As the program is only small, it has been included with Emotional Conflict. An Introduction? Go on then... -------------------------------- Welcome to X-Password. This program should be used at your own risk. I take no responsability in any damage or loss of files to your HD/Floppy. This program is designed to keep snooping eyes away from private files, such as letters, programs or anything like that. A brief description on how it works? Okay, you copy the file 'X-Password' to either your floppy disk or hard disk, the file is about 78K in size. That's the only file you need, no other libraries, extensions or data files are required. Now you edit your startup-sequence in the S: of your HD or floppy and at the top of the file, you enter the filename 'X-Password'. Now you reboot your system (making sure you save the updated startup-sequence), and watch. See, the startup-sequence will firstly call the X-Password program, meaning, to get any further into your system, you will have to exit the X-Password program first and the only way you can do that is to enter the password. Got me? Then if incorrect, the system will crash, preventing the continuation of floppy or HD, if correct, the program will exit, letting the startup-sequence continue as normal. X-Password V3.5 Shareware documentation ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ By Asa Margetts Firstrate Effex ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Installation: --------------- Okay, the installation of this program is simple. Firstly, you will have to copy the file X-Password program to either hard disk or floppy, your choice. The program takes up about 78K. You can copy this program either through a file management program or through CLI, ie.: Copy "Total Species:Utilities/X-PasswordV3.5/X-Password" To "(Destination):" or you can simply drag the X-Password icon from this disk to your destination disk. Now you have to edit the startup-sequence of the disk you just copied X-Password too, you can do this through any good text editor, or use CLI again ie.: Ed "(Name of your disk):S/Startup-sequence" At the top of the file, enter the name 'X-Password', save the file and reboot your machine to test if everything works okay. X-Password itself ----------- ------- Okay, when you run X-Password, you will firstly be prompted to enter a username. This can NOT be changed. Enter the username as 'Manager'. Now you will be prompted to enter a password. You get three chances to enter this correctly. It is a nine letter password and you don't have to press enter at the end of it. If you get the password wrong three times, the system will crash and you will have to reboot and retry. The password for this also CAN NOT be changed as this has been disabled due to this program being Shareware. The password for this version is 'shareware' no capitals! Recap on that: Username: Manager or manager Password: shareware After entering this, you get a choice of three options. Select with the mouse. Either 'OK' to exit out of the program, continuing your startup-sequence, 'Help' for online help or 'Options' which gives you a list of options allowing you to configure X-Password how you wish. All the options work apart from 'Change Password'. If you register, I will send a working copy of this. Registering: =========== Quite easy. The registered version also contains a Hard/Floppy disk installation program to save you time. --------------------------------------- You may have noticed other versions of X-Password in PD. This version is an update with various bugs removed, a new interface and menu and generally smoother. It is still shareware. This program will work on all Amigas with 512K or more.
