The Ultimate C64 Collection ----------------------------- Another one of those PlaySID disks has made it's way to your computer. I'm sure you all are already familiarized yourselves with this concept. The only difference over the previous efforts of converting the C64 tunes to the Amiga is that my collection has (In my opinion) the best tunes yet converted. As you might remember, the previous PlaySID disks have only featured tunes from old demos and even older games by the date. I intended to change it by converting the freshest tunes from the C64, and here it is. The best collection ever. I transfered and converted over 100 tunes, and what you see is left on this disk, is what was in my opinion good enough to make it's way to this ULTIMATE collection. You MIGHT see The Ultimate C64 Collection II, when I have an sufficient amount of _excellent_ material to be released. But that's still way in the future... Not every tune gets so high on my scales! How to play the tunes? How to show the pictures? Fairly easy. I'm sure all of you are by the date aware of the excellent point & click method of controlling your computer. But before this, you have two choices of starting up with this disk. (1) You can boot from this disk and no SetUp is required. Just open the directory on which you wish to operate and all your dreams come true. If you're holding Kickstart 2.04 or higher in your machine, you can use PlaySID 2.1 located as an icon in the main directory. For standard 1.3 machines you can still use PlaySID 2.0 Beta, which gets activated simply by clicking upon selected tune's icon. (2) You can boot using your hard drive/boot disk/whatever and getting into the workbench via there. Then you have to assign the required directories and paths by clicking upon the SetUp icon in the main directory of this disk. When you've satisfied, use the SetDown icon to get rid of everything and to restore re-routed paths into SYS:. Couldn't be any easier. Mostra takes care of showing pictures, you just click over the wanted picture's icon. Pressing space will get rid of the picture... I've paid particular attention in converting the original C64 palette to an Amiga format. Converting the picture itself isn't such a pain in the arse, it's the palette that makes the converted pictures look ugly. I can say the palette is closer than ever seen before, but somehow the palette looks more colourful than on the real C64. Maybe an 100 percent accurate C64 palette could be acquired using an Amiga 1200 (Well, what else?)... Anyways, hopefully you enjoy these few pieces of both aural and visual art. - Deadbeat/The Sharks ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- For trading C64/C128/Amiga wares write to: Deadbeat/The Sharks Timo Rönkkö Linjakuja 3 SF-74120 Iisalmi Finland ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Call these boards now: *** MASTER & SERVANT *** +49-(0)6106-5468 / +49-(0)6106-PRiVATE (THE SHARKS WHQ (C64) - QUARTEX HQ (Amiga, PC, SNES)) Where the old scene spirit remains & more than just file x-fers! *** DEEP THOUGHT *** +358-(9)77-51252 / +358-(9)77-FRiENDS (THE SHARKS FINHQ (C64) - CHRYSEIS EHQ (Amiga) Where having fun is mandatory! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- P.S. If you have a C64 and you wish to get some tune(s) back into the REAL C64's memory, why not checking out the self-extracting file PData.RUN in the C directory of this disk? It contains instructions for building a data transfer cable plus a transfer utility for both ends. Two first bytes need to be re-inserted into each tune, since they've been stripped. Original loading address can be acquired from each tune's .info file. P.P.S. If you shouldn't have a C64 of your own, please consider buying one. It's still the best computer there is (Well, at least in my eyes) - maybe not technically (Since the Amiga has that award already) but because of it's SPIRIT. Greetings to all our partners in crime on the IMMORTAL C64. P.P.P.S. Lame-test of the month : Let's say you heard some of the tunes on this disk. Let's say you didn't like them at all. Let's say you said the sample-filled Amiga crap is better. Let me say you're a LAMER. P.P.P.P.S. Also remember to support these kewl asskicking boards...
