gadget again. This gadget allows you to sort the levels depending on difficulty. You can change the level number with the help of the gadgets [+1], [-1], [+10] and [-10]. The last gadget on the right side will let you leave the leveleditor. Then the userlevels will be saved (named "ULV"). While saving each level will be tested for some criterias. There has to be at least one "collecting thing" in each level. Besides there can only be one question-mark in each level. Every fifth level there has to be one key, in all other levels there must not be a key. Otherwise the level will be cleared andbe replaced by a standard level. Please take care of the [Swap]-function, if you swap one level from or to a fifth (key-)level. ______________________________________________________________________________ V BACKGROUND (SNEER - HOW IT ALL BEGAN...) "In the last episode of our game, Sam Smiley rescued his favourite comic book from Herman Metal. Roy, his refrigerator, who was always depressed, collapsed at the end of the story, so Sam decided to go to a Tibetan monastery. There he tried to watch all episodes of the Springfield-Story without vomiting. During a commercial break, Sam realized that his brandnew Funny-Bugs-Wok had been stolen. Having watched the next ten commercials, Sam decided that it could only have been Herman Metal, the monstrosity of a blond, long-haired Metal-music-fan... At this moment, Sam concluded that he had to go back immediately to the mysterious labyrinth of this marvellous guy... Immediately after the next twenty episodes of the Springield-Story. Two weeks later, Sam stood in front of the mysterious labyrinth. Would he be able to get back his wok? Would Herman Metal be more dangerous than ever before? Would he survive that dangerous, really, really dangerous mission? Was Elvis a space alien? The power is in your hands. You are the only one to do this hard job. You are the raider of the lost wok... May the force be with you."
