READER WARRANT Name: Bernard Cain Address: 5, Constance Road, Bolton, Lancs, BL3 4DH Language used: Amos Pro Name of utility: Lottery League V2 Usage: Syndicate Manager Description: This is a National Lottery Syndicate Manager. It is not a predictor, but as its name implies, helps managers to run their syndicates more efficiently. It has many functions, too many to list here, but is quite comprehensive in its range of facilties. A similar program for the PC costs £20. This program existed before the PC version and I just wonder from where they got the idea, makes ya think dunnit ? Anyway Lottery League V2 is now public domain, but was originally licenceware. I may be wrong, but as far as I know this kind of program is unique on the Amiga, and I state again is NOT a lottery predictor and should be potentially more useful. I would like to say the program is the full version and is continually being developed. I have other ideas, which are yet to be implemented, but I will forward any future versions if any to Amiga Format for inclusion on the CD. Just one more point, the Lottery Readme has extra doc files within it such as Lottery Summary, Quickstart Guide, Checklist, and Managing a Syndicate, together with print options. No printer drivers are required so these docs can be printed from within Lottery Readme without further ado. PLACE IN THE ROOT DIRECTORY. DO NOT REMOVE ANY PROGRAMS FROM THIS DIRECTORY TO PLACE IN THE ROOT DIRECTORY OR OTHER DIRECTORY This could cause path assignment problems if you are saving data to Hard Disk and your data could end up in the wrong directory altogether and not be accessible to LOTTERY LEAGUE. This caveat does not apply when using a LOT-DATA disk and I recommend you use one at all times ( see notes later ). ALSO:- If using a LOT-DATA disk, always make sure it is in the external drive ( or any drive if using Lottery League from Hard Disk ) BEFORE running any program. Do not save data to the LOTTERY LEAGUE disk, as there is not enough room. Doing so could cause data corruption if the disk became full. Keep the LOTTERY LEAGUE disk Write Protected to avoid writing data to it accidentally. ---------------------------------- GENERAL PROGRAM INFO LOTTERY LEAGUE V2 - NATIONAL LOTTERY SYNDICATE MANAGER - The Choice for Syndicates Workbench 2 or higher, 1 Meg RAM (Minimum) External floppy or hard drive. A printer is recommended. --------------------------------------- PROGRAM DETAILS This Program is tailored specifically for syndicate use and is meant both as a specialised database and analyser.Numbers are chosen by clicking on a ticket board with the mouse pointer, they will then be highlighted in black. You can enter numbers on up to 12 lottery tickets per Lottery Draw which is a maximum stake of £84 per draw. I'm sure you will agree this is more than enough for most people and should be adequate for most syndicates. All latest tickets are checked automatically when entering winning numbers and any numbers matching these will be shown instantly. The Database holds up to 52 Lottery Draws then a new directory is created to hold another 52 draws and so on. You should save data to a disk named LOT-DATA (see notes on this) even if using a Hard Drive. There is not enough room on the LOTTERY LEAGUE disk for saving data SO DON'T ATTEMPT IT !. You can print data, and a host of other facilities is provided, so take time to read these notes. Operation has been made as intuitive as possible, but some functions are only explained fully here. Each program can have other sub programs contained within it. The main programs on Workbench are:- 1. LOTTERY README contains:- SUMMARY & QUICKSTART ( List of features plus Quickstart Guide ) CHECKLIST ( The important bits to remember ) LOTTERY LEAGUE DOCS ( This document ) SYNDICATE MANAGEMENT ( Hints & Tips ) 2. LOTTERY LEAGUE contains:- FILL IN LOTTERY TICKETS ENTER or CHECK WINNING NUMBERS DUPLICATE TICKETS 3. LOTTERY BASE contains:- FIND TICKETS EDIT " ADD " DELETE " PRINT " CORRECT/ADD WINNING & BONUS NUMBERS EDIT CODES ON TICKETS VIEW CODE LIST 4. PRINT EXTRA Prints matching Ticket Entries 5. ERASE FILES Erases tickets, winnings, and deductions data 6. MEMBERS RECORDS contains:- SETUP CODES & NAMES (Important! read this section) EDIT " " ADD " " MEMBERS PAYMENT RECORDS MEMBERS START DATES ENTER LEAVING MEMBERS VIEW/ " " SYNDICATE NAME & DETAILS 7. SEPARATE ENTRIES contains:- WINNING NUMBER ENTRIES/WEEKLY LIST OCCURRENCE CHART PRINT OPTIONS 8. DATE CHECK Shows the date ranges within each directory. Full explanations of these programs are now given below. ---------------------------------------------------------------- LOTTERY LEAGUE Please note:- In this program new directories are created each time one becomes full, and is mainly used for inputting ticket data and winning numbers into the latest directory. If you wish to access earlier or latest directories to view / edit / print data etc then use the LOTTERY BASE program q.v. Firstly you will be presented with a menu from which you can choose the following:- 1. FILL IN YOUR LOTTERY TICKETS 2. ENTER and/or CHECK WINNING NUMBERS 3. DUPLICATE LAST ENTRIES 1. FILL IN YOUR LOTTERY TICKETS Here you must give details such as NUMBER OF TICKETS BOUGHT, DATE OF DRAW, and so on. These details are entered via a control panel which is located below the ON SCREEN lottery ticket. To enter your chosen numbers just click on six numbers on the lottery ticket starting in BOARD A. When this is done you can go to BOARD B or change details in BOARD A and so on. VOIDED entries on the REAL ticket can be VOIDED here also.Just click on the relevant VOID box. A diagonal black line will appear in that box to signify those entries have been cancelled. If any wrong numbers have been entered then click on the CLEAR box and enter them again. An EXIT button is provided, but if you have made any entries you will be cautioned. These entries will be lost unless you click on the SAVE button. IMPORTANT --- You should enter ALL YOUR TICKETS for ONE WEEK IN ONE SESSION. You can enter extra tickets later, but only from the LOTTERY BASE program and for the latest week only. You can't enter tickets for previous weeks. When asked by the program how many tickets you have bought, then if you enter a number greater than 1 each completed ticket will be saved to RAM: to save time. They will be saved to disk only when the last ticket has been completed or you exit. If only one ticket is entered this will be saved to disk immediately. You will of course be consulted first. IDENTITY CODES ON TICKET ENTRIES The idea is,suppose you are running a syndicate or members of your family each have an entry on the same ticket and would like a way of knowing which entry belongs to who, then an ID code of FIVE letters or numbers can be attached to each BOARD ENTRY. These codes are linked to members names so that members can be identified at any time. It would be a good idea especially for a syndicate,to give people their personal codes beforehand, ( you can print a list of ALL codes & names) then when the entries are completed to do a print out of latest ticket entries complete with ID codes and pin this on your office or factory notice board for all to see. This will inspire confidence all around for everyone will know where they stand. Before filling in tickets you will be asked if you want to use this function, but only if you have created codes in SETUP CODES q.v. If yes, then after each BOARD entry you will be asked to enter an ID code before proceeding. A list of codes will appear and you will choose a CODE NUMBER from the list. This chosen code will be entered on the latest BOARD and will then be highlighted in yellow in the list so you know which code has already been chosen. You should decline this option if it is not needed. See also SETUP CODES in these notes. See also LOTTERY BASE for editing codes on ticket entries. 2. ENTER and/or CHECK WINNING NUMBERS This is the exciting bit.You must enter latest ticket numbers before using this function, for it only enters or checks winning numbers for the last entries, so make sure your entries are up to date. You can check this easily as the last entry date is given on screen. So then enter the winning numbers and the BONUS number and your latest ticket(s) will be checked automatically, or if you wish you can check them manually yourself. Either way the program will bring you the correct results. 3. DUPLICATE LAST ENTRIES If you use the same ticket entries every week as do some syndicates, this will save the trouble of re-entering them manually each time. You only have to enter the new date and later the winning and bonus numbers when they are due.......HINT --- If you duplicate the last entries, and you find you need to add an extra ticket or edit existing entries, enter the LOTTERY BASE program AFTER duplicating and edit from there. Please note, you can only edit, add or delete tickets for the latest entries. When a directory or disk is full you will be given the option of carrying data forward to the new directory or disk. If you decline this option you will have to input ticket data manually again. --------------------------------------------------------------- LOTTERY BASE This is where you edit/print/view all aspects of your ticket entries. Firstly you will be given a list of directories to choose from. Each directory contains 52 Lottery draws, and if ticket data exists it will be loaded in straightaway and you will be presented with a list of ticket entry dates. Just click on a chosen date and you will enter the database at that chosen point. You will see the date and ticket entries etc.You can browse through the database and see all entries with matching winning numbers displayed and ID codes if entered. You can see a list of ID codes instantly if these exist, so you can interpret your codes at anytime. You can print any weeks entries instantly. You can edit ID codes and tickets or add/delete a ticket but only on the latest entries, and in the latest directory. A special EDIT box will appear when at the latest weeks entries. Editing is quite straight forward and help is given along the way. PLEASE NOTE:- Although you can delete tickets and board entries, there MUST always be a board entry for each existing member in the syndicate so replace them with new data unless these deleted tickets or board entries belong to members who have left the syndicate. If using the Duplicate Tickets function in Lottery League, remember to clear board entries here which belong to leaving members as ticket data is not updated automatically. If you have not entered members in SETUP CODES program, this message does not apply. ------------------------------------------------------------------ PRINT EXTRA This prints out tickets as mentioned earlier, but instead of printing straight forward ticket entries, it only prints ticket numbers which match winning or bonus numbers .For a syndicate this can be very useful, for now you can print out ticket entries before the lottery draw, and later to print out the results of those ticket entries. Winning numbers must have been entered in Lottery League for the relevant draw or no print out for that draw will be possible. If ID Codes have been entered they will be printed also. Just make sure your printer is on and online before clicking on a ticket date. You will be given a list of directories to print from. Click on a directory of your choice. Each directory represents 52 Lottery draws. ------------------------------------------------------------------ ERASE FILES This will erase ALL ticket data from the latest created directory only, except for the LATEST ENTRIES. This means users of the DUPLICATE TICKETS function can continue without entering data manually again. ERASE ALL DATA by running the program again immediately. Earlier directories cannot be erased. If you have entered leaving members then these will be restored back to the members list, unless of course they have been replaced by new members. Leaving member lists if they exist will be erased from disk ( See ENTER LEAVING MEMBERS below ). Normally, you shouldn't have to use this program, but it is provided in case you need to start again from scratch in the latest directory at an early stage so you can re-enter any erroneous data. It may be better however to keep regular backup copies of your data disks. ------------------------------------------------------------------- MEMBERS RECORDS 1. SETUP CODES FOR TICKETS The codes and names you enter here will be used in the MEMBERS PAYMENT section, described below and on your ticket entries also. If you wish to use ID codes on your tickets you MUST set them up here first of all. You can Enter / Edit /Print codes here and also print a GROUP AGREEMENT FORM with all members names printed on it. It only remains for each member to sign the form and for it to be legally verified. You can also print payment forms for recording weekly ticket stakes. There is one for Managers use and one for Members use. More explanation is found in SETUP CODES program. If you enter 2 or more Members with the same name e.g. JOHN SMITH then change them so they are slightly different from one another such as JOHN SMITH1, JOHN SMITH2 etc. All members are considered as being 'active',unless they are marked as 'GONE' (see below) which means they are all considered as paying ticket stakes each week as well as being entered on tickets and sharing in any winnings. This being so, you should always put EVERY active member on a ticket entry, and not just use a selection of members, leaving the rest in limbo so to speak. As well as codes and names you can also enter start entry dates for members, and you are recommended to do so but these entry dates will only be displayed in the MEMBERS PAYMENT section below, but you can instantly view or print them. Operation of the SETUP CODES program is quite straight forward and you are prompted along the way. If a member leaves the syndicate (See ENTER LEAVING MEMBERS below ) this will have the effect of marking the leaving member as 'GONE' so the member will be listed in a different colour, but more importantly it will reduce number of members in syndicate and other vital changes which will instruct other programs of this 'GONE' entry. You MUST adhere to this routine when any member leaves. Study the Checklist also, this will inform you in which order important entries like this should be undertaken. Any new members should be entered into these 'GONE' members places in the EDIT CODES section of the SETUP CODES program. When a directory is full, all Codes and Members Records ( see below ) etc will be transferred automatically to the new directory (or disk). Please Note, you can only enter the latest created directory to enter codes etc. 2. MEMBERS PAYMENT RECORDS After entering codes etc in SETUP CODES this will keep a record of members paid and unpaid. If any member does not pay their ticket stake for a Lottery draw you will have to decide whether their ticket numbers will still be entered, in which case the other members should agree to pay this ticket stake between them, if not you will have to void the entry on the actual ticket (this presumes you are using same ticket entries every week) which means this ticket or tickets will have to be filled in afresh for the next Lottery draw. The syndicate should make a decision on this matter from the beginning. If other members do pay this stake between them you should still mark the entry as UNPAID, this will ensure this member is not included in a share out for any wins made on this date. If all members pay their ticket stake regularly and there is no entry of new members then you can ignore this program as it will keep records automatically for all weeks that ticket data has been entered. If new members join the syndicate then these must be entered in SETUP CODES program first,as must any changes to existing members. If any member is marked as 'GONE' meaning a member has left and not been replaced (in SETUP CODES), then they will not be editable as PAID or UNPAID and the PAID/UNPAID facility will be blanked off until a new name is entered as a replacement. This will also cause the leaving member's name to be highlighted in a different colour. Please note, if a present member leaves the syndicate and his/her name is deleted and replaced with a new members name then the new members name will be shown in all the weeks prior to the name change hence the need to keep a list of members start dates. There is a limit of 84 members in the members list. If you have 84 members in the list and you wish to add a new members name, then you must delete an existing member in the list to make room for the new member. A useful facility is provided for when a new member joins. They can be made UNPAID from the start of records in the latest directory up to the joining date, or a week before to be precise. The first PAID date will be the one in which they are eligible to share in winnings. Just click on UNPAID TO DATE box and then on the new members name. After this you must SAVE to disk or this data will be lost. Any updates performed in LOTTERY LEAGUE (after 52 draws) or ERASE FILES program will be reflected here, and will affect number of weeks data that is available. Operation is explained within the program. Before entering the program, you will be given a list of existing directories to choose from. If you are editing data, this can only be done in the latest directory. 3. SYNDICATE DETAILS This program simply gives you the option of holding the name and other details of the syndicate. You don't have to enter details here for your syndicate but if you are running multiple syndicates it may help to prompt you so you don't confuse them. Among details which can be entered are start date of syndicate and Managers name etc, useful if you are handling third party syndicates. Run this program to enter, view, or change details. One function is automatic in this program, and this is the number of active members will be updated continually so you don't need to change this when a member leaves the syndicate for example or when you enter new members. YOU CAN ONLY CHANGE SYNDICATE DETAILS IN THE LATEST DIRECTORY AND NOT IN EARLIER ONES. When a directory is full the syndicate details will be copied to new directory or disk, so you dont need to keep changing them each time a directory is created. 4. ENTER / VIEW LEAVING MEMBERS When you enter a leaving member or members and save the details to disk, then you render these members inactive which means you will not be able to enter them on tickets or edit their payment records or in fact do anything at all except view and print them until you enter a new member to replace them in the EDIT section of the SETUP CODES program. You can of course erase any reference to ALL leaving members by installing the Default Members List. Doing so will return all leaving members to an active status. You can then enter them on tickets and edit their payment records again. The existing leaving member list is erased from disk. When you come to view leaving members they will be displayed with an entry date ( if you entered one ) together with a leaving date. You have an option to print these details if required. Please note you cannot enter ALL members in syndicate as leaving. There must always be at least one member left otherwise the syndicate is as good as closed. Use DELETE CODES in SETUP CODES section if you wish to destroy all codes data. If you erase codes and names in any other program other than the SETUP CODES program the default members list will replace the current one containing leaving members. In this case ALL members will again be active and the leaving members list is also erased. The DELETE CODES function in the SETUP CODES program deletes ALL codes and names plus the default list and leaving members list from disk, which means you will have to re-enter all codes etc from scratch. When a new directory is created the leaving members list is carried forward into it. You cannot edit the leaving members list as such. It is only meant as a memo on past members. ----------------------------------------------------------------- SEPARATE ENTRIES This allows you to enter WINNING and BONUS numbers at any time, and independently of LOTTERY LEAGUE. This means you can enter any amount of past and present data up to a total of 52 DRAWS without entering lottery tickets, then a new directory will be created to hold another 52 DRAWS data and so on. You can only enter or erase data in the latest created directory, otherwise you have full access to earlier directories. Also featured are - OCCURRENCE CHART - WEEKLY LIST. PLEASE NOTE these numbers are separate in their entirety from those entered in LOTTERY LEAGUE and are contained in separate directories from your ticket entries, so you should enter them here without fearing the two will conflict. Unless you are entering data, directories are displayed before you enter the program. Click on a directory to enter it. If you decide to keep records of winning numbers and don't buy lottery tickets regularly, your Separate Entries directories would fill up quicker than the ticket directories, therefore there is a limit of 5 separate entry directories per disk. This ensures that if you buy lottery tickets regularly and keep separate entries regularly also, your disk will be able to hold all of the data. ( see LOT-DATA disk, below ). If you are saving data to hard disk, then a limit of 50 directories is imposed. ---------------------------------------------------------------- DATE CHECK As your directories increase and you want to find a specific entry date, then this program will show the date ranges for each directory created. This includes both the SEPARATE ENTRIES and LOT-DATA directories. You can choose either to look at one directory at a time or bring up the date ranges in all directories. If you choose the latter option, then after a disk search, full lists will be shown on screen. These can be printed if desired. ---------------------------------------------------------------- SOME IMPORTANT INFO ( Please read this ) THE LOT-DATA DISK You should save all data to a disk named LOT-DATA as there is not enough room on the LOTTERY LEAGUE disk for saving data. You must name it exactly as written here. No other name will be recognised by the program. You are recommended to save to a LOT-DATA disk, even when using a Hard Disk. This allows you to run as many syndicates as you like, each syndicate using its own LOT-DATA disk. If you decide to save data to Hard Disk you can have up to 50 directories but you can only handle one syndicate. When entering details on more than one syndicate disk, exit back to Workbench from programs before trying to load new data from a fresh disk, otherwise 'old data' from a previous disk may be remembered. Exit from each program as advised and all 'old data' will be erased from memory. You can then load in data from a fresh disk in confidence. Please note that the disk LOT-DATA will have priority over the LOTTERY LEAGUE or Hard Disk in respect of loading and saving data. The LOT-DATA disk is meant for use with an EXTERNAL disk drive, or any drive if Lottery League is installed to Hard Disk. Your LOT-DATA disk should be in the drive by the time these notes end.So if you are reading these notes for the first time, then when you EXIT from this program, prepare a LOT-DATA disk if this is your intention. When the database is full (after 52 Lottery Draws) a new directory will be created automatically. A LOT-DATA disk can hold five of these directories, which means up to five years data on one disk. If you are using the DUPLICATE TICKETS function then ticket data will be carried forward to this new directory as normal. When the LOT-DATA disk is full, data will be carried forward to the new disk too if you wish. You must choose the DUPLICATE TICKETS function to carry ticket data to new directory or disk. Other useful data such as Codes Data or Members Data etc will be carried forward always so don't be concerned about this. When a new disk is required it must be called LOT-DATA and must be ready formatted. Try to have one ready when you think the data disk is nearly full.A new screen will appear when a directory or disk is full and you will be told what action to take as appropriate. If you have Workbench 2 or above you can format the LOT-DATA disk to the Fast File System (FFS). This cuts loading and saving times by half and is strongly recommended. HARD DISK INSTALLATION YOU ARE RECOMMENDED TO SAVE DATA TO A LOT-DATA DISK ( See above ) You can install to Hard Disk, but be careful how you copy over the LOTFONT.font. You must retain the upper case letters as written here, the LOTFONT directory must also be in upper case, see fonts directory on LOTTERY LEAGUE disk for example. If you use a file utility such as SID or Directory Opus to copy over the files there will be no problem, but if you use the Amigados COPY and MAKEDIR commands you must ensure that you type Copy LOTFONT.font and Makedir LOTFONT for example. Typing them any other way will cause LOTTERY LEAGUE programs to halt and not be executed.Read your Workbench manual if you are unfamiliar with these commands. Sorry about this kludge but it is a small one and of no further bother once done. Do it properly and the LOTFONT font will be found and loaded from your Hard Disk's fonts directory no matter how many fonts are in there. Other system files you MUST have available are Amos library, and the Parallel Device. All these can be found on the Lottery League disk. Just copy them to respective drawers on your Hard Disk as required. See also UPDATE to FULL VERSION in Lottery Summary on menu. FINALLY...... Phew! at last. These docs make the programs look complicated, but I assure you this is not so true in practice, all the hard work is done behind the scenes, but you will better understand what the programs are trying to do if you study these docs, and make use of the Checklist provided. I have tried to make LOTTERY LEAGUE as intuitive and easy to use as possible without sacrificing functionality. Pop up windows will keep you informed as you go along, but first try the programs WITHOUT SAVING any data to disk and you will soon get the feel of them. After this, do a few test runs using a LOT-DATA disk as if for real. You can always re-format it when you are confident you are doing things correctly. If you can use a mouse and type in simple details you can use LOTTERY LEAGUE. --------------------- Lottery League is under continual development. The author reserves the right to change, improve, amend or remove any program or part of a program without retaining compatibility with earlier versions, although this will be done where it is reasonable and feasable to do so.
