2 5 88c 849 386 ÉÌ NIRVANA - THE GREAT PRETENDERS Ê------------------------------------ ÉËByÈ Axworthy/Estetic ÈForget what you have heard about Nirvana and their inauguration of a new musical genre. In this article ÌRAWË reveals the truth about the guys from Seattle.. ÉNirvana live.. È wouldn't that be a great experience? Dave Grohl crushing his drumset, Cobain swinging his guitar - yelling rough, unveiled lyrics in his peculiar "I don't bother" way. Or perhaps you are the lucky one who have already been attending the event of the year.. I am so sorry. É You will never live to see Nirvana live..È But at least you will get that breath-taking scene show and frenzy atmosphere going to one of their concerts - and that is not bad, isn't it? Not at all. In fact, it is very amusing watching Kurt Cobain doing his solos. He seems so deeply concentrated, treating the guitar like he is doing it for the very first time - very impressive indeed. But you wouldn't care if suddenly the lead-guitar dropped to the floor, would you? Of course not - the show must go on! You would still get that intense piece of improvisation while Cobain straps the guitar over his shoulder and gets to his feet. (If you are one of those smart guys wondering how this could happen on aÉ LIVEÈ concert, then you are most likely to get the job as a music-detective in Ford Fairlane II..) After a similar incident on a 'live' concert some people began to question if Nirvana really knew the rules of the game. In an interview with Guitarplayer Cobain admits that he didn't play live: "I mix most of my solos in studio, and I am too lazy to learn to play them. I don't think I will ever be able to play 'Breed'.." According to Cobain, "only the lead-guitar would need playback - the rest of Nirvana are able to play live on concerts.." The album 'Nevermind' contains many simple songs which are easily played by novice guitarplayers. But when it comes to tracks like 'Breed' and 'Teenage Spirits' you get some sort of unreal, 'impossible' solo techniques which cannot be copied. It is Éunsporting È to arrange such pieces in studio - Cobain's synthetic solos places him among the best guitarists in the world, but he is É not able play his own songs! ÈWow! He is a genius - he has broken the limit of impossibility! Well, at least he tried - until the truth surprised him.. ÊMorale:È play fair, be honest.. (If you do not, make people BELIEVE you!) ÿ
