I'm going go about this backwards this month (hey its the kinda guy I am!) by telling you that next issue (everything crossed) I should be able to review some spanking new AGA games for the Amiga 1200. But never fear A500+/A600 owners (of which I will still be one), and anybody else with Workbench 2, or those with 1Mb of Chip RAM (there's too many Amiga's !!!) expect an ever increasing amount of reviews too. Its a fair cop I did promise a Syndicate review this iss', but what with one way and another (i.e money) it just hasn't happened. But reports I've heard are that it is jolly good and go and buy it now (if you're not a student that is). I won't be reviewing it next issue because it's getting a bit old now, and I want to bring you up to date reviews. Oooh enough of the excuses on with the news> ~~2Hyper news (CD 32 Special) Always on the look out for a bargain, Team 17 are releasing FOUR (!) of their games for CD 32 for the middle of October for only £14.99 each. Project X (ace shoot-em-up with ultra smooth scrolling, tons of action, and terrific sounds), Alien Breed (ditto, but this is a Gauntlet'esque type of game but a hell of a lot better), F17 (nice race game), and Quack (er, pass, this hasn't even been released for the other Amiga's yet!). So a big round of applause to Team 17 for that, right next... Microprose are merging with Spectrum Holobyte, which means for cash for Microprose, with plans for a CD 32 version of Impossible Mission, plus future releases include Subwar 2050 and Starlord. I'm gonna take a well earned nap now, take it away new contributor Steve Dawe !... ~~3Review: Turrican III By Factor 5 Well its been eons since the machine was destroyed (the big baddy in Turrican 2) but he's back and an aspirin and hot shower isn't gonna calm him down. You recieve a distress signal from a damsel and don your revamped suit to do battle. Lets face it the story line in these platform stroke shoot 'em ups isn't really important and never will be, but its the graphics and gameplay that count! After all if your little character doesn't jump fluidly over hazards and platforms your gonna lose interest real quick. This version of turrican isn't a whole lot better than the other two, you still get the same collectables as before, the lazer, bouncing shots, smartbomb. The only thing that is quite different is the replacement of the 360 degree gun with a sort off grapling hook which you can point and fire, then hang on and swing from. Using this you can get into obstructed rooms or across gaps, this in some way adds new elements to the old game but not many. One thing that struck me about the game was the graphics. They definately arn't as crisp as Turrican 2 and look a bit fuzzy in places almost as if the Gfx artist ran out of colours and had to do with the palette he had. This game could definiatly benefit from being AGA (Any game would -Ed) but sadly its not. So basically nice idea , a few extras, but the game isn't as good as Turrican 2. [Steve Dawe] ~~5HYPER-LARGE-TIPS ZONE This is the new part of the tips section you may or may not have been waiting for. It is for all formats of Digital Disk. I, [bc1am1], will be covering complete solutions for various games that take a while to complete. The tips are gonna be spread over a number of issues of Digital Disk. The first three games I will cover are the following: SPACE QUEST CHAPTER 1 : The Sarien Encounter SPACE QUEST CHAPTER 2 : Vohaul's Revenge HITCH HIKER's GUIDE TO THE GALAXY After I have finished with those three I will just have to see what else comes along. Since we review different games every issue, there are bound to be some that are big and require a lot of gaming hours before the player reaches completion. Therefore, I don't think this Hyper-Large-Tips section will be too short of games to cover. Anyway, let us begin with the first in my series... The complete solution to : SPACE QUEST CHAPTER 1 : The Sarien Encounter -------------------------------------------- I will write what the player's score should be at various points in the game next to the appropriate hint. That way you can use them as checkpoints, in other words, if you haven't got the score that is written by a particular hint at that point in the game, you will know that you may have done something wrong somewhere along the way. ---- 37.
