ËÉCENSORSHIP AND -> YOU! <-

This  series  of  articles has to do
with   the   ever  raging  surge  of
censorship in the music industry and
in  our  other forms of free speech.
If  you  have  visited a music store
recently,  you have probably noticed
more and more albums, compact discs,
and  cassettes  with a label slapped
on   it,   that   reads,  "ÉWARNING
EXPLICIT  LYRICSÈ",  or,  "ÉPARENTAL
ADVISORYÈ".   What  I will try to do
with  these series of articles is to
make  more  people  aware  of  these
infringments  on  our  right to free
speech    and    our    freedom   of
expression!    Art  and  music  have
always   reflected  certain  things,
that  have  gone  wrong or unjust in
our  society  at  any time.  This is
what   makes   Art   and   Music  so
important   to  all  people  of  all
countries,  without  it, we lose our
individuality,  a way to express our
personal  thoughts,  anger, sadness,
and  happiness.   What  follows  now
will  be  the first section of these
articles  in  this  issue of RAW!, a
history  of  the  "Decade Of British
Smothermummy"  the  slow decent into
censorship,  and more and more power
of the central goverment in Britian.

Ê1980 :È  The Employment Act, first of
several attacks on the right to
strike is passed.

Ê1982  : È  Britian sends a task force
to the South Atlantic to reclaim
the Falkland Islands.

The  BBC scraps plans to show a film
about Pearl Harbour.

A  documentary  about nuclear war is
deemed "inappropriate".

The old black and white comedy, "The
Petticoat    Pirates",   is   banned
because it features a mutiny.

The  BBC  are attacked as "traitors"
for   daring   to   put  Argentinian
viewpoint in a news program.

Wounded,    maimed    and   crippled
Falklands   veterans   are   refused
permission  to  attend  the  victory
parade.

Ê1983  :È   Lord  Lane, the Lord Chief
Justice,  calls for the abolition of
the  right  of trial by jury.  (This
right  does  not  exist  in Northern
Ireland.)

Ê1984   :È   Unions  banned  at  GCHQ.
Anti-Nuclear  activist Hilda Murrell
murdered.   (The  security  services
are   widely   suspected  of  having
killed her.)

Ê1985  :È   MI5 agent, Cathy Massiter,
reveals  that trade unions, the NCCL
and the peace movement are all under
MI5  observation.  After complaining
about this to her superiors, she was
told to see a psychiatrist.

Civil Servant Clive Ponting narrowly
escaped  imprisonment  for  exposing
goverment lies about the Falklands.
 
BBC  board  of  governors  ban "Real
Lives", a documentary about Northern
Ireland.

provoking!  You may or may not agree
or  believe the information in these
articles, but, then again, ÉTHE TRUTH
IS  SOMETIMES  HARD TO BELIEVE!È  The
