Orlando (Orlando Budelacci) and Chester (Andre Schelker) of Brainstorm.\LF\LF \F4Before we answer any questions we want to declare that this is the only interview we will give in a scene-magazine concerning ZINE and what has happened to it. Forget what you've heard about ZINE in the past and also forget what, and this is important, WE told you about it, because:\BF THIS IS THE TRUTH!\NM\LF\LF \F3\C3In the last issue you changed the design and the code. Did you at that time imagine that you are going to use the new ZINE only once?\LF\LF \C2No! First Orlando decided to stop doing it, but Chester and Axel still wanted to continue ZINE. Chester got lazy and had problems with girls (with three of them) and decided to stop, too. At least the only person who still wanted to do something for ZINE was Axel. He would have liked to continue it, but it is impossible to organize the whole ZINE-crap alone and we don't want to see a ZINE-issue without our contribution. ZINE was our (Chester's and Orlando's) little baby and we won't give it away...\LF\LF \C3If a famous mag asks you whether they could continue ZINE, what do you answer?\LF\LF \C2NO! ZINE without Orlando & Chester is NOT ZINE.\LF\LF \C3What are you going to do with all those NOT used articles?\LF\LF \C2Oh sorry, we can't give them to you... The articles and advertisements we got after issue 11 (the last one) have been, like George Orwell would say, vaporized. They don't exist anymore... Of course we didn't throw away the disks, we're still using them.\LF In every issue of ZINE we only published approximately 15% of the articles we received. The rest simply wasn't good enough and mostly talking about absolutely boring topics. \C1We surely do know that we published also articles that weren't too good,\C2 but in no comparision to what other magazines publish or published.\LF\LF \C3Why did you release Headline-intros?\LF\LF \C2To make ZINE more popular and to give more people our address for the possibility to order ZINE and to publish advertisements and because we liked doing something beside the normal ZINE-work and to fulfill the ZINE-fever...\LF\LF \C3If you had turned the time back to the time when you decided to start ZINE. If you had the choice today would you start ZINE again?\LF\LF \C2When we look back now, we don't repent of having spent time of our precious and valuable lifes to do something creative. \C1Publishing a mag and knowing that other people liked it surely enriched our lifes\C2 (living in a vacuum is impossible, if no one enriches your atmosphere!) and gave us the satisfaction that we're doing something special. Everyone \C1(you, too!)\C2 likes being in the focus of attention and we enjoyed it. (Why should we NOT be proud of what we achieved?\C1 Success is great and everyone wants to have it,\C2 even if almost no one confesses that he wants it!). Progress in life consists of analysing the past and drawing the RIGHT inferences for the future. ZINE is a part of our past-life and we don't want to live without the experiences we made while doing it... The past is a part of the future!\LF\LF \C3Are there some things you would have done with ZINE in another way, when you think back now?\LF\LF \C2No matter how good you are, there is always something to improve. ZINE wasn't too bad, but we weren't satisfied with the result... \C11.\C2 The use of the English language was good compared to other mags, but still not good enough... \C12.\C2 Too much articles were boring and not interesting... \C13.\C2 Distribution by a big firm would have been great... ...and in general we could have done everything better than it was, but who cares anyway??? \C1ZINE was ZINE\C2 (including the mistakes) and nothing else... Next time we'll try to do it better...\LF\LF \C3Did you feel that ZINE changed anything in the scene?\LF \C2ZINE started the disk-mag boom. (ZINE was like oil that you fill in a tank. ZINE filled the whole tank... the more oil you put in the tank the more oil doesn't stay in the tank. There is too much oil for the little tank. \C1All the disk-mags at the moment probably wouldn't exist without ZINE.\C2 O.k. CJ, Exceller 8 and Penis were first, but ZINE showed that it's possible to improve the disk-mag idea. A till this moment nearly unknown group (BRAINSTORM is the name of it) became famous and that's why many other unknown groups tried and try to become famous in the same way. The only difference is that we really had new ideas and that we didn't copy already existing mags. Look at all the mags around these days, they are more or less CHEAP copies of ZINE! (R.A.W. is the best proof for this assertion! Just have a look at it and compare it with ZINE!)\LF\LF \C3Some of the best graphicians, musicians and a very good coder contributed to ZINE. Did you always try to make the best ones work for ZINE?\LF\LF \C2We always wanted ZINE to be something special. That's why we asked other talented people to help us. We especially again want to thank Chaos of Sanity for his really great work for ZINE... thanks! What do you think about magazines in general?\LF\LF \C2When we started ZINE there were only a few other magazines around (CJ, Exceller 8, Penis). ZINE was something new in the disk-mag scene and that's why we were successful. \C1We had new ideas and wanted to prove that we were able to create something better than the CJ.\LF\LF \C2Nowadays disk-mags aren't something to look out for. With ZINE #11 the disk-mag-idea reached its \BFclimax.\NM There aren't any more topics to write about and the coding can't be improved very much. After having released 11 ZINE issues there is almost nothing to write about anymore. The scene is too limited to talk about every two months. Only the news-part would be worth publishing, the rest repeats regularly.\LF\LF \C3Is ZINE completely dead or is it possible that we will see another issue in the future?\LF\LF \C2The ZINE-magazine is without any doubts \BFDEAD!\LF\LF \CT\C1\F2\XX
