The Ultimate C64 Collection 2 ------------------------------- Life on the edge... Deadbeat is here to guide you through this doc file. Sooner than you thought, The Ultimate C64 Collection 2 has made it's way to your computer. Another disk closer to the perfection. Few more tunes and pictures less to worry about... If you're a smart guy, you can skip the next chapter (Exactly the same info section as in The Ultimate C64 Collection 1) without problems. How to play the tunes? How to show the pictures? Fairly easy. I'm sure all of you are by the date aware of the excellent point & click method of controlling your computer. But before this, you have two choices of starting up with this disk. (1) You can boot from this disk and no SetUp is required. Just open the directory on which you wish to operate and all your dreams come true. If you're holding Kickstart 2.04 or higher in your machine, you can use PlaySID 2.1 located as an icon in the main directory. For standard 1.3 machines you can still use PlaySID 2.0 Beta, which gets activated simply by clicking upon selected tune's icon. (2) You can boot using your hard drive/boot disk/whatever and getting into the workbench via there. Then you have to assign the required directories and paths by clicking upon the SetUp icon in the main directory of this disk. When you've satisfied, use the SetDown icon to get rid of everything and to restore re-routed paths into SYS:. Couldn't be any easier. Mostra takes care of showing pictures, you just click over the wanted picture's icon. Pressing space will get rid of the picture... This disk doesn't contain any of those "old school" tunes, such as ones made by Rob Hubbard and Martin Galway. Sorry to you if you were expecting something like that, but those oldies have been covered more than enough (Read : Many times!) in previous PlaySID disks. And besides, I'm getting sick of hearing those over and over again. Don't get me wrong, Rob and Martin are geniuses but not into infinity. Try to get out of the circle and hear some of the newer tunes made by current artists. They're not at all worse sounding than those featured in Rob's times - it's just that everybody has got used to hearing sample-filled tunes (Especially if having sold the C64 many, many years ago) and therefore knowing only how to listen the old tunes. Hopefully you got my point. To make one more example, I could say that if one of those tunes made by Rob - or anybody else of your old favourites - which you haven't heard before, would be featured to you today, it'd sound shit but if a similar tune - which you've heard zillion times already - would be played, it'd be still just as great. It's all just a question of getting used to something. The long, high quality synthesizer-originated samples used to create a tune DON'T guarantee a GOOD tune. Using Protracker and lots of samples is an easy way of making some tunes fast, but try to do the same by NOT using long samples, fully based on melody and technique! This is where the C64 tunes have always beaten Amiga's similar creations. If you find my words hard to understand, that's simply because you're a NEWCOMER and probably never have had a C64. Yeah sure, you're been sooooo long in the scene (6 months is a lot nowadays) but if you can say you started in 1986 or earlier, then it's something. Never forget that one REAL C64 freak equals ten normal Amiga dudes, which can be found thirteen in a dozen. That's does it all for this time, to be seeing you later on somewhere. Possibly on the C64 when Technophobia 2 gets released. (That is, IF I get the demo ready before 10th June '93 - that's the day I'll have to go to the fucking army - Argh I h8 it! - If that's not possible, I'm afraid the demo is going to delay until... Who knows!) Have fun with these awesome tunes & pictures. - Deadbeat/The Sharks ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- For trading C64/C128/Amiga wares write to: Deadbeat/The Sharks Timo Rönkkö Linjakuja 3 SF-74120 Iisalmi Finland ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Call these boards now: *** MASTER & SERVANT *** +49-(0)6106-5468 / +49-(0)6106-PRiVATE (THE SHARKS WHQ (C64) - QUARTEX HQ (Amiga, PC, SNES)) Where the old scene spirit remains & more than just file x-fers! *** DEEP THOUGHT *** +358-(9)77-51252 / +358-(9)77-FRiENDS (THE SHARKS FINHQ (C64) - CHRYSEIS EHQ (Amiga) Where having fun is mandatory! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- P.S. The color adjustment on your monitor/t.v. might have to be slightly decreased to make the C64 pictures look like real ones. The Amiga's video output seems to have slightly higher quality.
