Supplements To The Manual 10.3.97 ================================= New Features in V3.00 ===================== - Denoising function: Eliminates hum, noise and tape hiss without reducing the audio quality. Simply copy a part of the sample into the Clip (key c), which contains only the unwanted noise (Noiseprint method). Then mark the range over your material (key a) and activate the Denoiser menu! - Convolution: With convolution it is possible to move properties of one audio file to another. This is useful to create natural sounding reverbs, filter effects and much more. For a first impression load the "rev_1.RAP" using the l key and copy the data into the clipboard. Now select another project and mark a range. Activate the convolutioon function now and select 50% original material! It is even possible to sample the sound of any effects device and use the impuls response to reproduce the effects later without the need of the device! - Compressor: The dynamics effects are completely redesigned - so they are now in true studio quality. A graphics display shows the actual Ratio and Threshold settings. - MIDISys: The MIDISys window is no longer needed for Samplitude, as long as you do not access MIDI or SMPTE functions. If you want to use these functions, please run the MIDISys first, then start Samplitude! - Prelude Support: Samplitude supports now the new 16 Bit sound card "Prelude". Please copy the "prelude.library" and "sekdprelude.library" into your libs: folder and reboot. Then switch to Prelude in the System dialog (key g) and save the settings! - Math Coprocessor: Because of Samplitudes new high level audio functions (Denoising, Convolution, Dynamics) Samplitude SMPTE V3.0 needs the mathematical coprocessor or the 68040 or 68060 processors with build in coprocessors. Maestro Modes ============= Because there comes no documentation with MacroSystems MaestroPro board here is a short description of the different Maestro modes in the Samplitude System window: Maestro Output - These Buttons specify what happens while Samplitude is not playing. Silence - Output of digital silence (0s). Original - Outputs the signal of MaestroPro input directly without any changes. Maestro - Same as "Original" but if a copy protect bit exists it is removed. Copy Protect Bit: Normally there is a copy protect bit to forbid the creation of more than one generation of digital copies. With the help of the Maestro Pro board you are able to filter the copy protect bit. Please do the following steps: - Start Samplitude, load a 16 bit sample and play it in MPro mode. This is necessary to initialize the Maestro Pro board. - Open the system window (g), select "Maestro Studio Mode>On" and "Maestro Output>Maestro". If "Maestro" is already activated for "Maestro Output" please select "Original" and toggle back to "Maestro". Now the input signal is transmitted to the Maestro Output - but the copy protect bit is removed. So it is possible to copy CDs or DAT tapes digitally without sampling them completely. In addition it is also possible to quit Samplitude, the copy mode keeps active as long as the Amiga is running. Maestro Studio - No output of the copy protect bit. Maestro Input - Here you can choose between optical and coaxial input of the MaestroPro board. Loop - If MPro In is connected with DAT Out and MPro Out with DAT In (loop) disturbances may occur while playing. If this button is active you can avoid problems. External Output - You can choose the Toccata or MaestroPro board for external ouput. Note that the appropriate button in the sample parameter window is always named "TOCC"! Mix Volume ========== There is also a setting of the project volume in steps of 6 dB. This volume setting is important for multitrack projects since the sum of all digital tracks may not exceed 16 bites (0 dB). Each track of a 8 track project must be reduced by 2 bit's (12 dB). In the real world application, tracks are often not recorded or played back at the maximum level so that the reduction can be adjusted accordingly. However, raising the volume reduction setting may result in clipping. SMPTE Synchronization ===================== Please use only the Toccata or MaestroPro board for your work with SMPTE to get perfect results. -Synchronized Recording: Keep on mind that your SMPTE source has to run before you open the Toccata record window. Otherwise SMPTE disturbances in the SMPTE recognition may occur. Installation ============ Attention! The Samplitude disk is not bootable. To start Samplitude installation you must boot from a HD or from a Workbench disk. If you want to install Samplitude on a hard disk use the HD Installer. Otherwise you have to copy Samplitude-SMPTE:libs/req.library to libs: and Samplitude- SMPTE:runback to c:. An assign sekd: with the program "MIDISys" in it is required - type assign sekd: Samplitude-SMPTE: in your Shell window or startup-sequence/user-startup. HD Install ========== There is an easy to use HD Installer on the installation disk which copies the required files to your hard disk. After booting from your hard disk start the program HD Install (double click). Enter user data and complete paths for the installation (work:music/sekd - not music/sekd). Both paths for programs and for projects must be specified. Note that these paths must exist before HD Install is started. Some command lines will be added to your user-startup or startup-sequence in the s: directory automatically through HD Install. If you use HD Install another time you should remove older entries in this file with the help of a text editor. Supplements To The V2.10 Manual =============================== -If you double click on an object in object mode the appropriate physical project will be opened. If it is open its window will be activated. Click another time to get back control to move the object. -For playing HD projects there is an useful "Preload" procedure: Some data from the beginning of the file will be loaded into RAM. So HD projects and VIPs can be started without any delay. This is important especially for the cooperation with Mignon. The Preload procedure is activated by ctrl+space. A window appears. Now you can start playing through the button on the window, space, MIDI SONG START or external start from Mignon. If Mignon is running in multitasking with Samplitude select "SEND" for "SYNC". So Samplitude receives all start/stop commands. -To get a HD project out of a RAM project do the following: Select "HD" for clipboard in "Setup>System". Copy the whole RAM project to the clipboard (range over all through "a", "c" for copy to clip). Hit ESC for displaying the clipboard window. Save the project with another name. -Crossfading: The menu "Editing" offers the new item "Crossfade". With the help of this function you can fade from one sample (or from a part of it) to another. The actual physical project will be dissolved with the clipboard contents. Use crossfading to make perfect loops: 1.Position a cursor at loop start (2), another one at loop end (3). 2.Mark the range in front of the loop which you want to crossfade with - use another cursor (1). 3.Make a range out of cursor positions 1 and 2: click on cursor 1, hold down shift key and click on cursor 2. 4.Copy range to clip (c). 5.Activate loop end through click on cursor 3. 6.Select "Crossfade" in the "Editing" menu. -Positioning Cursor At Zero Passing: It is useful to position the cursor exactly at a zero passing, e.g. before crossfading... Do the following: 1.Press left shift + left Alt + 4 (numeric keys) while cursor is activated. A short range appears between cursor and next zero passing. 2.Store new cursor through shift + figure (alpha keys). -Mix Function: The sample parameter window offers a volume slider for each track of a project. Please note that volume changes are possible only in 6dB steps on Toccata and MaestroPro boards. While playing with changed volume settings more computing power is needed. To save resources push all sliders to maximum level. In mono projects no special volume controlling is performed. In this case it is easier to change volume in the ToccataControl window. -Bouncing: In the menu "Object" you can find an item "Bouncing". You can use it to get a 16bit stereo HDP out of a 8 track VIP. So you can save a lot of computing power. In addition you can use more tracks than a VIP makes it possible.
