OH-MY-GOD NUMBERS 'Oh-my-god numbers' are numbers that represent more than one value, and when you notice such a coincidence you just have to say 'Oh my god'. Frederik Pohl There are many numbers and equations that make you sure that this mess called Universe was made on purpose. Some of the examples I will give here can be found in a book "Beyond the blue event horizon" (the second part of "Gateway" written by Frederik Pohl). Now, lets get to it! 0.5 is angle diameter of both the Moon and the Sun viewed from the Earth. Without this there wouldn't be both moon and sun eclipses. -40 is the temperature that is same on Celsius and Fahrenheit scale. 2025 is sum of the cubes of first nine natural numbers (1^3+2^3+...+9^3) and it is also the square of their sum (1+2+...+9)^2. (Well, Mr Pohl made a little mistake here. It works with whatever numbers 1 to n you choose.) 1E39 (or 10^39 if you like) is proportion of gravity and electromagnetic forces, but it is also the age of the Universe expressed as an extradimensional number and square root of number of molecules in viewable part of the Universe (the one where the Hablo's constant is less than 0.5). 137 is Eddington's structure constant, which is very important in nuclear physics. But, 1/137 make 0.007 (Hi James Bond!), or if you want an better approximation: 0.0072992700 what is known as Clark's Palindrom (after A.C.Clark). That much from F.Pohl, but here come more from me. 3.141 592 653 589 793 238 462 643 383 279 502 88... These are the first 35 digits of Ludolf's number also known as PI that represents the proportion between diameter and length of a circle. Its most known approximation (3.14) also appears in gaseous constant 8.314 1/Kmol (that is called "eight point pi" in MIOC-Zagreb). Permeability of vacuum is, what a coincidence, 4E-7*Pi [Tm/A]. Avogardre's number 6.022E-23 has the same mantis as reciprocal of atomic mass constant (1.6605E-27) (Thanxs Xaver). That is not really a paradox of the Universe, because the only responsible for that are the silly chemists that always like to blow some of the formulas to make things more complicated. When talking about numbers, we cannot avoid these: 2.718281829 is the base of natural logarithm also known as e, and i is square root of -1, an imaginary number. Now when you take all four of the most problematic numbers in mathematics (-1, e, i, pi) you can put them together in, so called, Euler's equation: -1=e^(i*pi) More irationall numbers: square root of 2 is 1.414213562... I'm gonna tell you a trick to remember first eight digits. You start it with 1.4 then you have first 3 prim-numbers multiplied by seven: 2*7=14, 3*7=21, 5*7=35 what put together gives 1.4 14 21 35. Got it? If you take dielecticism and magnetic permeability of any matter and multiply them, it will make reciprocal square of speed of light in that matter. For vacuum: 8.854E-12*4E-7*pi=1.11263E-17 1/(2.998E8)^2=1.11259E-17 what makes mi0*epsilon0=1/c^2 If you sum first n odd numbers, the result will be square of n. That much for this article, since I cannot remember any more examples. If you know about any more 'Oh my god numbers', let me know. And two more things: 1) I think that there is some equation that gives 666 as the result but I can't remember it. Try to find it. 2) Do you know the way to measure the speed of light in any matter that is not transparent at all? The best idea wins a candy. ELF/PLS
