2 8 abd 09a 46b ÊRecent books È King is one of the worlds most productive horror-writers, every year one or two novels are published. Under follows the most recent releases: ÊThe Dark Tower: È A wild west/fantasy story about Roland, "The Last Gunslinger" and his quest to kill an evil magician. The story is released in 6 parts and every part advances his quest to the Dark Tower, where an evil magician is living. ÊThe Dark Half: È A story about Tad Beumont, a successive author,who has a terrifying problem: His most famous bookcharachter is killing people in the real world! ( Wow! Really? Ed.) And it's leaving only Thad's bloody fingerprints as evidence. Though no one believes him, Thad knows that he is innocent... ÊThe Stand: È The same story as the 1978-book but this time uncut and illustrated. ÊFour past midnight: È Four different stories. One of them about a plane, which passengers disappears, leaving only their tooth-fillings and pacemakers behind ! ÊNeedful Things: È King's latest novel. A little shop opens up in Castle Rock, it has all you ever dreamed of, but at nerve-- shattering prices ! ÊMovies È Nearly every King novel has been filmed, and he has written several screenplays himself and even directed once (Maximum Overdrive). And even a Richard Bachman book as been filmed, THE RUNNING MAN, with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the leading part. Most of these movies' screenplays are written by others, sometimes with a good result and sometimes not that good. Many famous directors have tried to copy the gripping and exciting stories from the books to film. Names like Brian DePalma, Stanley Kubrick, Tobe Hopper, John Carpenter (Prince of Darkness ), Rob Reiner and Tommy Lee Wallace (Halloween 3). Though many of these movies aren't half as good as the respective books, three movies sticks out. Rob Reiner's two Stephen King-movies STAND BY ME and MISERY are probably the best. STAND BY ME was Oscar-nominated and Kathy Bates, who had a leading part in MISERY, got Oscar as best female actor. The third movie that sticks out from the crowd is, in my opinion, THE SHINING, with excellent Jack Nicholson in the leading part as a psychopath. Worth mentioning is probably also CARRIE which gave Piper Laurie (Known from the Twin Peak-series) Oscar as best supporting actress. More movies will come. Rumors has it that THE STAND with John "Hunt for Red October" McTiernan as director and Sean "Bond" Connery in the leading part, is under development. THE DARK HALF is probably also under development, and the same goes with THINNER, the Richard Bachman book. If you take a walk down to your video-store you will also find GRAVEYARD SHIFT, based upon the novel- collection NIGHT SHIFT. Well, that's all I think.
