Wordfinder-Professional is a utility to help the crossword enthusiast find solutions to their crosswords! * It has 3 methods of finding words. * Comes complete with Dictionary of over 58,000 words. * Can be installed on hard disk. * Dictionary is expandable by the user, limited only by disk space. * Word list can be printed out. * Special FX can be turned ON or OFF. * Can Multi Task ( Memory Permitting). * Mouse or Keyboard input. * Built in HELP feature. Upon Loading WordFinder Professional will show its screen with 12 icons, which can be selected with the mouse or Function Keys. **************************************************************************** * * * Quit Multi-Task * * * * * * Ordinary Search Anagram Search Word Search * * * * Arrow Left/Right Screen Output Pause Output * * * * Prog Info Printer Add Word * * * * FX ON/OFF Disc Info Help * * * **************************************************************************** Quit. < ESC > Select to QUIT PROGRAM. Multi-Task. Select with left mouse button or Left-Amiga-A to multi task.(Memory Permitting). To return use Left-Amiga-A Key Combination. Ordinary Search. < F1 > Enter the known letters of the word to be found with the missing letters entered with the spacebar. e.g. Entering M G will be shown on screen as *M*G*. i.e spaces being replaced with a wildcard (*). A search will now be made of the dictionary for all possible matches. Anagram Search. < F2 > Enter letters to find words that are anagrams of the letters entered. This option WILL NOT accept wildcard (spacebar) entry. e.g. Entering TEA may find ATE, ETA and TEA ! Word Search. < F3 > This option will find words from within a Word/Phrase/String of letters, up to a maximum of 22 characters long. This option can take some time depending upon the amount of letters entered. Can be useful for entering those competitions that ask you to find as many words as possible from a given phrase. Does not accept wildcard ! AT ANY TIME THE SEARCH CAN BE ABORTED BY PRESSING THE RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON OR THE ESCAPE KEY. THE WORDS FOUND SO FAR WILL BE SHOWN IN THE OUTPUT WINDOW. When requested to input letters, pressing the up-arrow key will recall the last sequence of letters inputed. Arrow Keys. When selected via left mouse button or from keyboard will page forward/backward one page at a time. (Only active when list exceeds one page) Screen Output. < F4 > Select this option to have the word list outputed to the screen continuously. Screen Paused. < F5 > Select this option to have the word list stop when a page has been filled. (an option will be given to continue or abort) Prog. Info. < F6 > Select this to show info about distributor and programmer. Printer. < F7 > This option can be selected once a list of words has been found. Uses the printer set from Prefs. Please set left margin to 1 and right margin to 80 to ensure that 4 words are printed per line. This is to save on paper! Word Add. < F8 > Selecting this will rapidly search the dictionary for the word entered and if it does not exist an option will be given to add it. FX ON/OFF. < F9 > Select this to toggle FX on or off. Disc Info. < F10 > Selecting this will count the words in the dictionary and give the amount of free disc space available. HELP. < HELP > Select this to give brief help within the program. Press help or click icon with left Mouse Button again to quit help feature. HARD DISK INSTALLATION. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To install Wordfinder-Professional onto a hard disk all you need to do is to copy WordfinderProfessional program anywhere in your Hard Drive, then copy the contents of WFDict: to a drawer named WFDict. Ammend your startup-sequence to include the assign:- Assign WFDict: DH0:WFDict where WFDict is the drawer on your hard disk containing the dictionary files. Reboot and thats it. The Dictionary. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The dictionary contains over 58,000 words and as far as I know does not contain any duplications. If you are using this program from floppy disk then I estimate that you should be able to increase the size of the dictionary to approximately 100,000 words. If operating from a hard disk then the dictionary is limited only by your hard disk size. I accept no responsibility for the correctness of the words contained in this dictionary, but to the best of my knowledge it has been checked thoroughly. The contents may contain abbreviations,proper names,words that start with a Capital letter etc., it is up to you to select the appropriate word for the job in hand.
