Tuning packet frequencies on the FDK-700E
           =========================================

This modification is for frustrated owners of the FDK Multi-700E 2m FM rig, who can't get it to tune down to Packet frequencies. The radio covers fifty 25kHz channels, fron 145.975MHz down to 144.750MHz. Not a lot of good for 144.650 and 144.675!

The modification is simple, free and easily reversible.

First, remove the bottom panel of the rig (that's the one with the speaker mounted on it). Then remove crystals X2 and X4, swap them round, and plug each one back in the other's socket. Replace the bottom panel.

The rig is now ready for use, but in Simplex mode it will transmit and
receive on a frequency which is 600KHz LOWER than that which is shown on the display. This means that, for example, the radio shows 145.250 when you are on 144.650, and shows 145.275 for a true frequency of 144.675! In effect the frequency coverage has been shifted down 600KHz and is now 145.375 to 144.150. The repeater shift is somewhat strange, but it is only five minutes work to swap things back. Easy, eh?

Hopefully this will help a few more radios, that were possibly thought to be unusable on Packet frequencies, to be pressed into good use.
