LEAGUE SOCCER CARDS ©1994 Stephen Corry A FROZEN ICE PRODUCTION IMPORTANT NOTICE This AMOS game has been released into the POSTERWARE/SHAREWARE market! The programs and files on this disk must NOT in anyway be changed or altered. You may make copies of the game using programs such as X-Copy, and can give them to all your friends, who can thus give copies to all their friends. But if you do play the game and like it (I hope you do), because of all the hard work I've put into its creation - if you're feeling generous, please spare some POSTERS or CASH (£5 English/Eire), and mail it C/- the address below, along with any comments about the game that you may have. I am interested in posters of Rebekah Elmaloglou (Sophie in Home And Away), Dannii Minogue and Tina Arena (Two hot Australian singers). Thank you very much, and enjoy the game... FORWARD So, what's new in V1.1 - The game play is the same, but I've added some new artwork that will hopefully make winning the Premiership a little more rewarding. INTRODUCTION Welcome to LEAGUE SOCCER CARDS - the best version to date, and the final in the trilogy of the Soccer Cards series. First there came Soccer Cards - based on the English FA Cup championship (and later the role model for Tim Blacklock's Premier Picks). Next came Soccer Cards US94 - a much improved version of the above game, this time based on the 1994 World Cup in the USA. Now comes League Soccer Cards - the greatest version ever! LETS BEGIN There have been a lot of changes made to this new version, so even die hard Soccer Cards fans (if any do exist!) should read on. THE LEAGUE There are a total of 8 divisions (4 league and 4 non-league), each containing 6 teams each, making a total of 10 games a season. Because of the continuous changes in league sponsorship - and to avoid copyright hassles - the 4 non-league divisions have fictitious names, though they do in every way represent the existing divisions. During the game, each player will be represented by a particular colour. The little people on the Menu screen don the correct colours for each player. UPS AND DOWNS Simple really - the top team goes up, the bottom team goes down. The player whose team ends the season bottom of the lowest non-league division (the MANDY LEAGUE) will be sacked. Here, if there is just 1 player playing the game, the game will end, and you will be returned to the opening MENU screen. If more than 1 player has been selected, the computer will take control of the team whose player has been sacked. WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ORDER SIR/MADAM? Upon loading, you will be presented with a MENU featuring 3 items, as I will now describe... 1> LOAD PREVIOUSLY SAVED GAME - Kinda speaks for itself hey! When you select this option, click on the drive that you wish to load from. 2> PLAYERS - The number of players currently selected to play is indicated by a red number. Click on the appropriate little person to change the player numbers. Up to 6 players can compete at the same time!!! 3> SELECT TEAMS - This option is described below. SELECTING YOUR TEAMS On this screen you have 3 options. 1> EDIT TEAM NAMES - If your favourite team isn't listed, click on this option. You enter a new club by clicking on the appropriate letters (Max 12 CHRs ONLY). The options here allow you to 'DELETE' the last letter, 'CANCEL' the whole operation (therefore restoring the previously selected team), and 'ENTER TEAM' which is quite blatantly obvious!!! 2> MENU - This (believe it or not) returns you to the menu above. 3> PLAY GAME - Here, each player selects a club from the list, and then the fun really begins. PLAYING SOME SOCCER You will always begin in the lowest reaches of the non-league. So it will take a bit of work to rise to the dizzy heights of the Premier League! After each player selects their club, you will be shown the fixtures for all 8 divisions! You will then move onto the playing screen. THE PLAYING SCREEN As usual, each player takes it in turn to draw a card, but in LEAGUE SOCCER CARDS, there is now a big exception! In previous Soccer Cards there were only GOAL and NO GOAL cards. Now, other cards have been added to the deck, all of which I will now explain (quantity of cards shown in brackets)... FULL TIME (1) - For better or worse, the match ends. NO GOAL (5) - You missed a chance of scoring a goal. Your opponent now draws a card. GOAL (5) - You've guessed it! You have scored a goal, and you can now run about your room with your arms held aloft!!! After scoring a goal, you select another card. OFF SIDE (3) - If you have just scored a GOAL, and the next card drawn is an OFF SIDE card, your previous goal will now be cancelled! Play returns to your opponent. FOUL (2) - You lose a turn! PLEASE NOTE - The home team will always draw first, and will place their card to the left hand side of the screen. RESULTS AND TABLES When all the games have been played, you will be shown the results from all the divisions. Just like previous versions of SOCCER CARDS, the results of the other games are not purely created out of random. Some teams are stronger than others, though as in the real game, there can still be shock results! After the results, all the league tables will be presented. THE LEAGUE TABLES In League Soccer Cards, 2 points are awarded for each win, with 1 point for a draw. There are 3 options on this screen... 1> SAVE - Select the disk option if you wish to save off and come back later. You have a choice of which drive you wish to save to. ***IMPORTANT NOTE*** PLEASE have a formatted disk ready and inserted into the drive. PLEASE ENSURE THE DISK IS WRITE ENABLED, so the data can be stored to your disk immediately. 2> CONTINUE - If there are further games remaining, you are shown the next set of fixtures to play. If the season has come to an end (10 GAMES played), selecting this option takes you to the End Of Season screen . 3> QUIT GAME - Quits the game, returning you to the Amiga DOS screen. END OF SEASON All the 'Ups and Downs' are shown here, along with any sackings or congratulations that may be in order. If all is well, you begin the next season - if not, it could be GAME OVER! I have now included the SAVE/CONTINUE/QUIT GAME options to this screen. TIT BITS!
