favourites.   The  first  was  Willy
Lange of Laaz Rockit, but he decided
to  stay  with the group.  The other
one  was Jason Newsted, who had been
playing  for  Flotsam  &  Jetsam,  a
promising    group   from   Phoniex,
Arizona.   After testing his playing
abilities,  he  was offered the job,
and played his first gig on November
8,   1986.   Jason  was  immediately
accepted by the Metallica-fans.

After  playing  in  front of 200.000
people,  at  the  Monsters  of  Rock
Festival  for  the second time, they
released  a  five-track  mini  album
called  "The  5.98  EP  Garage  Days
Re-Revisited".   The album contained
the    following   cover   versions:
"Crash   Course  in  Brain  Surgery"
(Budgie), "Helpless" (Diamond Head),
"Last  Caress/Green Hell" (Misfits),
"The  Small  Hours"  (Holocaust) and
"The Wait" (Killing Joke).


ÊTHEIR FIRST VIDEO

Metallica  didn't believe in videos,
because they meant it would harm the
relationship with their fans, and so
they  decided  on  releasing  a home
video  made  by  their fans.  On 4th
December,  the  "Cliff'Em  All" Home
Video   was   released,   containing
recordings     from     the    Cliff
Burton-period  (82-86)  taken by the
fans  themselves.   The  success was
gigantic  !   By the end of 1988, it
was  the most sold Home Video in 
all !


Ê...AND JUSTICE FOR ALL

The  band  now  decided  that it was
time  for another album.  After some
producing  problems they returned to
the faithful Flemming Rasmussen (the
guy  behind "Ride The Lightning" and
"Master  of  Puppets"),  and  in the
beginning of May, 1988, their fourth
album was ready.  It was released in
September,  and  Metallica, faithful
to  their  fans as always, went on a
European  tour.  The tour ended with
a party to celebrate "...And Justice
For All"'s Gold and Platinum records
!  The celebration didn't last long,
as  Metallica  couldn't betray their
American  fans, and on 15th November
the American tour kicked off.

In  the  meantime,  both  "One"  the
single  and  "One"  the  video,  was
released.  It later sold to Platinum
in the U.S.

After  the  "Damaged  Justice"-tour,
Lars,  James,  Kirk and Jason took a
long  vacation,  only interrupted by
some gigs here and there.
ÊTHEIR LATEST ALBUM

The   band  had  now  recovered  the
strength  necessary to start working
on   a   new   album,  and  in  late
September    1990,    they   started
recording  together  with  their new
producer  Bob  Rock.   The album was
released,  after  several delays due
to  remixes in August this year.  In
addition  to  the  album, one single
was released:  "Enter Sandman" and a
video   to   the   track.    In  the
beginning   of  November  they  also
released    the    video   to   "The
Unforgiven".

The   album  quickly  conquered  the
charts  worldwide  and will probably
become        the       best-selling
Metallica-record ever !

As  always  when  they release a new
album,  they  kick  off with a tour.
This  time  with  "Monsters  of Rock
tour   1991"  together  with  AC/DC,
around  Europe playing for thousands
of headbangers.


Puh !  That's all...for now.  'Cause
Metallica  will never let their fans
down,  and  will  keep  on producing
awesome   records  with  Heavy-metal
that  no  one  can  copy.  Metallica
