                          THE THIRD DIMENSION

REVIEWS.

Last month it was was Atari reviews, this month we seem to have
a few Amiga reviews.

DEVILS ABODE

Devils Abode 3D horror adventure. Amiga ( A1200 recommended or
accelerated A500/+/600).Plays fine but slower on 16 bit
machines (e.g.- A500 etc).

Created by Tony Hartley using kit 2.Large playable demo available
from the Third Dimension PD which is nearly a full game in itself.
The full game is only œ2.99!

This was featured in the Third Dimension 3 hour video where
some of the routines were explained. The game features crushing
walls,dropping ceilings,dragons,pits,swinging pendulums,secret
doors,puzzles,ghosts,sampled speech and lots more.

There are animations, brushes, video sequences and lots of
other kit 2 routines used in this game.I think the game is
excellent (but i would say that because i made it).Mieke has
tried the demo and she really enjoyed it too and gave me some
really good head swelling comments. It must be good because
17 bit software's Rob( I don't like 3D kit games ),has placed it
into his PD library.Try it for yourself and see.

SEASHARK created for the Amiga A1200 by James Straker.

This is an underwater adventure created using kit 2 and the
completed demo version will be available next month from the
Third Dimension PD Library.

First impressions.
A very impressive game with a well drawn border which is very
technical.Visually stunning!

More detailed explanation.
The land areas are quite stunning and the border looks quite
complicated with all of its controls, icons and brushes popping up
everytime you activate something. There are warning lights and
noises going off when you do things wrong and James has used the
swimming animated shark to good effect in some areas. When you are
under the ocean, you have to make use of the navigation equipment
and don't be surprised if a gun tracks you then shoots.

3D specific.
Great use has been made of the brushes in kit 2,animations and
mode switching. The border functions very well with a nice sized
view window and the objects used are very well drawn. There are
lots of animations and some great finishing touches to the game.

Summmary
An extremely good looking very playable underwater adventure.

Operation Thunderbolt by Antony Quinn.A1200 recommended!

This is a kit 2 game of which a playable game demo is readily
available with full intro etc from the Third Dimension PD library.

First impressions
Great intro/instructions,objects and a nice border.

More detailed explanation.
The use of colour is excellent and very atmospheric. The 3D areas
are very well drawn and the border is just right.Having said
that,I didn't notice a centre button on the border ( or have i
missed it? ) which i always find essential when you have got into
a funny view angle and need a quick centering button.
The game seems to have a good plot which you will find out about
when you play the game.

3D specific.
The border has a nice size view window and features a
brushanim of a gentleman looking around, which i thought was a
neat touch. The doors have a nice sample when opened and are fully
animated sliding affairs. There are robotic objects which shoot at
you throughout the areas, which i thought were a little too easy to
kill but thats just my personal view.Everything is well drawn and
the demo seems to be a high quality demonstration of a very good
game.

I must point out that the game locked up on me twice when i faced
a certain direction but this can easily be cured ( most of the
time ) by increasing the Buffer Size.

Summary.
All in all.An excellent game demo that should be tried by everyone
with an Amiga. If Antony can iron out the lockup problem then this
should be one excellent game when the full version when is completed.

......Tony
