DiskMagEd © Cool-G ¨ DiskMagEd TutorialGeert Coelmont~2CLM~LN09~JUST ~BIG1G diskmag editor tutorial G Welcome to the very first ~BOLD~COL2DiskMag Editor~BOLD~COL1 in the history of the AMIGA. A brandnew concept that allows you to write articles for our diskmagazine in a very professional way. Create your own layout, include colors, effects, formatting etc. Finally you will be ~BOLDsure~BOLD about the look of your article, and ofcourse for us it's a lot ~BOLDeasier~BOLD because we don't have to retype everything ! Simply post your article on any of our BBS'es or thru conventional mail, and we will include it in the next edition of our Diskmagazine. This small ~COL4example article~COL1 should introduce you to the capabilities of this editor. Go ahead and play with it, and watch the result in the WYS/WYG part ~BOLD(press ESC to toggle between EDITOR and WYS/WYG)~BOLD Text is entered as in a normal editor, but special formatting commands can be used to make your article come to ~COL5life~COL1. A command is built up by a 'tilde' (~~) and 4 chars (for exampe: ~~BOLD, ~~COL2...). For a quick overview of the functions, press ~COL2HELP~COL1. Pressing ~COL3F1~COL1 will bring you to the ~UNDLfilemenu~UNDL. Here you can load and save articles, and ofcouse import and process ASCII files, so you can type articles in your ~COL2favorite editor~COL1, and add styles and formatting later, in this editor. ~BIG1special functions... As you can see it is very easy to add ~COL5color~COL1 to your article. Alltogether there are ~COL2six~COL1 colors available. (maybe more in later versions) ~CNTRAlso it is very easy to change the formatting of the text. This example paragraph is ~COL2centered~COL1, as you can see here. ~LEFTAlways remember that you can't switch to another formatting in the middle of a line of text: it will only take effect from the NEXT line. Better stick to one formatting within one paragraph. (by the way, this bit is ~COL3left aligned~COL1). ~JUSTOther nice touches are ~UNDLunderline~UNDL and ~BOLDbold~BOLD typeface. The command ~~BOLD will start the bold part. Another ~~BOLD will turn it back off (see HELP-pages). You can also combine them, or put color on it: ~COL4~BOLD~UNDLnice eh?~BOLD~UNDL~COL1 Using the ~~SKIP command, you can force a break in the text-flow and skip to the next column (as demonstrated here) ~SKIP In this version of the Diskmag Editor, you can use ~UNDLthree~UNDL ~COL3fonts~COL1: One small font (this one), and 2 BIG fonts, for titles etc. Again, you can't (currently) switch fonts within a line of text, so the font will only appear from the ~BOLDnext~BOLD line of text. Also, because BIG fonts are only used as titles, they will be ~BOLDdisabled at the end of the line~BOLD. If you want more lines of BIG text, you will have to turn it on again on each line.Type BIG text in Lower Case only; Upper Case chars 'A' to 'H' are used to display special characters. ~BIG2 ABCDEFGH Furthermore, you can choose how many columns you want in your article. You can choose between 1, 2 or 3 columns (~~1CLM, ~~2CLM, ~~3CLM). However, these commands are only accepted at the very top of your article, and you can't switch within an article. By default, 2 columns are used (like in this article). ~BIG1saving and loading It is ofcourse possible to load and save articles. Articles are stored in a ~UNDLspecial format~UNDL, together with other information, like the title of the article and the name of the author. These data will be used in the final magazine: they will ~COL5auto~BOLDmagic~BOLDally~COL1 show up in the table of contents and at the top of your article when it is selected... You can also load a previously saved article, if you want to change something, or simply if you didn't finish it in 1 time. Ofcourse, when our crew will assemble the disk magazine, all articles will be protected by some kind of ~COL3nasty~COL1 algorythm, so the editor can't read it anymore and noone can change other people's articles afterwards. ~BIG1more cool tricks... The FileMenu (F1,remember?) holds some more funktions to please the professional writer... ~COL2F5~COL1 is useful if you wrote a text using CygnusEd (for example) and typed RETURN (=enter) at the end of each line. In this editor there's no need for all these RETURNs, so I included this option to cut them out. ~BIG1H multitasking H I hope you realised that the Amiga is a multitasking machine. To make some benefit of that, I decided to keep this program ~COL2system friendly~COL1. It is fully MultiTasking ! No boring music: now you can run your favorite sound player in the background and choose your own tune. Ofcourse it is no prob to crunch some huge files or copy disks, or even ~COL3download files~COL1 while the DiskMagEd is running... You can switch to workbench using the fileMenu-item '~COL5Go to Sleep~COL1'. From v1.3 on you can start from WB too (sorry for the bug!) ~BIG1final notes... Well that's it, I sincerely hope you guys like this new invention, and start typing rightaway. The first edition of our diskmag will be released in march 1993, and ofcourse ~COL2everything depends on ~UNDLyou~UNDL~COL1. The more you write, the more we can publish. Ofcourse we will have to keep an eye on the global ~COL5quality~COL1 of the articles, so make sure your articles are worth reading or they'll be refused ! One of next versions will support clipart in 16 colors, 64 lo-res pixels wide, so you gfx-wizards can start drawing !!
