Emerald Mine v6.00 Welcome to The Emerald Mine GAME, EDITOR, SHOW and TOOLS v6.00. This file contains the changes that have been made from v5.00 to v6.00. IMPORTANT NOTICE: Caves made with older versions of the editor WON'T work with v6.00 If you want to update your caves to the new version use the program v5_to_v6 that is on the toolsdisk. This program has it's own document. Read this before using the program. GENERAL First off all the most important change: -The game, editor and show are updated to the AGA chips of the new amiga's (A1200 etc). It now uses 64 colors and looks really great. We didn't abandon the people with an ECS amiga (A500 en A2000). This means there are two versions of the programs. One set is called AGAGAME, AGAMINE and AGASHOW for the people with AGA. The other set is called ECSGAME, ECSMINE and ECSSHOW. This set will run on all amiga's with at least 1MB of memory. EMERALD MINE GAME -There are lots and lots of new items in the game. a)The number of yams has been increased to eight. b)We have increased the number of doors and keys to eight. So start remembering which keys you have. c)We have introduced the GLASSES and the MAGNIFYING GLASS. Glasses show invisible walls for a certain amount of time. The magnifying glass does the same for the hard grass. d)Another new item is the SPRING. It can smash enemies just like stones but it has some springing attributes. When you push it, it will go on till it bumps against something. Then it will stop. However when it meets an alien the alien will be SLURPED by the spring and it dies an horrible death (poor guy). There are three kinds of springs. One that will stand still when the game starts and two others that will move RIGHT or LEFT when the game starts. When a spring meets a BUMPER it will be bumped right back where it came from. e)Also new is the MAGIC BALL. This Saturn-like object will release something regularly. Together with the ball there is a SWITCH that will turn it off and on. f)There is a new beastie in the game. He is an ANDROID and although sometimes very annoying he can be your best friend. He moves like a king in chess (that means all eight directions) and has one goal in life. Being as close to you as possible. You can push him away if he is too annoying. He is indestructible so stones and bombs won't hurt him. The only ways to get rid of him is either blowing him up with dynamite or drowning him in an acid basin. There is one other trick he can do besides loving you. He can CLONE. What does this mean you will ask? If he stands next to an alien and he is set to clone aliens he will make a new alien if there is free space. -Aliens will react to a wheel that is already turning when you start a cave. They didn't do this in earlier versions of the game. -We introduced the initial WIND direction. This means that when you play the cave the wind can already be blowing in a direction and the balloons move right away. On the bottom of the gamescreen you can see in which direction the wind is blowing. It is show by arrows on the right side of the screen. -We have changed the names of the highscore files and the caves. The caves used to be in the directory PLA. Now they are in the directory CAVE. The directory for the high scores has changed from HIS to HIGH. The caves used to be numbered from zero to 101 (81 single player caves and 21 special teamwork caves) and the high scores ranged from 0 to 161 (two times 81 for single and teamwork). Caves are now numbered from 00S to 80S and high scores from 00S to 80S for the single player caves. It is now possible to make a teamwork cave for all 81 caves. If you make one it's name will be 00T to 80T. There will be 81 high scores for teamwork named 00T to 80T. However! 160 caves won't fit on one disk. Unlucky. -The NAM file has been changed to NAMES. The OBJ file has been changed to Gfx-AGA for AGA and Gfx-ECS for those who play with the ECS version. -The scores and times in the highscore files have been made larger. Scores now run to 9999 points and you will see the real time now instead of the maximum of 255 seconds the game used to show. -When you are playing in the test mode from the editor and want to return to the editor you can press the BACKSPACE (grey arrow to the left) key. You can do this either from the menu screen (only when the cursor is on START) or while playing a cave. EMERALD MINE EDITOR -The function strip has been redesigned and there is a second one, because we had more functions in the editor than place on the strip. On top of the strip is HELP, click here if you need help with a function. Under HELP is NEXT that will toggle the two strips. Instead of clicking on NEXT you can also press the grey asterisk (the * on the grey keypad) We hope both strips are easy to understand but the HELP function should explain everything. -There are a lot of new items to place in your caves. Among them are eight different doors and keys, glasses and springs. Look at the top of this document in the GAMES part to read all about them. -The YAMEDIT screen now gives you the possibility to edit eight yams. The layout of this screen has changed to make room for all of them. -There is a new function for editing the MAGIC BALL. Go to this screen by either pressing the J key or clicking it on the function strip. Here you can say what will appear out of the magic ball, where it will appear and how long it takes. Last but not least you can tell the game if the magic ball starts working right away or if it is in rest mode, waiting for someone to pull the SWITCH. -In this version we also introduce the ANDROID editor. Either click on the android symbol on the function strip or press the letter K. On this screen you can tell this little friend what he has to clone, and how long he pauses in between two cloning efforts. You can also give him his speed here, from lightning fast to snail speed. -You can now edit in the border of the cave. This function is called FRAME-EDIT. This function is set to OFF when you start the editor but you can turn it on or off with the = key or by clicking in the box under the cave number. If there is a red cross in this box the function is OFF. -You can now test from the editor on an A500. Do this by starting MINETEST instead of ECSMINE. -You can only put ONE turning wheel in the cave and ONE in each yam because the game now reacts to them. -Owing to all the changes in the editor, SHOW has been given a big face-lift. Most of them are obvious but one isn't. You can get the next and/or previous cave in show by clicking on the >> or << symbols. You can also use the left and right cursor for this function. -All the requesters (the pop-up windows that ask a question) have been changed. They are easier to use and look a lot better. -The editor made a backup copy of your cave that had the name 102. This name has been changed to BAK. -The HELP function has improved lots. The way it works speaks for itself, but if you want to read all about it, look in the dox for the editor. -The time and score screen has got a lot of new items. Because of this we had to redesign this screen. The time gadgets have a new symbol in them: >> when you click on this it will say 9999. This means always. So if you do this with a wonderwall it will keep on running. There are a couple of new items: a)Initial wind direction: Start direction of the wind b)Value magnify : Points for taking a magnifying glass c)Value glasses : Points for taking a pair of glasses d)Slurping aliens : Point for aliens slurped by a spring e)Time magnify : How long will the magnifying glass work f)Time glasses : How long will the glasses work EMERALD MINE TOOLS Here is a description of all the new and changed tools in v6.00 -V5_TO_V6 This program changes your old v5.00 caves to the new v6.00 format. Before using it read the docs from this program! -ADDPIC2GAME One feature that is only available on the AGA version is the possibility to put a picture on the start page of the game. This little program will put an IFF picture of your choice in the game. See it's docfile to learn all about it. -NAMESED Just like we had namedit to change the nam file in v5.00, we have the program NAMESED to change the names file. -GAMENAME This utility will change the top three lines on the start screen of the game. It is very easy to use. Just start it and follow the onscreen instructions. -TIMEDOUBLE This one doubles the time of all caves or sets them to zero so you don't have to worry about the time you take playing a cave. It only works on diskettes. Start it and follow the instructions. -CLEARV6CAVES and CLEARV6HIGH The first one makes 81 empty single player caves the second one makes 162 empty high score files. Just follow the on screen instructions from both programs. -Gfxed-AGA or Gfedx-ECS Changing the graphics has been made very easy. For all objects in the game are a set of IFF-pictures that you can change with a program like DPAINT. After you have made your own graphics use Gfxed-AGA or Gfxed-ECS to move them to the game. -Rec6 This is a very handy tool when your amiga crashes while you are editing a cave. After the crash start this program and it will check the memory of your computer for caves. Every cave it finds will be put in RAM where you can copy it back to your floppy or harddisk. See the file Rec6.dox for a complete description. Have fun with all the new stuff No One Incorporated Ruppelware International Software
